What should I do if my Block Buster Deal 4mbps package is being capped @ 3.4mbps instead of 4mbps?

That is normal for a 4 Meg package.. expect speedtest results of between 3.2 to 3.7 Mbps because of the inherent 10% loss of speeds due to PPPOE connection and the ATM network..

If you want ngam ngam 4 mbps got to ask them to cap your line to 5mbps.. as far as i know they only do that if you have chronic problems with your service... so if you complain only get 3.x they will consider it a non issue....

Another way to get 5mbps is to ask the Streamyx installer nicely to set your cap to 5mbps (like me lol!) when he came to your house to setup. Make sure you have some knowledge about SNR and Line Attenuation as sometimes it's because of your telephone line/wiring/signal problem that made the installer unable to upgrade for you.

You gamer or hardcore downloader?

Gamer => Unifi, 60,80,120 GB per month limit, but good pings and network performance.....

Heavy downloader => Streamyx 4 Meg, no limits, 24/7 downloading -->
1+ TB/month

30 GBs? Up and down in total? In that case, if you don't mind being limited, then go for Unifi...

I chose Streamyx 4 MB because i download all day long everyday...

In terms of network performance or good ping, how did you compare the two? Do they have a better route to USA or simply better overall?

What range for SNR & Line Attenuation recommended to upgrade?
Can SNR (20-26dB) & Line Attenuation (45dB) upgrade to 4mb?

Unifi will have better network performance, in terms of pings and latency....

Only reason i stuck with Streamyx is the uncapped downloads...

I wanted to change to Unifi, but I heard a lot of complaints regarding the stability and etc. Should I just change to Streamyx 4mb? FYI, I'm using the 1mb package right now. Is there any significant difference? What's the minimum torrent speed obtained from the 4mb one?

Let me quote from here:

QUOTE(kkm @ May 29 2010, 02:53 PM)
<To repeat my post from v3, in case the closing means no one saw it>

Just need a quick comment, tech came yesterday and installed a 512kbps line although I applied for 4 mbps (usual TM cock-up!).

Anyway, I asked him to check the line. The modem says SNR is 25db and attenuation is 35db. He is saying the SNR is good, but the attenuation is marginal, that I shouldn't go for 4 mbps as the attenuation will go up, and the line will be unstable. So he recommended for me to upgrade to only 2 mbps.

Any comments/advice?

Your SNR is acceptable, but your Line Attenuation is way too high. However, you could ask the installer to test your line. All 4mbps Streamyx installation is subjected to test by the installers.

My Numbers:

Local Line Atten.: 7.5 dB
Local SNR Margin: 34.5 dB
DSL Standard: ADSL2+
Profile: Main
Tx Line Rate: 507 Kbps
Rx Line Rate: 5115 Kbps
Max Attainable Line Rate(Down Stream): 22560 Kbps

I'm using Streamyx 4mbps. The download speed of torrents are depending on the amount of seeders and peers. I could get 300-400kbps without any problems for popular torrents. Megaupload downloads are 200kbps max for each file (non-premium) and for mediafire downloads >400kbps.

Streamyx 4 mb. Just. Do. It.

10 TB of HDD space and counting..... all FULL.

I'm seriously making the vendors at Lowyat freaking rich with my HDD purchases...

12+ TBs a year. Worth it? You betcha.

Lol True enough.

But I have 'em all (the HDDs) in a low power File Server for QUICK access on my GBE LAN Network, so it's worth it lol

Besides... how can a 15 GB 1080p movie fit in a DVD unless you split it? Lol... and DVDs take too long to browse if i want my file(s) on Demand in the network... Blurays are still to expensive to burn for archiving....

And their all 10 GB+ files!
