i think it's not the tv issue... it's how the tv stretch the 4:3 screen to fit the 16:9 display... there are few ways of doing this...

1. simply stretch the 4:3 input to 16:9 with same ratio through out... so the picture will look a little bit like 'kembang'... ppl will look like short and fat... but u'll still get full screen...

2. stretch the 4:3 input to fit the left and right... but the top is also stretch a bit so that the picture won;t look so 'kembang'... picture looks ok but then u'll lose a little bit of top and bottom picture...

3. stretch the 4:3 input to left and right same as no. 1... but... stretch the left and right more than the middle... so that the picture in the middle of the screen is not so kembang.. but the left and right will be a little bit extra kembang than no 1 above...

so.. when used no. 3... the scrolling text at the left and right will look bigger than middle... nothing to do with the tv itslef... but the option to fit the 4:3 to 16:9... ask the salesman to change to 4:3 with black bars on left and right... sure ok wan..

err... if u can;t understand what i;m trying to say.. later i'll find a picture to show how it's done.. normally it's it the tv user manual... rite now need to go for meeting..

Your reasoning is very good. But there's a problem - if there are black bars on the sides, there's no way to find out if the screen is totally uniform, isn't it?

With you saying this, now I recalled I read a comment in a forum says that the tv will not stretch from the center of the image but start with outer side of the center to keep it less "fat" as possible. This sounds more like a root cause of it.

This tv has few option of viewing mode to choose like 16:9, 4:3, Super Live, Cinema and Native (not sure I missed anything). I noticed using the Super Live will stretch too much on the image so this one might be the culprit for the changing of scrolling text size hmm.gif

Moral of the story, don't trust your SA as they might know much about the tv they are selling than you do (like my SA tongue.gif ) or they just want to push for certain brand of tv with the reason only kept within themselves whistling.gif

Only the 4:3 mode will have black bars on both sides, the rest will stretch the image to filll up the screen

if u want to see whether it's totally uniform or not... then need to use 16:9 source or the type 1 stretch option (should the particular tv has it)...

Hi All

Am considering to purchase 47ZV600E.

However, went to an outlet recently to view the PQ. The salesman played a disk with fast motion / action. Notice the bluriness of the scene. I thought since the said LCD has 200Hz (as per specification outlined in website), it should eliminate motion blur.

Before making final decision on whether to buy this LCD, would like to have inputs from existing owners of ....ZV600E. Any motion blur when you watch SD shows from Astro? Can the 200Hz be switch off / adjusted??

Thanks & Regards

This model is true 100Hz and it creates the 200Hz effect (indicated in website) by using its backlight control technology. You got to pay a premium price for a true 200Hz tv. Motion blur could not be fully eliminated but minimised on LCD TV due to its technology unlike plasma tv but both of these 2 technologies have their pros and cons respectively.

I don't have any problem watching Astro's SD show, especially the football game and in fact it looks much better than my previous 50/60Hz LCD tv. Yes, you could switch off the Clear Scan feature in the user menu.

The taukeh-soh of the shop that I went the other day keep asking me why Toshiba, choose Samsung la...  Later I found out they actually got Toshiba LCD on display but located at the secluded corner.  I think Samsung must be very aggressive in pushing their product.

So far I'm keeping my eyes on ZV series unless the Pana latest model in Mar is better.

wow...i hv been offline for weeks, and now this tjread becomes 3 pages liao....

anyhow, from where u got the news that Pana has new models in Mar? I am hoping that they have PY800 equal quality. I really like this model in my sis house.

Just ordered a 42zv500 for my gf's dad from hlk at 3450. Saw a display unit at best denki, so far it seems to be the best LCD of it's price range out there. The toopid SA at hlk was trying to convince me that the toshiba's black levels is better than any plasma out there. Got screwed by me lol. Will report back when I get the tv tmr

Good choic bro rclxms.gif . Its black level is not as good as those in plasma tv but good enough for normal consumers like us. You won't regret with its features and awesome PQ, along with its reasonable pricing, big bang for your bucks thumbup.gif
