So will my roommate will be a new Foundation student too? or just a new student? or a old student? and is it possible that i wont get a roommate at all? And is there anyway that i can know who my roommate is beforehand?. nervouss... (sorry for the repeat)

Depends on how nasty the accommodation treat you. Email them or call them to ask.

I had just taken my SPM result 2 weeks ago.
N I am interested in studying e&e course,
but then I dono which college is the best to study this course...
I heard that Nottingham is popular with its engineering course,
but the fee is quite expensive n more than other colleges...
I dono is it worth to study there??? When I go to work, does this make a difference?
My friends recommend me to study at UTAR since I can get full scholarship there..
I worry that I might not able to improve my English at UTAR there,
since the main language there is Chinese..
Besides these 2 colleges, I oso consider MMU, UCSI b4...
I wonder engineering offered by UCSI ok or not..since UCSI is popular with its music n medi?
Any other suggestions from u all?
Share ur experience here n give ur opinion please..

Go with your budget, or to say, how much your parents are willing to pay for your education. No point drooling over Nottingham when your wallet can never afford it.

I was doing a bit reading in Lowyat Forum just now and realised a few Uni's thread use the word "best" as well in their description.  Perhaps we shouldn't ikut-same-aje?  Sounds like a bit corny lor...

Maybe sth like, Higher Education • Done the British way?

Just a bit of my thought tho... Heh heh..
*
It's because of the SETARA thing. Prefer the older "UK University of the Year" better though...
Next would be "United Kingdom . China . Malaysia"?

Anyone knows when is the orientation day, or is there one?

If you are looking for some crazy one like those in IPTA and IMU etc., there isn't any like that.
You have induction which basically brief you through about the facilities, rules etc. (i.e. stuff you need to know as a student) in Nottingham and I believe you also have something like a ice-breaking night.

I have a few questions. Do off-campus accommodation(TTS2) has anything in there particularly for household chores(washing machine*/broom/mop). During term break, if we want to go back to hometown will we have to pay for the accommodation fees(on-campus/off-campus) or? Is the food there expensive?(example:..?)
*
Depends on your landlord. If it's what university arranges, it's all furnished.
During term break, again, depends on your landlord. I am not too sure with those university arranged, but I think you are allowed to keep your stuff in a place (not your room) at some fee. Some private landlords will charge rental at a low rate for keeping your stuff (you can view that as advance booking fee also).

I think UON do offer a degree in applied mathematics ? because I searched the website and it falls under the engineering category. Not very clear about that, isn't applied mathematics stand alone ?
*
Not in the Malaysia Campus though.
In Malaysia Campus, the School of Applied Maths does come under the Faculty of Engineering as they are sort of the supporting department for all the Maths modules for Engineering students. Why they are included under the Faculty of Engineering is probably because they don't offer a standalone degree like Computer Science, Biotechnology etc. (of which those schools are all under Faculty of Science).

Hello I am considering to pick up Computer Science degree programme but i'm still keeping an open mind. I would like to ask a few questions regarding:

1)How is the course structure of Computer Science in Nottingham comparing to Multimedia University?

2)What are the exposure given to the students of Computer Science in Nottingham(eg. participation in seminars, conferences, competitions etc)

3) I've been to the Semenyih Campus once, and realized the library resources are pretty limited. How and Where do the students in Nottingham get their information pool from, considering if I am a student that loves to explore?

4)How high is the job opportunity of graduates from Computer Science in Nottingham compared to Computer Science in Multimedia University? I hope to get some insight of the industry about this.

5)What is the usual average number of students in a batch studying Computer Science?

6) Are the lecturers helpful? Are they willing to spend time for discussion with undergraduates after the lecture?

7) What IT-related companies are associated with Nottingham University locally?

7)Considering that the course structure pretty general, what is the common mindset of graduates of Computer Science of Nottingham. Are they more creative? or highly skilled? etc etc... Please advice.

Thanks in Advance.
*
I don't think we have ever come across anyone on this board with a CS background. However, the CS is reputable, as they are accredited by the British Computer Society. Not sure how many of other courses are accredited by that in Malaysia, but even got, will be very limited. That is the solid proof of the course being good. (But I can't find back the information on this. You may want to ask Nottingham for sure)
Indeed, library is not big but the electronic journals that we have access to is very large. We have subscribed to a lot of online journals. That might make up the loss for the small library perhaps.

The rest of your queries, are very CS and I don't think I can give further information than that.

Okay thanks!
Are the online journals very informative? How would you rate it in scale of 1-10?
*
It lets me find the information that I want, at least what I want to know is well covered by the university's subscription. I am from Mechanical Engineering if you are wondering.

Hey the mechanical folks here!

I am sure you all have received the email about the IMechE polo shirt.
Please strongly consider buying it as it's the very first shirt that the IMechE student chapter is releasing. We go rather conservative for our first design but don't let that put you off on getting the first exclusive Nottingham Mechanical polo shirt.

Haha, a bit of advertisement here, I am in the IMechE committee after all.

When are we moving to V4 btw?

^30 units for each year wei. I scared i tak jadi buy.

What I did in the android phone thread I was TS for, is have a public google doc where anyone can edit. That way the update-ness of the info is dependent on the person providing the data him/herself. I see pretty good response (I guess) from this method. I think if there ever is going to be an ever-updated data pool, this method can be considered.

@tanjinjack, how many people in your year now ah? What was the population in Year 1?
*
Nah, somebody sabotages and it's the end.

RM30 is a decent deal I believe. The material we choose this time is lacoste, so it strikes a balance in quality and affordability. It was even more expensive to begin with and we are just glad to have hunted down this supplier that gives us the best price. Try to reconsider it!

My batch has only about 70 students and the current year 4 has less than 30. I believe the current Year 1 and Year 2 are well over 100 la.
Why?

trying to anticipate the difficulty that is to come. Guess there's bound to be dropouts.

I'll surely buy it if I get the chance to. What I meant was I scared it was sold out too quickly considering the limited number of units allocated per class year.
*
LOL. Misread the "30". I thought you are not happy with the price.
Approach the representative assigned. If you really have trouble securing yours (that's after all 30 being taken), PM me. I'll see if I can sort things out for you.

The convention is that a thread expires when the page count reaches 125 (or 2500 posts). A new thread starter would then draft the new thread and post it, after which the former thread starter would close his/her old thread using his/her moderation option as the thread starter of that old thread.

The problem is where is the current TS?

Is nutrition course accredited by MQA?I search nothing in MQA's webside!
*
It's a new course, and that's why it has not attained accreditation on MQA.

Nottingham has Self Accreditation Status given by MQA, so I think they can accredit it themselves (is that how things work actually?)

You're interested in Nutrition course as well? tongue.gif
*
Never mind the MQA. More important is those accreditations from the professional bodies, like IET, IMechE, BEM, ACCA, CIMA etc.

I don't think there will be any professional bodies related with Nutrition coz it's not even a 4 yr course, the graduates can only be a Nutritionist (not protected term), not a dietician.

Recognized course for Dieticians are listed in this website.
http://www.dietitians.org.my/html/studyopportunities.aspx
Yup, this year. New course.
*
UK's BSc Nutrition leads to accreditation by the Association for Nutrition.
http://www.associationfornutrition.org/

Malaysia Campus will probably seek accreditation from them as well, like what they have been doing for the other of their courses.
In Malaysia, the more relevant accreditation might come from JPA, for them to be able to work as a government servant in general hospitals as nutritionists.

QUOTE(Mjern @ Apr 16 2011, 03:49 PM)
Hi,Can i know what are the important things to bring when going to stay there?
*
Whatever that you think you must have, or else you won't be able to stay there.
Daily stuff like towel, shower foam, toothbrush etc. are certainly a must. Observe your daily life, what do you use for your daily NEED? (TV and Mama's nice cooking should classify as WANT as you won't be able to bring that over no matter what)
Phone, laptop, their respective chargers, kettle (depends if you take hot drinks like milo, nescafe).
After you have your checklist, or after you have packed them up, simulate your day in uni in your brain. What do I do after I wake up. Oh, I forgot my toothpaste! Sort of, remember to of course, bring your choice of pillow and blanket and bolster (if you use it) etc.

You ought to miss out something. Don't be too stressed out on the checklist. Just be extra sure it won't be so crucial that you must make a second trip. Even if it really happens, stuff like changing clothes, pillow, charger that is a super must have, you also have no choice to either make a second trip, or buy another set for uni use.

It's already part of uni life!

I have the temporary username and password. And can somebody tell me where is the bridge to campus from tts5. My house is in TTS5/4.

Behind purple building. It's hard to miss.

QUOTE(Mjern @ Apr 18 2011, 05:07 PM)
I mean ,is there only computer lab we can only use now?How about library and sport facilities?
*
If you only have a temporary user name, by right you can only use the computer labs. I doubt if you can do any booking or loaning with that username - and that puts you out from borrowing books from library and using any sports facilities. You can however read books inside the library as you are not required to flash your ID to read.
Also, you may use the sports facilities without any booking - just that when those who booked come over, you must give up to them. Not sure if swimming pool needs booking or not. Not sure if the booking system really works well or not (except for those hot sports like badminton where booking really counts). Just go to the sports complex and see what you can do!

Call them up and talk with the Admission, let then know your case and see if there is anything they can do about it...
"Since it is free, no harm. right?" ABSOLUTELY WRONG, if they were to accept you, they will send an email seeking for RM1000 to confirm your place before they give you the offer, which seems to be a new policy this year.
Call them up and talk with the Admission, let then know your case and see if there is anything they can do about it...
+1, I was like, "Wah so fast they reply the application dy?" LOL.
*
Indeed, a new thing. But that won't make much difference if you are determined to join Nottingham as the RM1000 will be offset on your tuition fee.
If you are those kinds that want to shop around, see who gives you best offer, then hard la..

Told that to her also. Her last email to everyone was a link to the UK page regarding the ruling. One thing I boh song is that the UK page doesn't specifically say natural displays are not allowed, while in her first few emails she said natural display cannot use. Wonder if she's making up her own rule. hmm.gif
*
If you complain about that, then the other side will surely to complain back that they survive without the natural display.

If you think it's a big issue, raise it to the Director of Studies. Prepare some solid reasons though.
