My previous order with Alienware, the m15x, never had any EDD, the order was updated in real-time. Meaning I get updates as the order passes the different phases, from production to shipping tracking. So I can't say how much faster it was because there was never an estimate to begin with. The last order chronology was:- » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « QUOTE October 21st 2008 - Your Order is Currently in Phase 1 -
Phase 1: (Order Confirmation) Your order has been received and is awaiting order confirmation. As part of our security procedures, all orders must be confirmed before they can be processed.October 23rd 2008 - Order moved to Phase 3!
Phase 3: (Payment Processed) Payment has been received and the order is now in queue for production. October 24th 2008 - Order moved to Phase 4!
Phase 4: (Pre-Production) The inventory that will be used to custom build the PC is being pulled and inspected. In the rare occurrence that a PC component is not readily available, you will be notified via email.October 25th 2008 - Order moved to Phase 5!
Phase 5: (Production Phase 1 - Assembly) Your system is being hand-built by an Alienware Assembly Technician. Alienware takes great pride in building our systems, as our motto reflects, "build it as if it were your own." The assembly stage can take some time, as all the components and cabling in the system is carefully installed for greater upgrade flexibility and thermal airflows. Every Assembly Technician has been trained and qualified to Alienware standards. We pride ourselves on giving you a high performance computer system!October 28th 2008 - Order is shipped! Phase 9!
Phase 9: (Order Shipped) Congratulations, the order has been shipped. We only hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed building it for you.
FINALLY!
[ Expected arrival date and time to my doorstep - October 30th 5pm! Tracking was later given the moment it was passed to DHL, again tracking in real-time. So you see, it's like having the Sales Agent right there next to me telling me every step of the way, in real-time. The efficiency of the Alienware Order Phase System (not Dell Order Status) helps towards that. This is Alienware UK based in Dublin, Ireland.

QUOTE(Michaelbyz23 @ Feb 21 2010, 09:55 PM) string, did u extend your warranty after you received your alienware? just asking No I didn't. It was a great risk taken on my part, seeing how the "broken hinge" problem was rampant at that time. Fast forward till now, still good as new. It is out of warranty now, and even out of production too, so it's "run at your own risk" already. EDIT: My order changed to "Uplift" already, on the 20th. Meaning it is on its courier agent now, on its way here. Hopefully by tomorrow or Tuesday, or by the latest early Wednesday, coz I need to get it before I'm flying to Adelaide. Long stay there too so can benchmark and play all I want while I'm there in that dead town. This post has been edited by stringfellow: Feb 21 2010, 09:59 PM

Especially the phrase "Alienware takes great pride in building our systems, as our motto reflects, "build it as if it were your own."" and "Every Assembly Technician has been trained and qualified to Alienware standards. We pride ourselves on giving you a high performance computer system". They proudly claimed it that way. Ever seen Dell say anything like that? I'm sticking with one year on mine. My lifespan of holding on to a laptop is usually a year or less. Once it passes that period, it'll then either get passed to a family member as I upgrade to better things, or I continue using it without warranty. Doesn't faze me. 2 - overclocking and its relation with warranty - warranty voided if item damaged due to overclocking.
3 - tips on how to get a discount - ask SA 1st.
4 - size of the Alienwares product in real life - M17x will cannot be use in typical 17" bag and M15x is recommended to use 17" bag.
5 - upgrading the hardwares - just available for HDD & RAM only. GPU, MOBO and CPU is not covered by Dell Malaysia.

okay, your m15x still with you right? okay another question. what do you think, just your opinion:
lets say: if Dell said i have to cancel off my order and make a new order+pay the penalty (if there is any) just because i wanted to extend my warranty, what do you think they are up to? they wanted me to cancel this one and order a new one, could it be because they are assembling some better components for those who ordered 3 years warranty? as for the one year units, they give components that have higher risk of having some issue after a year. so what do you think?
unless if dell says, okay no problem, u just need to top up another rm 473 to extend your warranty. otherwise, they will give me a mindset telling me that they are giving better components for 3 year warranty.

tmr first question gonna ask them is whether this 1 year warranty is an international warranty. if not, then second question would be can i extend my warranty without the need of canceling the order. if my sa says yes and i need to cancel, i will be questioning him why. after all, my unit is not built yet. they surely can change the database. then if still cannot, i will have to cancel and order a new one. in the end, wait for another 1 month.
