tmr first question gonna ask them is whether this 1 year warranty is an international warranty. if not, then second question would be can i extend my warranty without the need of canceling the order. if my sa says yes and i need to cancel, i will be questioning him why.
after all, my unit is not built yet. they surely can change the database.
then if still cannot, i will have to cancel and order a new one.
in the end, wait for another 1 month.

i think you can upgrade the warranty thingy without cancelling the order. IIRC, you can do all this even after receiving your machine, just check out Dell's website and place your service tag. All the info will be there.
No? blush.gif

QUOTE(Michaelbyz23 @ Feb 21 2010, 10:11 PM)
okay, your m15x still with you right? okay another question.
what do you think, just your opinion:

lets say:
if Dell said i have to cancel off my order and make a new order+pay the penalty (if there is any) just because i wanted to extend my warranty, what do you think they are up to? they wanted me to cancel this one and order a new one, could it be because they are assembling some better components for those who ordered 3 years warranty?
as for the one year units, they give components that have higher risk of having some issue after a year.
so what do you think?

unless if dell says, okay no problem, u just need to top up another rm 473 to extend your warranty.  otherwise, they will give me a mindset telling me that they are giving better components for 3 year warranty.
*
LOL What gave you that idea? Different assembly lines with different QC for different orders with different warranty lengths? That is preposterous! If that is even remotely true, and found out by the general public, they are up for a lengthy class action lawsuit for segregating quality control over something as trivial as a warranty length! What if I wanted to extend my warranty past one year after my order is my hands? Does my M11X then magically becomes better made with better components? doh.gif

If this is true, then what I have said before is true then. Dell's acquisition of Alienware has brought along its own mindset about production quality and its QC.

The reason why they had to reissue your order and make a new order is because their system does not allow tampering or amendment of the already made order to insert a new component. Sure the warranty itself isn't a physical component, but once they've locked down the order and service tag, it is treated like a physical component. Changing it requires a reorder straight away, and your current built, will be passed to the next one with similar order while yours will start from scratch.

Bolded and colored red for better visibility.

yes can, you can even extend if after you receive it. problem is, you need to pay nearly 1k if you extend your warranty ONLY after you receive it, used it, abused it sad.gif

hehe sorry mr doktor ...

but screemo, according to someone, i forgot where i read from liaw.. that person says he canceled his order and make a new one because he wanted to extend his warranty.

Added on February 21, 2010, 10:23 pmnono, you can still extend your warranty just before the warranty ends also.
but, you need to pay nearly 1k to do it..
okay, i get your point there. maybe its true.

i'l re-consider about it then. thanks for the advice.

Ahh, could be. Cuz I checked on the price if i wanna extend the bundled McAfee, the price is almost double. Well, i guess it works that way!
Its alwiz cheaper to get it done first time biggrin.gif

By the way, that part in bold and red , is not from my own mouth, it's from the CS manager herself. Take it as you will. I tried deducting the useless McAfee AV software from my order, but since the order was already locked down, I had to take it. McAfee is a bloated AV, not as robust as BitDefender or Kaspersky.

Welcome mate!
Erm, my M15x is okay, I'm not the type of user that will do all sorts of tweaking so I use it as it is. nod.gif
No major problems and honestly, you're paying for the warranty so that you will have a peace of mind for 3 years. It's a 'what if' situation we're facing as users. We won't know what will happen, so its up to you really. My previous laptop, the HP pavilion series, is still up and running for the 4th year now. I got the 3 year warranty that came with it, and guess what, it's still in perfect condition till today! Never claimed anything, and i'm not complaining. laugh.gif

Yup, just like string said, you can't take the mcafee out. if you ask the SA, he will tell you its bundled in the package. there's nothing you can do bout it. I did ask for it to be excluded, and it's not possible to do so. you gotta manually remove it. smile.gif

It may have similar virus definition and detection system as the rest, but when it comes system resources, it is hungry. I prefer an AV program that does its job unobtrusively and without eating up much of the CPU/system resource. Kaspersky and BitDefender fits that bill. With a gaming system like this, you'd want it to use as much of the freely available resources channeled towards a better gaming experience, not antivirus.

Kaspersky I use it for my M15X, and BitDefender for my Vaio P. BitDefender has an even smaller footprint and runs only when needed, with little sipping of system resources, perfect for netbooks.

Right on. cool2.gif The longest I've held on to a particular brand is Apple. The Alienware comes second.
