Hi Fellow Dell Studio owners,

I need some advice. I'm interested in getting a Dell Studio, as I have been a pretty much dell user for the past 10 years.

I have a Intel Quad Core Q6660 2.4GHz purchased 2 years back and seems to be doing all the tasks just fine.

My main use would be for Photo editing, however I would like to luxury of opening 1GB + tiff scans. Nothing critical in my editing - basic lightroom commands.

I would like the option to switch to SSD sometime in the future (or is this just using the same sata interface?)

Battery life is important, but never at the cost of performance. I can always carry a spare battery.

Which model should I be looking at sufficient for the above?

SSD is using the same sata interface, so no problem upgrading later on.

You might want to consider the i7 version, since its quad core, the same with your desktop.
or the i5 model to reduce some cost.
Though do note that desktop would always performs better than notebook with less money...

Dell took it off from their website sometime ago, it appeared sometime later, and now its gone again. Give it a day or two, they might put it back up on the website again smile.gif Not too sure about it getting discontinued tho...

i know whats my problem edi, i have tested my speaker. When my laptop is cool ( just on the Laptop), the speaker of the sound was okay. not that buzzy. When i use it around 15 mins ( where to the laptop gets hots) , the buzz sound sounds more obvious compare the 1st few mins i turn on my laptop. At 1st i tot maybe is the driver setting or what so ever, i try turning off my laptop and restarting it. The Buzz sound was still there whenever the laptop gets hot. So anyone know the conclusion?

Could be a warped or partially separated voice coil in the speaker itself.
In this case if the laptop has stereo speakers the buzz will likely come from just one of the speakers not both.

hey guys, can i know whats the cheapest price for the 1640 now?

i read in the earlier posts and some stated they got it for 3599? the website shows 3999 currently.

How can i get a cheaper price for this?

I really want to get it as soon as possible...but close to 4k is a little too off my budget.

Hi,

I am going to buy Dell Studio XPS 16 core i7-720 showed on dell website at RM4999.
Can you pls advice some questions about this :
- Is it 1645 or 1647, what's the different.
- I heard there is problem with 90w adapter heat and throttle, can we buy with 130w adapter. Do Dell solve the problem.

Thanks.

If you want to game or 1080p screen, SXPS 16
If you want to do 3dmax, AutoCAD or encoding movies or something that can fully utilized the quad core, Studio 15 is your choice.

For the Studio 15, you can consider Vostro 3700, 17.3'', i7 720QM + Nvidia GT 330M@RM4199, its in pre-order now.
It has better GPU and same CPU than Studio 15 smile.gif

powerfull CPU 4sure have heat issue, 1647 slightly better than 1645 in terms of battery life, heat generate, gaming performance n $$$

dell still giving 90w adapter current BIOS doesnt support 130w
