Since I've bought the Italy home 2008 jersey that is made by puma using USP technology... there is a need to be careful when ironing it...
![]() ![]() This Italy jersey uses the USP technology: ![]() Some information on puma's USP technology: ![]() These jerseys have a unique mesh material on some areas of the jersey (mainly on the front). As you can see below, the front material (on the outside) looks like a net: ![]() Outer layer of the USP technology jersey.. In reality, there are 2 separate layers. One is the outer layer (that looks like a net) as shown above, another layer is the inner layer as shown below: ![]() The 2 different layers (inner and outer) of the puma USP technology jerseys.. Now.. as jerseyman advised previously.. washing your jersey in my opinion and then ironing it helps to prolong it's lifespan if you tend to wear it.. Of course, the best method to keep your jersey forever is by keeping it untouched.. Then keeping it in plastic covers is another story. But if you want to iron your puma USP tech jerseys after you've washed and spin dried them.. be careful.. Do not: ![]() Do not iron directly on top of the club crest/puma logo without any paper cover covering between the inner layer and outer layer.. ![]() Do not iron beneath the club crest/puma logo without any paper cover covering between the inner layer and outer layer.. Why? Although it is recommended to iron press beneath your jersey's club crest, sponsors and nameset (to enhance the glue bonding) for the puma USP tech jerseys.. there are 2 separate layers.. By doing so (with no cover between the inner and outer layer) will cause the club crest/puma logo that is applied on the outer layer to bond and stick with the inner layer.. This causes the jersey to not function using it's USP technology as optimum as possible (bad ventilation) and it doesn't feel nice... right? For all.. I mean all puma jerseys that uses this USP technology.. notice on the front layer (bottom half), there is a small gap hole located as shown below: ![]() Where the gap hole is located ![]() Close up view of the gap hole At first I though that my jersey has a torn stitching on the bottom half (front layer).. but it was actually intended to be there.. Why? So that you can insert into the gap hole (in between the 2 layers) a paper cover that you can use to cover beneath the club crest/puma logo. This gap hole can also be used to insert a cover that covers when you want to print the front number in front of the jersey (for national team jerseys)... To be continued.. |

Continued..
Here's how to do it.. First, look for a rough paper that you can use as a cover. I've opted for the oil paper that normally comes together in plastic bags of jerseys. Then I cut it to make it a small rectangular shape as shown below: ![]() Cut a oil paper into a small rectangular shape Then I insert the paper into the gap hole: ![]() ![]() You can insert you hands and arms into the hole... it fits.. Then.. place the paper beneath where the club crest or puma logo sits: ![]() You can then cover the club crest/puma logo with plain white cloth before you iron on top of it. This is to avoid iron marks or ruining the crest/logo: ![]() You can sprinkle some water before you iron. Then iron press it gently.. the idea is just to enhance the glue bonding and to make the crest's surface ironed and smooth: ![]() After you've done that.. notice that the crest/puma logo will not stick on the paper cover. If it does, it might be minimal and can be peeled off easily: ![]() There are gaps and the crest is not bonded accidentally with the inner layer Next step is to iron the puma logos near the shoulders.. To do this, as usual, slide the paper cover up to the area where the puma logo near the shoulder sits: ![]() Then.. As what was done earlier.. Cover the area with plain cloth and then iron press it.. This will help bond the glue of the puma logo and crests.. Have fun! This post has been edited by schmeichel7: Jan 28 2010, 02:28 AM |

The gap is actually for application of front number and patch, so that the netting would not stick onto the shirt when application.

I remember you telling me this way back in 2008.. You went to ali and applied the NNs there, for your brother I think. I remember you telling me about it (the need to insert extra paper cover for front number printing)..QUOTE(zaidizero @ Jan 26 2010, 11:42 PM) wow, never thought ironing jerseys would require so much attention to detail and takes a lot of work.
