I just notice BTO Tech is offering G73JH Refurbished with 3 months US warranty only. However, they allow customization and pricing wise not bad. Still the value batch among all is A2.

So far all high end games runs on my rig without any problems except when I update to the latest catalyst 10.7. I've just installed catalyst 10.7a but I haven't tested it yet. I only had 3 GSOD on 10.7 but that was running stock clocks at 700/1000. If I use AMDGPU tool to overclock to 705/1100 the GSOD will not happen. Please do note 10.7/10.7a increases idle temps by about 5~10 degrees. I used to idle at 55~60c now I'm idling at 60~66c sad.gif

No don't change vbios as it's not worth the hassle. Also it's official now at NBR and confirmed by an Asus rep that updating a non-Asus vbios voids your warranty. Also there is a risk you could brick your laptop. It's not a big deal flashing the vbios but if you are not sure how to do it you might end up with a 10K doorstop tongue.gif

I've given you another solution, use AMD GPU Clock Tool and set you clocks to 705/1100 and you should be able to run all games. Only problem is you need to set the clock speeds manually everytime you restart your laptop. If you are confident and want to have it automatically done then update to the vbios in NBR. I will advice to use ziddy's vbios or smilegerard. Other vbios out there will disable HDMI & VGA tongue.gif

I'm an experienced IT technician and have 14 years under my belt and I've got to warn you to be extremely cautious. It might not be a big deal for those who updated without issues but I have seen cases when people follow instruction exactly they still manage to brick whatever they were updating. My advice is to do a little research, find the most trustworthy source for a successful update and follow the instruction posted exactly. Oh and of course don't forget to pray with all your might tongue.gif

I'm still on the stock vbios mate. If you want a modded vbios the best bet is to check the link below and follow the instructions EXACTLY!

Ziddy's Vbios v3

Nice thanks alot Nero, can you briefly explain what you did in the vBios?

Added on August 12, 2010, 4:19 pm@Nerodante80: bro, may i know is your powerplay working? and what did you actually tweaked to fix the GSOD? is it just enabling powerplay? btw, i'm checking Ziddy's V3 vBios

http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus-gamin...-powerplay.html

and his voltage is lower 1.05v for default clock and 0.9v for 200/500, i'm running his vbios, maybe that explains why my idle temp is higher than yours but my load temp stays below 80.

"First when you flash with ATi WinFlash and you get a fail notice. DO NOT RESTART YOUR COMPUTER. First flash it again with WinFlash with the default bios, until you get success. Then restart and either use DOS method or reflash with WinFlash."

does it mean that if i flashed the wrong vBIOS i have a chance to undo it by flashing back my stock vBIOS?
*
@evern > Just noticed your question here blush.gif

If you get a failed message whenever flashing from windows, DO NOT REBOOT your unit or you WILL BRICK IT!

If you get a failed message, keep using the Winflash program and try flashing back the original stock bios until you get a flashed successful result. It's always advisable to flash in DOS mode than windows because the windows environment is not stable and sometimes causes errors during flashing. Sorry for the late reply tongue.gif

Good to hear wink.gif Thanks for the information too, this just confirms that most G73JH has the GSOD problem. Going to re-paste my GPU once my TIM arrives & hopefully it will resolve some of the problems biggrin.gif
