While we are at it, can anyone tell me how many design are there for the basic RX-78-2 Gundam? I've seen similar designation but with different shoulder armor design. Why is that?

Not sure what you are asking, but here goes:

For gunpla...
MG - 1.0, 1.5, ver Ka, Perfect Gundam, OYW, ver2.0 (these are not including MSVs)
HGUC - original, 30th anniversary
Not sure about ancient versions of gunpla, and recolors/extra-finish/special editions don't count.

As for in-universe RX-78s,
RX-78-1 : Black and white unit
2 : Amuro's red-white-blue unit
3 : G3
4 : The blue one with beam launcher
5 : The red one with gatling
6 : Murdoch
7 : The Katoki designed one with full-armor parts.

Note that Murdoch is the only one without any mainstream gunpla released. There are also variations such as Casval custom and the recently released FA gundam. The Alex is loosely based on the RX78 series although it's often considered as a separate unit.

Hmm for RX-78-2, maybe can include Musha Gundam?

As mentioned, they are all different versions of the RX78's gunpla. No one knows why the variation exists - ask Bandai.
Generally speaking the ver2.0 is most accurate to the anime design. Note that apart from the Perfect Gundam and ver2.0, the other MGs all have a yellow frame around the chest vents; which is something not present in the original lineart.

FA Gundam is not RX78-2 variation?

but i like the ver ka wing more... it looks better imo any other with the same wing?

wing ver ka only reuse all wing zero custom body design(except on wing/weapon part)... but do they share the same inner frame?

Actually the other way around. Wing Ver KA released first. WZC recycles parts from the Wing KA.

Duke Beard is right. The frame is exactly the same on WGZC (EW) as with Wing ver Ka.

@xDarkKn1ghtx: If you like the ver Ka's wing, I think you'll like the new MG Wing's wing, cause it has articulation. Wing ver Ka's wing doesn't have any articulation (or minimal, can't remember exactly)

it's like 1 piece of plastic nia. articulation only at the joint with the backpack.

but i prefer ver ka. as nice and awsm the WZC may be, the joints drives me crazy. can never pose properly wan

If you said anime design, Wing Ver. Ka never exist in the original OVA at all....

Wing Ver. Ka was redesigned by Katoki to make it look more similar with WZC....

Yup, the Wing ver Ka's wings were really simple. The MG WGZC's angel wings were awesome! Even PG WGZC doesn't get this kind of treatment, which I wished it does.

I'd advise against Wing ver Ka. Though it may appeal to you earlier. In the end, I still like the angel wings version better, despite ver Ka has nicer colour scheme. Then my Wing ver Ka was back heavy and the backpack was a bit loose. Can't pose the wings properly.

That's weird. For me, MG Wing Ver. KA is my first MG ever (that's why my avatar is Wing Ver. KA) and it's the thightest join ever (even I got a lot of MGs after that), he still the tightest joins ever. The only thing that make me so upset with MG Wing Ver KA is....the size. A bit small compare to other MG.
