Honestly speaking, I don't see any difference using 576p to watch HD channels compared with 720p or 1080i.
*
Really? I did that before, but i notice very big different between 576p to 720p/1080i especially when watching football. U'll also lost wonderful experience watching HD with a lot of details. My TV Full HD summore.
I just think if Astro can improve PQ on SD channel just like when I scaled down HD to 576i, it will be great.
Btw, i would prefer switching to component input for SD channel rather than using this method.

Don't need a screenshot, if you are using LCD/Plasma, ESPN is like looking through a dirty window, ESPNHD is with the window open!

Another comparison is if u're nearsighted, ESPN is like u look with your naked eyes, ESPN HD is when u put your glasses on. brows.gif

Would  this really give better PQ on SD channels? In that case I can connect the byond box via HDMI and Component to my TV and just switch inputs when I switch between SD and HD channels.
*
Depend on you & your tv. some said component give better PQ than HDMI on SD channel, some said no different.
But TallJustin from Astro admit that there is different & new firmware will release to fix this issue (but dunno when).

You can compare it yourself, don't forget to connect audio cable as well biggrin.gif

i experienced some minor problem...
sometimes, when watching fast moving action, my tv got lining...blur2....sometimes more than half screen...sometimes got, sometimes not...using 1080i signal...
when using 720i signal, it oni got 1 thick line...at the center of the screen...how can i solve this problem?
*
Didn't really understand your prob, maybe you can post a picture for better understanding.
You may try to switch to 576i/576p if the problem still happen.

iptv!!!is it true...maybe the guy is among the first trial people...hehe, so confirm or not it will hit our country??no telkom badge there?
*
Absolutely not TM IPTV. TM IPTV is Thompson brand with silver color for trial. I've seen it myself tongue.gif
Where he got that pic? It's like coax cable with BNC connector, something like cctv/AV to RF/some kind of AEM link. Just guessing biggrin.gif
Furthermore, device at the bottom - Denavo something like DVR for cctv.

and is there a way to get second byond decoder without having to subscribe?

so i don't have to keep moving the decoder from tv hall to projector room?

tks
*
Byond decoder tied with specific byond smart card. U cannot freely moving byond smart card to other byond decoder - just like normal astro smart card - it won't work.
U may consider to split byond signal.

A word of caution, if can pls avoid programming the TV with Asstro's remote esp. if your tv is not  the latest which can accept this. I had a Samsung 2007 model programmed  all okay after  less then a month The TV went to standby mode  and cannot be turned on forever, the technician could not find anything wrong finally blamed on the on off electonic system which could have hanged due to remote programming and could cost a few  hundreds! Pls note that LCD repairs costs  a bomb ! I did not wish to repair it cos it was a 50hz hd ready not full hd, traded in for RM500 and  got a Toshiba and with the Redza link NO programming is needed the TV wld read and act accordingly even turning on your AVR ! This is only my opinion on programing all remotes esp be cautious do not allow Beyond remote to handle your tv please ,it May interfere with your TV  I repeat it MAY interfere with the system  .hmm.gif  :
*
I actually doubt about this, why so many byond user having no problem about it. Maybe your problem is isolated case or because of something else. I know it's too early to tell, but kind a doubt it.

that's bad news. but i thought it's the device that is locked (as in the case of phones) and not the sim ... anyway, maybe I just don't understand the technology at work here.
*
I think it work this way.
Astro signal only can transmit 1 way, which is downlink only. You cannot transmit back to Measat, unlike mobile phone.
Broadcast signal is encrypted & can be decrypt using Byond decoder s/n & smart card s/n only, which has been set by Astro. So, if your smart card is faulty, they just update their database with your new smart card s/n. hmm.gif

Volume control doesn't work for HDMI connection, u need to sync with your tv volume control. Please refer page 1, 1st post.

it is doesnt work for the whole life ? or maybe after upgrading by astro the button only can functioning ..
*
Volume control for byond decoder (by default) is for analog audio out (RCA red/white connector) only. If u using digital connection (HDMI/Digital Coax), volume won't change even when u adjust it.
So, u need to control using TV volume. If u want to control your tv volume by using byond remote, u need to sync byond remote with your tv (please refer byond manual)
Yeah, it doesn't work for the whole life laugh.gif

ok tried all the number code in the manual to synch my byond remote to my panasonic. found 2 code that can sych. but only work for the 'tv on/off" and the "av" button. No effect at all on the volume.

my model is L37G10. anyone has this same problem?
*
After you sync the remote, you need to Press “OK” and “vol +” until the remote blinks twice, then you can control your tv volume.

By the way, I'm using the Samsung 40B530, can I just the B.yond remote to control the TV? Anyone know is this TV support by the remote?
*
Should be supported.
Press “OK” and “TV” till the light on the remote blinks twice.
Enter Samsung code (refer to byond manual)
or
Use option 2 - using 991 (refer to manual)

i've question for byond..the normal channel will be the same or poorer..i mean the picture quality and the sound..
*
Should be better, unless your existing upscaler is good. I use s-video before, really notice the different.

btw, anyone here notice that TV2 PQ is better than any SD channel. I notice when watch kung fu hustle yesterday, aspect ratio also seem like correct in stretch mode (i use stretch mode in SD).
Wonder why shocking.gif

2012...then people should start to buy their hdtv now..

By then you need to use another set top box for FTA channel smile.gif
Because of the standard to use not yet define (DVB-T/DMB-T), TV manufacture hasn't include built-in HD tuner in their TV set.
EU/US set TV has had built-in HD tuner to receive FTA channel & even Freesat tuner in UK

Anyone noticed that the audio levels between HD & SD has been been corrected to the same level? No longer are the HD channels louder.

Yes, noticed that. Seem like Astro lowering audio level for HD, SD channel unchanged.

well, history HD has a footage from old video source like during WWII era or from amateur cameraman.. never has a HD resolution during that time, they only upscaled it i think

3. Old smart card can be slot into byond decoder but only can use normal video cable only to view the picture. If u use HDMI cable, no picture. i also dunno why. maybe got any brother enlighten on this issue (or need to do additional setting)
*
Try set HDMI output to 576i, maybe astro doesn't allowed normal subscriber to upscaled it or not allowed at all.

QUOTE(cyberkoh88 @ Feb 23 2010, 01:03 PM)
4. If u live on condominium that using centralized dish, u still can use new byond smart card + decoder and plug into it. (Only can view SD channel only, HD channel cannot, need to wait for yr condo management to upgrade the dish)
*
Then, pay additional RM20 for nothing nod.gif
