Is it necessary to change the current cables to accommodate the b.yond? I am getting conflicting views especially from the dumb*ss at Astro who says need to change cables.
I have 2 decoders currently one max and other normal and I surely do not want to hack the walls just to get this thing.
Any of you using existing cabling?
*
Bro, they just want to help you to minimize loss of signal during rain. That's why they change to new 65 dish, new LNB & new cable. All of this is to improve signal strength & better resistance during raining.
If you happy with your signal strength using existing cable, just use it. But don't blame them if you get signal lost during rain.

i've forgotten - but if i'm not mistaken, i think if we have two decoders for the new dish...there's two output from the dish to the decoders - one for Beyond, one d for the existing decoders...

i think a new hole is needed to get these two new wires in...the existing hole from the old dish can only fit one cable, hence the need for another hole, or to make the existing hole bigger...

i remember having to pay rm10 for a f-connector female adapter on both ends to combine the existing cable to the new cable from the new dish...quick job this one. Not sure if this the ideal way but it works and i'm happy... smile.gif

*
Good point. You need to have 2 cable to the dish. They use new LNB with two connector, so cannot use splitter.
If you only have 1 cable, you need to install 1 more cable from decoder to the dish.

I doubt the cables they give are as good as the Beldens I installed throughout my house. And 20m bare cables does not agree with my decor and surely does not cover all 3 floors. To me they are trying to make extra dosh on behalf of the installers
*
If u don't want to install the new cable, just take it from your installer, it's FOC for 20m.

If you use splitter, when byond decoder tune to HD channel, your SD decoder won't get any signal.
One of forumer (back in V2) post a picture how the LNB with 2 output looks like.
Here is the link LNB with 2 output

Just like to know is recording enabled via the usb at all?
*
In 2010, ASTRO aims to be the first in the world to offer video recording through external hard drive. With this service, customers can record their favourite programmes and personalize their TV viewing schedules. Astro B.yond will also introduce Digital Video Recording (DVR), Video on Demand (VOD) and IPTV connectivity in phases over the next 24 months.

for IPTV - we need HSBB, if only 1MB line haiyah... sweat.gif

Obviously, Astro will not offer thru TM HSBB. nod.gif
Maybe using fixed line Maxis Broadband

It's not 1MB, actually 1Mbps smile.gif

However, I get very white picture with noisy sound. The AV-RF is not faulty cos I've tested it with a DVD Player and works fine (clear picture, excellent sounds). Only when I connect it to Astro B.yond decoder then this happens.
*

Make sure you connect it using composite video & audio (Red, White & Yellow) not Component (Red, Blue & Green)
Try other source as well

i'm using the composite cable and not RGB. Another forumer here said he's using the same AEM AV-RF converter but gets  clear connection. Could it be something to do with astro settings?
*

Composite & Component output is fixed at 576i, there's no setting you can change. Try connect from byond composite output direct to your tv. If ok, try connect AEM to other source as well

im talking about the cable. not astro byond...
if ur talking about byond then component support both 720p and 1080i astro byond output. cuz component max is 1080p while composite connection max is 480i.
*

I just trying to help him & this is byond topic, i mean specifically about byond only. Of course, component can support video format up to 1080p.
Ur misguided about byond. Just connect composite & component output from byond to your TV, you won't get any signal other than 576i. You wonder why? Just find it by yourself.

meaning we can enjoy Byond free till April onwards and if we were to terminate Byond, we still hav to pay rm20x12 mths to Astro and also lose the Byond box?
*

Not sure about termination fee, but you have to obey 12 months contract. Byond set is belong to Astro, they have right to take it from you once you terminate the subscription.

I'm using Sony KLV-32EX300 which is suppose on 1366 x 768. Picture is better on SD channel but "soft". Might have buy Sony HDMI rather than using Astro HDMI. smile.gif
*

Just waste your money to buy Sony HDMI cable, PQ will same as byond cable. You need to calibrate your display to improve 'soft' picture.

About next month B.yond RM20 charge, for how long do we have to pay? 1@2 year? hmm.gif
*

As long as you subscribe it, or until Astro decide to drop it which is very very unlikely. Perhaps they will increase it shakehead.gif

Try to look at the ball when camera zoom into it. If you notice it's in perfect round shape, your aspect ratio should be ok. But if you notice it's in ellipse shape, that's mean something wrong with aspect ratio. You'll hardly notice when the ball is so small

Also, makes me wonder why their IPTV can work through any and all ISPs while TM's can only work with HSBB and not Stimix.
*

Stimix can only support up to 4Mbps now, not enough bandwith for HD channel. If their initial plan is on track, it should be launch by end of this month link

Bro I dont think RTM HD is Free, When HD, RTM got standard oredi  cannot free decorder also NOT FREE !! cry.gif  yawn.gif
*

RTM is FTA channel, so you can receive & watch it for free, even when it is in HD. When it's available, of course you need to buy the decoder. Just wait when the standard is set (DVB-T/DMB-T), TV manufacture will include the tuner in their set. So, you won't need buy additional decoder.

by cutting off power is not a force update / download la.... that one call power reset only...
anyway... if u really know how to do force update, PLEASEeeeeeee..... teach me... TQ.... smile.gif
*

1) Switch off the decoder at the main power supply
2) Switch on back the decoder
3) Immediately after the 'Boot' message appears on the decoder screen, press 'on/off' button followed by 'ch+' button and 'on/off' button again in quick succession
4) The decoder will reboot itself and the 'Auto Update' message should appear
5) If this does not work, it means that you already have the latest software version

Btw, if you leave your decoder in standby mode, after 5 min it will auto check for software update.

RTM wont go HD, the best they go is Digital Tv laugh.gif

What a waste, HD is digital ma... Existing program they can just upscale it. If you notice, PQ on RTM channel is better than any local channel if not any SD channel in byond.
