got myself a suit which surprisingly fitted me like a glove from G2000. Since this is my first suit, have a few things that i might need to ask about.

from the pic below, you can see that theres a 'vent' or gap on both sides of the rear end. at the moment it is sewn together lightly by a piece of thread. should i break this thread or leave it as it is?

I'm planning to get just the shirt. I came across a burberry shirt in 1 of the store and the design was to my liking but the it has a price tag of over RM1k so I'm wondering if a tailor could bespoke a shirt similar to it and I'm sure it would be at a much lower cost?

Ohh.... workmanship for a shirt? Er.. my tailro charges RM200~... inclusive of MOP buttons and collar bone.

If u are using their material.. then extra 50~150RM depending on material... ofcourse if you go for really expensive mat it can go upto 1K (like linen shirt from Granoff in Gardens).

thanks guys,

which leads to the next question, will or will it not go well with a dark colored plain jeans for a casual company dinner with no dress code..dont wanna look like a kid who cant make up his mind..was initially planning to go with the jeans, a pair of dress shoes and a fitting tshirt inside.

But if im feeling unconfident with the look, i might actually opt for the dress shirt and full suit look which if possible, i would like to avoid due to it being too formal for the event..

Where is ur tailor located? I'm planning to go to bespoked at 1utama to have it check out and get a quotation from them. What do u think about the tailor at bespoked and how does it stand with ur tailor? Besides that wat is the difference between the linen shirt from Granof with the rest?

In my opinion i would go with a fitting long sleeve shirt and a tie with black slacks but since u ald bought ur suit, u might as well go with a full suit and if ur feeling it to be too formal, lose the tie. Besides that, since ur suit is black, i would personally opt for a black or very dark brown dress shoe..

Don't wear a T shirt inside. At least a shirt. A more casual choice would be an oxford shirt. And jeans imo should be lighter in colour so there is some contrast with the jacket. Not that dark jeans won't work, just the safer choice.

I guess ill jz go in full suit then..with a shirt inside..so that leaves me with a proper dress shoes to wear..need to mix and match and see what works..getting a bit frustraing already with alot of diffrrent websites saying different things..

Will a shirt tucked into jeans look work with a suit?i was wondering if i were to wear a shirt, then ill consider wearing a full suit without the tie. But if i wear a tshirt inside, then ill go with the jeans..still confused at the moment..

1. Wardrobe, Bangsar branch
2. Bespoke is decent, a bit on the pricey side but nothing that will kill u
3. Bespoke also can come out with decent result with minimal input from buyer
4. Granoff is abit too pricey for my taste.

i hope someone can reply, i have read somewhere in the thread the weight of our choosen materials should be above 300 gms; but I asked the seller he recommend something around 250 gm for our climate. not sure whether this 100% wool worsted fabric is ok. i know many recommend mohair+wool just could not afford at the moment

how about this?

Hi there, do you guys think it will be a smart idea if I take my dad's suit which is waay oversized for me and tailor it? Its quite a nice piece of double breasted navy suit and he got it done at about 1k maybe about a decade back? Were fabrics cheaper last time? If its possible for you guys, estimate what would be the value of the suit right now? biggrin.gif

Yall' would probably tell me to decide myself on weather i should or should not tailor the suit but there is one thing, im only 17 and im afraid what if, what if growth decides to be an ******* and maybe start growing again after I got the suit altered? Is it possible to 'un-alter' the suit?
Thank you!

I doubt you could carry the DB, that is even if you manage to alter it to the right size.

The jacket is obviously too large for you. Taking in the chest and waist may still be possible but reducing the shoulder width is very risky, it may even ruin the whole piece.

Even if a master alterations tailor manages to do the job, do you think you can carry the look? I seriously doubt so.

Its not easy to get away with a DB i suppose... usualyl its much more formal etc... I cant access yoru photo.. will look at it later.

at 17, you should try a fitting SB 1~2 button. Or perhaps a sports jacket.
