Hi,
I wan to buy a laptop within dis week but i still not decide which 1 to buy. 1 on my list is S42. Can any1 give me better idea / opinion on dis model (GPU/CPU performances, heat, weight, money value, comparison to another model/brand etc, etc...), since dis model is quiet old (P8700 not i5...). Main concerns: games, long usage, multitasking, can withstand 4 another 2-3 years (in terms of performance), budget (<RM2900). Very appreciate 4 ur help |

You can't break 5.9 without an SSD. The performance index is made that way.
I'll check my HDD speed later. I don't know whether mine is 5400 or 7200 either @Games4Life: Check my Windows performance index, you decide. Plus, if you go and take a look at all those Core i5 laptops, what GC are they using? 9600m GT is on par with Radeon HD 4670, so your minimum requirement is at least 9600m GT or Radeon HD 4670. I've seen Core i5 notebooks running on GMA. Notebookreviews usually carry 3dmark scores of them graphics cards This post has been edited by blindbox: Mar 29 2010, 12:43 PM |

ok...i think i can give u a few opinions
first of all, this laptop is great, the display is wonderful, the performance is still one of the best with the price that comes.. as for ur worry, the processor, mine was the very first batch, p8400, running on 2.26Ghz only, but for daily use or gaming needs, i don see any bottlenecking from processor so far, multitasking is video + msn + firefox, all runs without lag the weight is also slightly lighter then other 14.1'' according to other forumer here mentioned. and for battery life, you can have a maximum of 4 hours++ battery life when u switch to the intel integrated graphic, and if u wanna game, u can switch to the nvidia 9600M GT for the gaming performance, however don expect long battery life from nvidia card though...typically if u are watching video and surfing internet, u get around 2 hours battery life, from what i notice the speakers are great too, to my, it's just great, although it lacks of bass(like all the other laptop speaker out there), but the sound clarity is just great.. as for disadvantage...first of all that you will notice, is that there is no short cut media keys at all, for instance, those "Play" "Stop" global keys are totally not there. and there is also temperature issue on nvidia card, gaming temperature can reach as high as 98C, however typically, newer batch S42 will only reach 89C-92C on maximum heat(other new batch users correct me if i am wrong) lastly, the driver itself. for the last 4 pages, blindbox have been trying to get modded graphics driver for hybrid graphic to work, however, result is he keep failing..however, that will soon be solved, because Nautis, a famous graphic driver modder have promised a periodical release of graphic drivers for hybrid graphic it's really up to u about this laptop, the heat is not that noticeable for anything lower then 85C, u will just feel slight warm on ur left palm(where the GPU is located)..as for the actual gaming performance, please refer first page post #2 for benchmarks being done by forumers in the past if u still have any doubts, feel free to post here, we will all be happy to help Added on March 29, 2010, 12:43 pm@blindbox: nvm HDD la...games nowadays also not really being bottlenecked by it right? haha...just leave it be la This post has been edited by BBXiong: Mar 29 2010, 12:43 PM |

QUOTE(lee_what2004 @ Mar 29 2010, 12:47 PM) I beg to differ.http://techreport.com/articles.x/15559/6 Laptops got their core running on 500MHz, so scale accordingly. Even then, 9600 GT still rocks Hell, that's the main reason I bought this laptop lol Yes, 9600m GT is probably the only non-rebranded notebook GPU. 9600m GT chip= 9600 GT chip This post has been edited by blindbox: Mar 29 2010, 12:57 PM |

MANY THNX!!!
About d heat, when playing games, if I use cooler(now using Cooler Master one...), how much d temp will drop? @ blindbox: taking 4 exp: ASUS A42JR (i5 430M + ATI 5470HD) and DELL Vostro 3700 (i5 430M + NV GT330M + BIGGG 17 inch screen -not on my list). If compare with these models, ??>??>?? in terms of CPU/GPU performance? |
