Rooting in Android is getting superuser privileges (root), to give user more freedom to use the device. It is similar to Apple's product's jail break.

My N1's standby is more than 12 hours. 6 hours standby just use 10%, with WiFi turned ON.

Now. IMHO, the cause of the high power consumption are due to

1) Low or very low telco's signal strength. Any phones also suffers this problem.
2) Background apps. Several apps uses quite some power even in standby mode
3) They leave the screen ON during the standby... Carefull OLED also have 'burnt' problem, similar to old CRT TV/monitor. So make sure the standby/or screen blank is ON.

Remeber, the N1 is Internet connected smartphone. Even my friends also recharge their iPhones 3Gs EVERYDAY>

Others ? smile.gif

IMHO, the bad 'presses or publicity, about N1 is due to the lack of commitments from Google/HTC/TMo to resolve the problem as soon as possible. They let users doing the troubleshooting by themselves.

Yesterday, I tried some testing with N1. smile.gif My purpose is to set my N1 as NORMAL Phone to save some battery life or avoid others to 'exploring' your N1 smile.gif . Possible? Yup.... simple...

To downgrade N1 superphone to normal classic phone
1) Get and install Task Killer from Market

2) Disable data connection via cellular
a) Dial *#*#4636#*#*
b) Phone Information -> Menu -> More -> Disable data connection
Now the N1 WILL NOT connect to Internet

or)
Make new bogus APN and set it as default.

or) Edit the current APN, and change the APN to the bogus APN, example celcom3g -> celcomg3 smile.gif

3) Open Task Killer and KILL launcher...

Now your N1 only can use Dialer/Phone only.. Yes, you cannot access any other menus or apps at all.

If you bored the classic phone mode, reset the N1 to get back to original state; Push Power + vol_down + trackball buttons simultaneously . Don forget to correct the apn setting if you want the data connections (GPRS, EDGE, UMTS, HSDPA) back.

BTW, do it at your own risk

Thank you.

This my ways to conserve battery life.

1) Add Power control widget to the desktop/screen : Refer to my screenshot in page 3 in this thread. You can disable gps, bluetooth, wifi, set brightness, auto-sync, at you home screen. I enable them only when I need it.

2) Delete account ? Gmail or other accounts ?
Menu -> Settings -> Accounts & sync
You can :
1) Uncheck the auto-sync.
2) click the acocunt -> remove account

3) Use task killer. Download them from Market

shahz : IMHO, the most power eater in N1 is the DISPLAY/SCREEN smile.gif So, eventhough you set the min_freq to 500MHz, still nothing to compared to screen's power consumption, but you get more responsive.

ccm: You are correct !! smile.gif the Live Wallpaper is just eye candy... smile.gif If you NOT open your home screen most of the time every 1 minute, then, the live wallpaper not using much power, I think.

Try this

http://androidcommunity.com/forums/f7/swit...lackberry-2641/

N1 can read/import VCF file. So, if your Storm can export contacts in the vcf format, then the task will much easier.

Added on January 27, 2010, 12:05 pmaruja_69 : Sync with google is an OPTION. Up to you whether you want to use it or not. smile.gif

Remember that, the N1 is a Beta product smile.gif... and those 4 countries are the TESTING places. smile.gif

I think N1 will comes into Malaysia sooner or later.... either by official HTC or LYNers smile.gif

Eventhough you can open the N1's ordering form, but, if your delivery address is not in the 4 testing countries, you cannot order it anyway. I already did that on the FIRST or second day of the announcement. smile.gif

BTW, Adnroid apps are small, starting from sevaral kB to several MB only. In this case you may install aroud several hundreds of apps in the built-in storage. Also, the speed for displaying the apps mightl be slowed down too.

You can put the box in your laptop bag, I also bring 2 portable audio dac/amps in 1 box. No problem at the scanning. smile.gif... BTW, the scanning is for the security purposes and monitored by police, not kastam. if I am not wrong.

xavier : If I am not wrong, the battery is already being charged up to 50% of capacity. So I think you can use it straight from the box. Good luck. smile.gif
