QUOTE(defectivelasagna @ Jan 8 2010, 10:25 PM) Parts are OEM Intel, Nvidia, ATI, Quanta, Samsung, Kingston, Hynix, Foxconn, WD, Seagate and too amny more.. dont bother.. build and design? well thats where the brand comes in .. For me i'd be worry on how to take care of it.. Most cases i see ppl blame the brand even when the ram, cpu, gpu, ram, hdd fails.. its not the fault of the brand.. because those are OEM parts.. |

most acers utilize AMD, so overgaming causes heat problems. i only game less than 3 hours a day, and i dont ven use a cooler. IMO, it's how you interpret "laptop gaming" as viable

plus, this thing could come in short, and we dont have a real 5470 benchmark, which is considered the weakest GPU in 5xxx mobile series |

HD5470 is merely a HD4570 on steroid... I'm under the impression that HD5470 is better than HD4670 in that it has DirectX11 and lower power consumption while the latter doesn't. Pls correct me if i'm wrong. |

HD5650 would be around HD4650 - HD4670 LoL in a benchmark.. I think it would be over 4670 though..

i can guarantee u that even in DX11 games, HD4670 will still perform better than HD5470, as in the frames per second...
HD5470 has only 80SP, which is the same as HD4570.... but of course, since HD5470 is made in 40nm, the core clock will be slightly higher... with the option to go with GDDR5, which provides twice the bandwidth of GDDR3, that's wat make HD5470 to be a HD4570 on steroid... HD4670 has 320SP by comparison... anyway, if u ask me, unless the HD5470 goes with GDDR5, i dun see the harm of sticking to HD4570... This post has been edited by astria: Jan 10 2010, 03:14 PM |

QUOTE(verdangilte @ Jan 12 2010, 05:31 PM) so ? Based on the HD5470's specifications, I'd say it will be even faster than the HD4570, though by how much, I can't honestly say. It has faster clocks and the same number of stream processors as the HD4570, not to mention native DX11 support. Which means this is an overall better unit than the Studio 15.means if choose this laptop for gaming will be wasting money since is g card are no good enough ?? or in orther words , should go for dell studio 15 which with 4570 ?? QUOTE(LokiD.d.G @ Jan 13 2010, 11:57 AM) Technically, people do tend to "buy" the warranty too, so to speak. while acer warranty is standard, and when we buy acer's we wont expect much more from their warranty then their awesome spec...For instance, if the Acer being discussed here were to be sold for RM2500 albeit with no warranty, would you make the purchase? Dell is different as one purchase the item, would expect exceptional support and service. Support as being the point for buying a Dell, for Acer its warranty is all about insurance for the hardware, dont you agree? |

the weird thing is i have a friend who dropped his 6935g and i forgot what didnt work.. Highpoint Service exchanged the parts and back to normal LoL.. I wonder what is that? Do they include accidental damage? He did told the manager he dropped it by accident.. In 3 days its back new even replaced the damaged case..
Im guessing the manager just tried to please him.. as i recall acer extended warranty doesnt have accidental damage covered.. But they did state Parts and Labour warranty.. So maybe the service centre claimed it as "normal damage" lol.. This post has been edited by Eugene91: Jan 13 2010, 12:16 PM |

Support as being the point for buying a Dell, for Acer its warranty is all about insurance for the hardware, dont you agree? I remember reading an article on a study done on the amount of profit made by allowing customers to extend their warranty, at a price. Cant recall the exact figures, or the article in question, but I think that it concluded manufacturers such as Dell actually gained most of their revenue from said extended warranty sales. |

hi guyz... im sure dat Acer Aspire 5740G-524G50 will be on sale starting from monday officially... bt some acer outlets already start selling it... about Acer Aspire AS5740G-6979, im too hunting for it... bt according to acer, this model might nt available in malaysia... singapore maybe yes... bt currently they bringing in Acer Aspire 5740G-524G50 to malaysia, in US, they start selling AS5740G-6979 on 17 january.... and expected selling price in malaysia will b higher a bit...and according to notebookcheck, the performance of 5470 gona be as 4570... which gonna be killer for studio 15... so 5740G-524G50 will be very worth it for RM2999...

My bro just got a unit of this laptop for his studies. I would say worth the money! Its fast and quality seems ok to me (well there's a lot of plastic being stick so I don't really know..). But I'm only worried the surface gets scratches easily.

yea there's no replacement for C2D.
C2D is still mainstream product of Intel Technologies. However there's another new mainstream product which on the market we called i5 in mid-end specification. Nowadays Intel was on the path spreading i5 among the markets and able to distribute out better processor and less power consumption processor, core i5 with reasonable and affordable price. Meanwhile, fellows will follow the trend and the strategy applied from Intel Technologies. Intel Core 2 Duo will not be replaced. Instead of you writing C2D will be replaced, I would kindly and strongly recommended and advise you to speak in this way: Intel Core i5 is going to take down the mainstream market now. In final words, Product won't be replaced, unless Market. |

I don't think the marketing terms (or gimmicks) used by Intel is important (or must be strictly adhered to) over here in an IT savvy forum.

I guess he doesn't know what Arrandale processors has to offer.. For me why would I choose Arrandale Core i5 and Core i7 rather than a Core 2 Duo 2.8GHz or 2.93GHz or 3.06GHz .. Because of the Turbo Boost, Hyper Threading Technology and 32nm processor

Btw the Arrandale TDP includes the integrated GPU TDP also. |

I'm going to get either this one or another 4740G in the mid of February. |

Some say Acer always have hardware failure, especially hard disk and optical drive. Some say they are regret paying extra money for extra warranty because of never use it.
So, which side should I trust. But I have to say, buying any electronic hardware or even car in our life is all are depend on your luck. |

Hey! , Does anyone know wht is the different between Intel core 2 duo P8700 and Intel i5 520m processor. If lets said more into gaming, which give better performance? or most likely the same?

If lets said more into gaming, which give better performance? or most likely the same? turbo boost and hyperthreadingclock by clock, i5 should be faster by 10-20% and also, if the program only support one core, i5 520M can overclock its one core to 2.9ghz while p8700 would still only 2.5ghz gaming wise, most likely almost the same with slight advantage with i5 though for most games, gpu would be the bottleneck... QUOTE(oec88 @ Jan 24 2010, 03:02 PM) Yeah, but then the problem is the price tag. ya i'm waiting for all to come out before making a decisionAcer seems very cheap in all terms, I'm just worry about the reliability and durability. I'm going to get either this one or another 4740G in the mid of February. QUOTE(oec88 @ Jan 24 2010, 03:49 PM) Some say Acer always have hardware failure, especially hard disk and optical drive. Acer only buys and use them lol..So, which side should I trust. But I have to say, buying any electronic hardware or even car in our life is all are depend on your luck. Harddisk(WD, Seagate as far as i know acer uses) and Optical Drive(LG, Pioneer.. i forgot the rest).. Brand doesnt really matter in terms of hardware.. but in terms of service and support yes.. |

Just like lee posted before...GTX260M is way,way higher than 310M...310M can consider as low-end card...even 9600M GT pawned it big time...

Acer Aspire 5740G-524G50. You can play Dragon Age Origins on High Graphics. So far no lag or anything. but i think there is still more testing to be done

QUOTE(johnyp91 @ Feb 3 2010, 09:52 AM) Acer Aspire 5740G-524G50. You can play Dragon Age Origins on High Graphics. So far no lag or anything. but i think there is still more testing to be done Wait till more enemies appear on the screen. Like in Redcliffe.Even my quad core PC with a HD4870 lagged then... but that was with 8xAA I think. |

Just got myself this baby today.
Really happy with the performance, and the screen color is just nice, some kind of light blue-ish, looks fresh. What I like about this laptop is the numpad on the keyboard. If I'm not mistaken, seldom laptop come with numpad together with the keyboard. |

Its not like that, for any performance notebook ,you should expect some heat from it,in term of gaming performance, the dell studio 15 would have similar performance since the ATi HD5470 is just a rebranded from ATi HD4570... |

Its not a mere rebadge; HD5470 support DX11 (although it doesn't matter much because its entry level) and have higher core clock, 750MHz vs 680MHz on HD4570. The memory clock so far is the same, which is 800MHz DDR3 although it could support GDDR5 memory but I doubt any manufacturer will used it to save costs |

QUOTE(shogunkeron @ Feb 9 2010, 04:08 PM) so conclusion , is tis lappy really worth the price we throw to it??? Yes, absolutely! look like i'm the another ppl to buy tis thing =.=' This laptop is a gem to me, well at least after 2 weeks of using it. Really stoked at how responsive a.k.a fast it is, especially when I have photoshop, winamp, microsoft word/powerpoint, and downloads running simultaneously, all at the same time. Heatwise, doesn't get warm enough to burn my palm or fingers. I consider this a really "cold" lappie well at least after the huge leap of upgrade that i had from my previous one....that was bad, stuffed up badly on the hardware etc but that's another story...tee hee . Gaming...I reckon, i've got a reputation as a casual one, not hardcore. I play some not-so-demanding games such as machinarium, chrysis, and kung fu panda. They display pretty mint on the 5740..havent got any problem with it so far, my only issue is that the sounds system isn't as loud as i thought it would be when i hv the headphones one, but delivers nicely when the lappie's speakers are turned on. Overall, pretty SATISFIED with this baby |

Guys, what about the Asus A42JR, the specs are nearly the same as the acer aspire 5470g. Based on the asus malaysia website,
http://my.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=CHUAkgEZmzf52Pai can get i5 Processor 520M/430M : 2.4 GHz - 2.26 GHz, with Turbo Boost up to 2.93/2.53 GH ATI Mobility™ Radeon® HD 5470 1G DDR3 VRAM so what do you guys think? |

Lol, its not overclocking graphci, CPU and ram those Did you use advance power option?? That one can reduce how much CPU you going to use for each Power Option which why Power Saver is called Power Saver because it uses only like 10% of processing power which will consume less battery You can also manage other things in advance power option |

benchmarked. unless your laptop utilize ddr5, 5470 will not surpass 4570, and compared to 4570, it is weaker by 9%
still for those who want decent multimedia, non-gaming or perhaps use designing, this is great for your budget |

computers/notebooks in Malaysia has no tax.... one of the few tax breaks in Mal..... 899 usd... so it's approx RM100 to RM150 more (with lesser HDD) for 5650 instead of 5470 in Mal.

Well, roughly speaking, if you are not into hrdcore gaming, like playing all games in superhigh defination and need fast frame skip.. 5470 is more than enuf

5470 (they cut down a lot of stream processors on the chip) with very low power (say 8w compared to 5650's roughly 20-30w) requirement/usage.... 5000 series functions like Eyefinity, encoding, decoding...etc are kept.
High res/high def/high 3d algorithm should be done on a desktop anyways This post has been edited by BeastX: Mar 2 2010, 05:16 PM |

Before you buy this laptop, you should know that the graphic will not give you full pleasure in gaming like having high FPS in game or support high end game. Bear in mind, 5470 is a entry or low end card. If you would like to have good gaming performance like I said above, get 5650 above, 5770 would be better. If there's 5800 series, then it will be even better.
There goes the same with GeForce series, you should do research more before you buy. Like now I'm having this laptop, compare to my desktop I use 1280x1024 with 75Hz screen refresh rate on my Call of Duty 4, I have 125FPS all the time in the multiplayer game, the graphic card is GeForce 8800GT, is consider as high end card in GeForce 8000 series, of course there are other high end card such as 8800 Ultra or 8800GTX. While for my laptop, although 5470 has new technology and it's the latest card, I only able to get 125FPS at all time in 640x480 resolution. So, think about it. Do not expect good gaming experience on this laptop, this is just a bargain for those who need a high performance laptop and just so-so in gaming. |

Its not really 500GB, since the 1GB interpretation is different for marketing and computer. Computer wise, 500GB is 465GB while the lost 15GB most likely for its hidden recovery partition.

QUOTE(MojA_VieW @ Mar 7 2010, 10:47 PM) Well, I've tried opening many applications at once (word, photoshop, internet browser, a game, etc) and it doesn't hang or show signs of hanging. It really is quite stupid to run so many applications when we only constantly use one or 2 maybe 3 at most. I do not comprehend why some people can 'abuse' their laptop by running hundreds of things at once. Respect your notebook and it will serve you for a long time to come.Btw, if there were any hanging issues with 5740, it would have been up here on the forum such as the 4740? |

Dell Studio 15 was selling like hot cake with it's impressive graphic performance after being updated to HD4570... but this yr with the same performance, HD5470 really lacks performance needed to run games well... i guess Alien vs Predator should be a pretty good benchmark... but well, it's all probably juz AMD's marketing need, else they would upset those who are using HD3650/HD3670... |

Just an update on Eyefinity on the 5470 GC .... it appears I can only run 2 displays only at a time, not 3 as I expected (2 external + 1 lappy).... All 3 are recognized, but one has to be disable for the other 2 to run. Could be just software drivers and a new one could get 3 working. It'll be a disappointment is it is hardware implimentation for only 2 displays.

that 1.5" probably already cost rm200 at the minimum, to Acer, they talk abt surface area, not diagonal length...
RAM probably rm100 (since they do tray order, so it's cheaper) GPU + CPU for sure more than rm200... |

Anyone know it is got any 3rd party software to control this graphic card fan speed?
cause i found that whenever the gc full load , the fan speed still remains at 30%....although the gc temperature is going to 70 degree. |

Well, what we we can say there are a lot off different products in the market. You can hear that Acer is cheap with high spec provide but quality bad~But they did some of the Acer user use it without any complain. Just like there are people say that ATI GPU is provide with high performance in a low price then Nvidia GPU. They say that ATI is bad in quality and Nvidia is good.....I think it's depends your luck....nothing can be perfect... Just get which suitable your choice and your budget. If you want the best then don't complain about the price, pay more and you should get the better |

Sharing Experience: After a day of soldering/experimenting/updating....
Should you require a 2hd hdd and not your DVD-ROM with your 5740G get a caddy (pic below) and update to the bios 1.16 and 1.22 (not 1.09 or I presume, 1.10). Any bios other than 1.16 will cause your notebook to hang on start-up. The bios is not perfect, you cannot (F12) select to boot to the 2nd drive or have it as a primary boot drive, but it works as a secondary drive, in which I hope it can still hot-plug (still needs to test). I believe Raid is not possible.... a.t.m? (bios or chipset limitation?....) ![]() This post has been edited by BeastX: Jul 5 2010, 07:38 PM |
