QUOTE(myalison @ Jan 27 2010, 01:21 PM)
need some advise here.

i purchased 4 jerseys from kitbag with the total value of £64.35 plus £6.95 shipping fee. it was 0.8kg as stated in the tracking website.

UPS called up to inform that i need to pay the tax of RM 209.80

i need advise here. my total purchase is below RM 500 and below 1kg. in fact is abt RM 400 and the tax is ridiculously high. as i read from the previous thread:

"And here comes the important part. Any goods with a declared invoice value of RM500 or lesser is not dutiable, irregardless of how high the actual tax, ie. 40% or 50% tax. So its safe to say that if your purchase value is below RM500, you won't need to pay any form of tax."

is there any way for me to be exempted from the tax? can i refuse to accept the item. if yes, what will happen?

thanks in advance.
*
actually the value of your total shipment seems quite low.
i believe kitbag auto-upgraded your shipment thats why u got the UPS option.

anyway back to the topic, the amount of your shipment and the weight of your shipment seems pretty low.
so i think the best option would be for you to go to the UPS office and check out the customs form for yourself.
make sure you read the details on being taxed.

rm209 is not alot. they do charge rm50 for their handling fee for paying the customs tax for you first.
i believe another guy had a problem similiar to this and he went to sort it out at the office, and got off without paying.
cant remember exactly what happend.
so just check the form, dont worry cos they have everything in black and white.

they are claiming to charge u for something but no proof of it?
that's conmen.
everything need proof of purchase - receipt.

the invoice of what?

yes there is a customs form that will show you the amount being taxed.
the breakdown of your shipment value + insurance value + shipping value.
then u can see what made the total be over rm500.

QUOTE(myalison @ Jan 27 2010, 05:40 PM)
from the invoice of kitbag, no freight or insurance was stated. the only amount stated in the invoice is Invoice Line Total : 64.35 and Total Invoice Amount : 64.35 GBP.

just for clarification, freight charges on the tax form should match the amount of shipping fee i paid for? yes, i paid 6.95 GBP.

@rosicky_return, i see that u place order from kitbag every 2 weeks. have u encountered any tax issue before this? thanks.
*
about the issue of the shipping charges, this one u should try to talk to kitbag.
UPS just handles kitbags shipments.
so u tell kitbag that you wanted the normal shipping and now u have to pay for tax because they used UPS for your shipment.

QUOTE(myalison @ Jan 27 2010, 05:03 PM)
ok got hold to the tax form now.

FOB : RM 351.69
Freight : RM 222.30
Insurance: RM 3.52

CIF = RM 577.51

just curious why is the freight charges so high. is there anything wrong with it? being taxed under 6205.09.000. is that correct? remember seeing in previous thread that the code is 6109.90.000. will that make any differences?

advices appreciated  notworthy.gif
*
i dont think what catergory matters. cos jerseys will kena 30%.
thus your CIF (which means consignment + insurance + freight) is rm577.51.
the 30% is rm173 + the service charge of rm50 = rm223.
which is right isnt it?

QUOTE(rosicky_return @ Jan 27 2010, 05:29 PM)
Think u can argue with them on the Freight as u only pay GBP 6.95... Declaration is based on the proforma invoice issued by Kitbag... unless Kitbag stated...
*
one thing to note is that UPS charges kitbag varying from different factors such as weight, freight value and maybe time. not sure exactly.
but when you pay kitbag, it's already a discounted shipping price.
but UPS may charge kitbag differently. so that is the amount stated on their airway bill (yours being rm222.30)
your case is really unique being so low in value and weight but so high in shipping charges.

so i think it's wrong to assume that the freight charges will be the same as on the invoice issued by kitbag.
cos they are just giving us value for money.
i do alot of kitbag shipments and havent kena before.

QUOTE(odieseven @ Jan 27 2010, 05:54 PM)
I hope this can help you justify the reason for the given calculated freight. If you go to UPS & calculate the shipping cost from Malaysia to Middleton (kitbag) here is what you get

[attachmentid=1421332]

In short, the freight was calculated based on the normal UPS charge.
*
as shown by odieseven, you can see that the shipment was a time-value shipment.
being guaranteed to arrive by a certain time, thus being more expensive.
most likely yours was similiar.
best thing you can do is complain to kitbag and tell them that you didnt wanna use UPS in the first place.
and now that they did it for you, you kena taxed.

hhmm, all this while i always think freight value is the amount u pay for shipping, but i forgot the fact that the shipping cost provided by kitbag is already a "subsidized" price and the actual price for that type of shipping is far more expensive.

If that's the case, would it be true to say those who use UPS for shipping should stay clear of the RM300 value for shirt alone because as shown by the 2 example above, the freight value will be around RM200?

nimrod2, u can change ur title to taiko tax already laugh.gif
*
aiyoh blush.gif dun say like that la.
i know about this because i kena tax before ma.
last time i damn hero order one shipment rm1k. kena tax so painfully learnt the lesson lor.
and learnt it very well cool2.gif

RM1k?  shocking.gif

Yea, I also kena the last time, sudah insaf.

Added on January 27, 2010, 6:56 pmBTW myalison, the freight value in the tax form varies, depending on how many shirts or rather weight of the items you've bought. It is non advisable to buy more than 3 shirts from kitbag or anywhere because it looks bulky in a single package and has the tendency to exceed the 1kg limit. I've bought 2 shirts before from kitbag and was taxed because the freight value was RM112 when I only paid 11.85 pounds. You bought 4 and it's almost double mine. I wonder whether the freight value is proportional with the quantity of shirt bought?
*
haha yeah la first time order from kitbag got too excited.
actually duno why the freight charges so erratic.
acabugs always ships 4 cheap jerseys around 70gbp never kena tax wan.

That is weird, my past two transactions from Kitbag have details below, 1 of them i paid £11.85 for UPS, another one i paid £6.95 for Airmail but they auto upgraded to UPS for me

1. Package has 4 items, weighted 1kg
    Invoice amount = £45.92 that is FOB = 254.13
    Postage Cost = £11.85 that is INS = 2.54, FRT = 58

Total CIF = 314.68 (exchange rate = 5.5342)

2. Package has 3 items, weighted 0.7kg
    Invoice amount = £71.99 that is FOB = 398.41
Postage Cost = £6.95 (upgrade to UPS) that is INS = 3.98, FRT = 58

Total CIF = 460.39 (exchange rate = 5.5342)

Both order not being caught, TBH, i don't know how they calculate the freight cost though
*
yeah i also noticed that the last few shipments of mine, the freight value is quite low like yours - around rm60.
i also use UPS express shipping option.
so duno why he kena so painful.

yes but it is super super super super super risky. I won't recommend you to do it. Might as well sell the shirt in BNWT and get another plain shirt and customize it.

QUOTE(beckzaidan @ Jan 29 2010, 11:42 AM)
oh, i just want to ask the big brothers here, do you guys know what the real cost of a replica jersey? because, i found a shop thats letting go last season jersey for rm1++ (got itali like schemeichle show a few page back, got some liverpool, barca 3rd kit, palmeiras and etc.), and they say they still make profit. so i wonder how much did we pay for the jersey, and how much did we pay for the sponsorship and brand name...

Maybe the jersey it self cost only rm70, but the brand, the sponsorship, the tax made it to be rm259 at retail.

and new season jersey they selll it at rm220. worldcup adidas team like germany, france, spain already sold at rm220....

hmm.gif  hmm.gif  hmm.gif
*
well there are many factors that come into play when they put pricing for the jersey.
cost of rental for the shop, workers, overheads, shipping, printing, marketing, royalties ......
the list can go on and on. that's why the jerseys are overpriced.

i'd think that the real cost of producing a jersey would be around maybe rm50?
quality control is also there. rejected ones need to be paid for right?
so that is also factored into the cost being charged to the customer.

anyways where did u find the good shop?
they seem to have a good range of jerseys.
u should share share smile.gif
