The Vaio CW26 would be better choice of those two, its one of the best performance available in 14'' region, plus it has higher resolution
Since you're into video and doesn't really need that much of powerful graphic card, you might want to consider Dell Studio 14 with i7.... Is it restrictly to 14''? This post has been edited by lee_what2004: Mar 6 2010, 10:44 PM |

Well, 0.1GHz difference isn't really that much, mostly on couple of seconds in cpu intensive job.
Well, as for the HDD, it would depends on the model of the HDD, because some 5400rpm can wins 7200rpm in performance and vice versa. Though I would suggest not to decide on a notebook based on its HDD, since its easily replaceable/upgradeable, unlike its other component such as CPU, GPU, screen... and yes, XPS 1530 is 15''. Well, 14'' Asus is a bit on the lower end, Asus A42JR, i5 520M + ATi HD5470@RM3099 with 2 years international warranty by default, but should be sufficient for your usage...
Though if you want higher resolution, then only the Studio 14 and Vaio CW offer that... |

QUOTE(xMeltz @ Mar 7 2010, 12:20 AM) Hmm from your recommendation i search for the 2 product and found out these spec. I would rate SU7300 > AMD Neo > Celeron. But couldn't make decision on which one is better. Hope to get more advice or pros & cons from each model. Quoted from official website: » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Which one might be the better option in term of reliability and performance? With exception AMD Neo would have better graphic power but in this case, doesn't have meaning much since its usage is just for assignment/online. While for Celeron 743, its single core, and also it would run at fullspeed at all time since it doesn't have speedstep. Well, if have the budget, the one with SU7300 would be much preferable, though. Both model that using it, would have similar performance, the difference is on cosmetic wise and battery life, (Vostro V13 (30Whr) will be on the low side, around 2-3 hours iinm, compared to Thinkpad with 63WHr, with the same spec, it should get double the battery life.) The major flaw on Vostro V13 is its 1 slot RAM. In a realistic price, you can only get 2GB. Screen, Thinkpad glossy QUOTE(jeff_v2 @ Mar 7 2010, 04:44 AM) looking for a new laptop soon, already survey compaq cx35 and tosiba satelite... Usage? Screen size?need an opinion and recommendation from all the expert here... my budget is 2k not above 2.5k... thanks |

QUOTE(SPuNx @ Mar 7 2010, 02:12 PM) I don't, mind on the brand as long as its reliable or common, I have a budget of 3.5k or so, decent specs like i5 processor/4gig, upgradeable to 8/decent graphic card, good for gaming/multi-tasking and 15" screen. Acer 5942 cost RM4799 I'm planning to buy a laptop within the week, my forced choice is Acer Aspire 5740 unless there's a better alternative, I'm all ears. btw is Aspire 5942 a good laptop? Good gaming wise, Sager NP2098 but its using c2d and need to be ordered online... or forego the i5 requirement, get Toshiba Qosmio F60-S530@RM3799 QUOTE(jw_92 @ Mar 7 2010, 03:32 PM) im planning to buy a laptop with a budget of 3k+ maybe.. M11X would game better than those three, hard to choose between these few models Acer Aspire 5740G-524G50 Macbook White late 2009 Alienware M11X which would be the best one for me? im a college student and i do gaming once a while but i would like my laptop to last for few years Macbook, if you want to use Mac OS X Acer 5740G, better cpu but weaker gpu than M11X. QUOTE(arton @ Mar 7 2010, 03:52 PM) I need a Laptop less than 4k... Vaio CW26@RM3999, Alienware M11X starting @RM3499, Asus N82Jv@RM3999Purpose gaming, for oversea studies also...aussie rarely have night life... Able to play starcraft 2 in the future and other games... 14" screen maximum... For student use also... thanks...=D This post has been edited by lee_what2004: Mar 7 2010, 09:43 PM |

For 1.5K, not much of choice, expecially with international warranty.
Dell Inspiron 14@RM1499 and Compaq CQ40-712TU@RM1499 the only fit the budget. But for Dell you need to upgrade the warranty to 3 Years for it to be international and as for compaq, no idea. or Dell Inspiron 13@RM1399, but you would need to purchase external dvd-drive separately... 3 years warranty is another RM369, provided you buy it online.
Smaller notebook, Acer 1410T@RM1499, 11.6'', better spec than most netbook but no OS and no dvd-drive, one year international traveller warranty. Or if interested with netbook, can consider Dell Mini 10v@RM999, 10'' though, |

Windows 7 Home Premium would cost around RM300...
If really considering Acer 1410T + Windows, its better to get Acer 1810TZ@RM1899, it comes with Ori Windows, bigger hdd, bigger ram. This post has been edited by lee_what2004: Mar 15 2010, 11:47 AM |

The other 11'' would be Dell inspiron 11z, starting from RM1.7k
How long battery life do you need? 5 hours is achievable by 1410T/1810TZ/4810TZ.. If you need more than that, then your choice is only netbook, those previously mentioned acer and dell inspiron 11z is CULV notebook, they have performance between netbook and regular notebook while still keeping quite a long battery life. For netbook, just choose the battery life/design/warranty that you like, performance wise, they all pretty much similar. This post has been edited by lee_what2004: Mar 7 2010, 11:01 PM |

QUOTE(Tsunadee @ Mar 7 2010, 11:23 PM) Dell Inspiron 13z starting at RM 2399While Vostro 1320 starting at RM 1759 QUOTE(jw_92 @ Mar 7 2010, 11:24 PM) so actually which performance cpu or gpu matters the most? For gaming, GPU is more important, second is CPU.and wat about other models at this price range? Upgrade in GPU affects more than an upgrade of CPU in gaming performance. Well, you only said 3K+, is this including RM3999? If yes, you might want to consider Asus N82Jv, it has the CPU and the GPU from Acer 5740G and M11X, i5 520M + GT335M QUOTE(cyclonez @ Mar 7 2010, 11:26 PM) Well, warranty is expensive, especially international one. This post has been edited by lee_what2004: Mar 7 2010, 11:32 PM |

What do you hope from 3K notebook
If you still can find BenQ S42 or S57, it would perform better in gaming than Acer 5740G... This post has been edited by lee_what2004: Mar 7 2010, 11:45 PM |

I know nothing much about nettop, but I'll try my best
1. from link, it does carry video and audio. 2. I don't see any problem for it running 24/7 to download movie, just make sure it has good temperature surrounding then its fine. |

QUOTE(Tsunadee @ Mar 7 2010, 11:55 PM) Depends on your usage, long battery life, 13z then, performance more, then Acer 4740G, though I would suggest Asus A42Jr@RM2599, it has better GPU if gaming is your intention.QUOTE(jw_92 @ Mar 7 2010, 11:57 PM) It has switchable GPU, nvidia optimus, so should be more than 2.5 hours. And through some info from CeBit, its supposed to have 8-cell, not sure why it stated 6-cell here...else, M11X is your best choice if you really need than 2.5 hours. Not really,
lasting as in performance, then its from its spec, since if its can game, it should be able other task you want unless you have other specific requirement. But its really depends on the user itself, one can tolerate using pentium 4 nowadays and some must at least use i7, etc... lasting as in physically, then see from its material and build quality, which I usually see in business notebook like HP EliteBook or Lenovo ThinkPad, but those alone cost a lot in basic specs since most of the cost goes to other aspect. Performance = Expensive Build Quality = Expensive Performance + Build Quality = Double Expensive This post has been edited by lee_what2004: Mar 8 2010, 01:09 AM |

Performance wise, Asus A42Jr would be better, i5 520M + ATi HD5470@RM2999
Toshiba M500-S433 comes with i5. Lenovo wise, still i3 for its G460 series, Dell would be Dell Studio 14. |
