QUOTE(Thumpy Ick @ Apr 1 2010, 10:04 AM)
almun didnt mengelamun today... those saves against pedro and messi were top draw! those 2 ibrahim goals, i think it's down to song's inexperience as a CB. he's too used to playing DM he's forgotten how it is to play at CB. i'm quite perplexed as to why denilson is brought on to replace gallas, cuz naturally campbell would be the choice.

bendtner had a good game, having an assist and arguably assisting the penalty for fabregas too, it was a good cushioned header. he shouldve scored with his thundering header in the 2nd half, too bad he directed it towards valdez. either way to his side and we would've had a 3-2 victory. not too shabby indeed.

barcelona, despite their superior possession i thought never actually looked deadly up front. only on those occasions on the first half they looked like a team ready to kill us, but almunia was surprisingly up to the task. they didn't look that razor sharp in the 2nd half, despite the 2 goals.

when walcott came in we changed, i thought we looked fresh. i guess walcott offered that extra dimension in raw pace down the right wing, and suddenly we looked dangerous. valdez couldve done better with that, but i'm sorry valdez, no. 14's undone you.

something that i thought i would never say, but today almunia > valdez. like, woah!
*
yeah almunia did well, our problem last night was the defence, when Gallas take off the pitch, Song's replace him at CB, the main prob is Vermaelen used t play as RCB(right centre back) and gallas as LCB(left centre back), when song step up as CB, he played as RCB which is the main role for vermaelen, the second goal was obviously seen that vermaelen was misjudge who is suppose to be marked by him, then he let go Ibra for the second goal and it's great finished by him, no pressure.

shithead column from Palmer again. had it been MU, then it'll be show of strength and determination. but noooooo arsenal relied on the ref, who btw didn't really call a good game for us.

undeserved? totally deserving! we soaked up the pressure... we stand tall agaisnt the attacks... we tried our best going forward. undeserved my foot la!  vmad.gif

what a amazing come back! notworthy.gif

My personal review is:-

Almunia - Good performance for 1st half and already meet my expectation even though concede 2 goals in 2nd half. My personal opinion is that he shouldn't be blame for the 2 goals as it is a clear 1-on-1 opportunity due to our defender can't mark tight on Ibra/ do a wrong offside trap. Hope he can continue his performance for latter games.

Clichy - can see his nervous during 1st half but must give credit to him during 2nd half as he really make few important interceptions to deny the chances from Alves to move further. And so do Messi as well. Can see his untired running towards the end, if compare to Alves that already run out of stem during the end half of game.

TV - should be collectively bear the responsibility for the goal conceded due to fail to make proper offside trap. But overall maintain his standard.

Gallas - a big blow for us as he left us so early. But 1st it's a competitive match from him since his last game on Feb so he has already done his very best to carry out his job. I understand why AW willing to risk him instead of Campell, probably due to his experience and also worry that Campell slow pace can't cope Barca players all the time.

Sagna - not up to par today to be frank. Luckily The Professor noticed it earlier and really do a tactical change to subs him out.

Diaby - another player not on form today. We expect him to use his skills to control the ball calmly but too many times he lose the ball to opponent. An average play i must said.

Song - playing so so during the whole game. 1st half should be the one to intercept Barca fluent passing in the middle but under performance to carry out his DMF duty. 2nd half he should be blamed for his unmark on Ibra twice, but since CB is not his native role so to be fair can't expect he match the defensive ability like TV or Galllas.

Fab - able to withstand the pressure to equalise already let us forget his average performance. 1 thing must compliments him is that before his get injured, you can see his never dying spirit throughout the game, especially that wonderful sliding tackle on Busquets (unfortunate being wrongly booked from referee) that lead a good example to other teammate to give full commitment towards the game, regardless you're playing good or bad.

Arshavin - just play 27 minutes so couldn't really explore his power. Average display.

Bendtner - being mark tight from opponent defenders so not being a real threat but already meet my expectation to help to assist on Walcott's score and also great header pass to Fab that lead to a sent-off from Puyol. He might not be a prolific striker but at least he know how to assist the teammate.

Nasri - by far the most consistent player throughout the match, never has any big mistake, great vision and good passing accuracy. Luckily didn't subs him out as his wonderful skills still a threat to Barca players, can see many times they can't steal the ball from him, a good dribbler as well.

Eboue - not bad for his performance as he can use his dribbling skills to attract opponent players to zone press him, hence give some space to other teammate to move around. Just that his passing accuracy still need to touch up a bit.

Walcott - No need to say more, a wonderful display from him. Looks like he can be a super-subs rather than a starting line-up so that he can use his pace to bypass opponent tired leg during the 3rd quarter of the game. Once he has been subs into the game, we look really differently and obviously Barca players can't match with his pace.

Denilson - most surprisingly, he surpass my expectation and done quiet well after he've come in. Not concede a silly mistake and high passing accuracy.

Yes Barca is dominating us during 1st half (wtf 70% against 30% possession doh.gif ) but you can see that during the 3rd quarter of the match they start to feel tired and exhausted, hence giving more rooms for our players to gain back the possession. Credit to our team spirit and attitude and hopefully they can learn the mistake and start pressuring opponent when referee start to blow the whistle for the 2nd leg. If we can start to intercept and cut off their midfield supply, then perhaps we can have opportunity.

Still a tough match at Nou Camp but please don't give up gunners! win with pride, lose with dignity notworthy.gif

haha, the 1st 10-15 minutes in the match was like a footballing school to us.. i felt sweat.gif sweat.gif sweat.gif the entire 1st half.
Thx goodness we have almunia to save us tongue.gif tongue.gif

and bout the 2nd leg encounter, i hope almunia can replicate his performance like last night (not the ibra's goal blunder) in the
camp nou. If barca can dominate us at our own backyard..there's no telling wat gonna happen at the stadium with 100,000
crowd cheering for em.

I dun understand the part in bold.

& I also dun understand other team's supporters coming into other teams thread giving unwelcomed statements. Stay in Ur threads & nobody will get hurt..

It's great that we made a great comeback & showed heroics & all that.. but at what cost ? & this is just the quarterfinals. Maybe if we can maintain the same heroics & makes it to the finals this year, while losing 2-3 first team players in each game, by the time we get to the finals, we'd be fielding our League Cup team already...

Depth ... we're lacking depth... but oh.. wait... our financials are stable... ok what... Maybe if we have a Champions League trophy for the most financially stable team, we can win that hands down..

then gallas, nvm we got campbell.

sigh, the very least we should have a decent squad to fight till the end of the season
saddening.

i personally feel the team were all nervous, intimidated and pressured last night
thus not enabling us to play our game, however this is credits that i have to give Barcelona, they made it hard and not because we didnt want to play our football, people have to start realizing that when you are not playing well at times.. its not about the team not performing. its most prob the opposition is to good in controlling the game.

the hype from the media and all playing games in players mind. and all the mind games from players and mgrs
expectation is high in last game match.
however as professionals, they shouldn't let this get above them
im pretty sure, the return at nou camp we will play a better game. quite positive
otherwise shame on the team.

If it was a muscular injury he would have been better to come off. He wanted to stay on - maybe he thought he would get another penalty

Typically Arsene... lol

It's just hype really. When teams face Barca they are so afraid of them that they tend to drop too deep and give space for Barca to impose their game.

If you get your tactics right they are beatable even at the Nou Camp. When Madrid played there we did everything right and should have won the game but our finishing let us down so there's no reason why Arsenal need to think this tie is beyond them.

great comeback, barca came strong in the first half and the gunners made it even by scoring 2 in the late second half.
Fab's not playing in the return leg, but then puyol and pique also made themselves not available, not too gloomy at all.

This is what my Manchester United friend said : He's (Fabregas) a good player. Disagrees that he stepped up today as a good captain. He shud know more than that to continue playing. Same goes for Rooney when he played 90 mins against Egypt half fit. You can talk about heart all day, but sometimes you need more common sense than heart when ppl count on you to win the EPL, CL and WC.

"Until the penalty, I was feeling quite good".
- Fabregas, Goal.com

Good player but selfish, Foolish captain.

...What are your thoughts?
