Arsenal really need a good leader. Fab is not a good leader, he is just not there yet. The kids need someone to look upon to. They need someone who can guide them and give them confidence. Altho the winning against Sunderland, I somewhat sense the morale is running low. Not much understanding among the players, dont know where to pass the ball. There is no excitement on the field. Only Eboue show more enthusiasm.

I yearn for the time of Henry, Vieira, Ljunberg and Pires. Even they lost the game, it could only be a exciting game. Not like now, even if they won, its still mundane or sometime just boring.

btw, Roman Pavlyuchenko scored 2 for spuds last nite. We should've got him on loan... oh well... hehe.

I always think he's the best option when we're in desperate need for striker who can fill up the void during Van Persie's absent. ..but oh well, it just too very bad that he has a history with Spurs.

And one more thing i noticed is that, our players have pretty weak legs. I mean apart from injuries, Van Persie has some powerful force on his left feet, and another power leg is of course Vermaelen.

I hope we'll do well when we have to travel to WHL later in April. I think we have a chance at Stoke this weekend and also a high chance of finishing March with 12 points. Nevertheless, hopefully we'll have Gallas, Eduardo and Arshavin back by next week.

No way. He isn't any better than any of our current strikers and has a relatively mediocre scoring record for Spurs, although his limited apperances do play a role here. Why would we pick him over Nik?

I somewhat disagree that Fabs is a poor leader. He's certainly not the most vocal we've seen, but he leads by example and fights for every ball.

Titi and friends did have poor games during their time. The horrible 1-6 loss at Old Trafford, the poor 0-1 FA cup exit vs MU in the unbeaten season, and the 120-minute battering by MU in the 04/05 FA cup final where we won with penalties. So yes, the unbeaten team does have their off days as well.

Storrie reveals Pompey's massive £131m wage bill
http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id...england&cc=4716

Even for the millions they spend, Portsmouth only managed to be a solid team for second quarter of the table at best. The complexities of football financial nowadays, it's not just as simple as paying millions for the transfer fees alone. Other than Arsenal, Everton look to be the best in juggling between the team and the financial matter.

Read it somewhere that much of the debt was started by Harry Rednapp when he was given the support to built the team there.

but after he left, things blown into propotion.

And Utaka earning 80,000 pound per week. Isn't tat is higher than most of our players?

He is too young to be a leader. Its hard for older and more experienced players to listen to him. To me making him a captain is not a good decision coz he still have a lot to learn and its just overburden him.

yep and vermaelen is the captain for Ajax before he came to us. Rosicky is the Czech team captain before he got injured. Arshavin also captain rite?

Captaincy is none issue for us after it was handed to Cesc. I think all the players really respect cesc because he's been conducting everything that thrown at him professionally.

like i was saying, he's a good backup to have. Rotating him and nik would be the best thing we can do because we know RVP ain't coming back so soon, rite? oh well... just for the sake of argument. biggrin.gif hehehe

bro, IMHO... young or older won't be an issue, it may look overburden him but in the same time he'll learn and had done his best to coop and shows with others what he can do and meaning of the team player ... maybe true some older and experience hard to listen towards him but as a Gunners that what AW wanted, collaboration and contribution from players and it's why AW trust in Cesc and give him a chance to become a future great leader... icon_rolleyes.gif

anyway... reality agreed with you bro, when we had young leader it's really hard to see part of the seniors would listen the idea and others matter... what that matters to them is " i taste the salt earlier than you...so?!.." thehehe.. icon_idea.gif

According to Steve MacMahon (ugh) on ESPN, sometimes the captain's job is more on organising stuff off the pitch. Things like their registration forms, PFA voting, organising social activities etc. Also he acts as the middle man between the squad and the management.

His reasoning is that on the pitch, the true leaders will all step up, regardless of who is wearing the armband. Adams used to wear the armband, but Keown, Bouldy and Parlour were just as vocal. And people like Vieira and Petit could take the game by the scruff of the neck.

The thing is... Do we have leaders in our team now? Just looking at our team sheet, Fabregas is the best we have on the basis of his talent. Vermaelen is one to lookout for with his no-nonsense approach but other than that, I think we're pretty stretched in this department.

Cesc is the best we have for captain. however, like i said, it's a non-issue for arsenal right now. It's down to individual errors that cost us most of our games this season. So, Cesc need to address that to that particular person and continue to motivate others. Leading by example is the best he can do right now. Aggressiveness will come along with experience and i think in a year or 2, he'll definitely will be more vocal and aggressive.

Added on February 23, 2010, 12:38 pmbtw, so quiet aa nowadays. hehehe maybe because arsenal win last weekend? huh? and MU lost?
