Empire,
That is great. I like the title. I knew you will come up with some thing good. It suggest songs all over the world. I am sure the box office already had this title in their program. Once I make myself available, I can start booking the ticket smile.gif

Subang,
You indicated you are going. Let's organise this a bit. I dont want to end up sitting separately again. wink.gif

Oneperson,
This is one show you should not miss. Firstly if you have not been to a philharmonic concert hall this you be your first experience. I had mine when I went to watch mei mei early this year and was very impressed. Second Empire is the only professional (full time musician) in this thread. It would be nice get to know him and support him and his band. Since he is a pro, he had all the time to train music. That is why he knows so many instruments.

la Bella,
I did say I will "ajak" for the next concert of this nature. It would be nice if you can join us.
*
Faceless bru ... i sure go 1. Just how many only and hopefully not crashing wit my plans goin to Xian wit Mei mei. Most probably
goin on the 2nd week of Dec for 5days. Yet to confirm 100% as the nature of my work can be really unpredictable one.

Empire : pls let us know when u performance on so tat we can get the BOX seat. Prefer to get Box A or F ... rclxm9.gif
ur show happy hour time or nite one?
If we can get more than 8 pax we can get another 10% discount for block booking and another 10% wit my card if
i can still remember. So we get 20% .. must b early birds lor.

This time will b free & easy.... we can drink more than 1 pint b4 the show... hahahaha.

Faceless...thanks for the support. MPO told us they want something that's different and not classical so that the audience can have more variety to enjoy.

Bru : if u let me watch ur rehearsal ... i will bring along my cam and put some clips out to here for those who cannot make it upon
ur approval. laugh.gif icon_rolleyes.gif

I have got a very badly informed box office staff. They cant tell me the performance for that night. Even when I asked if it was "Around the World", they cant confirm. I had been put on hold so long and they still cant tell me. They are going to call me back. Anyway I guess we will start booking when Empire tells us to. Maybe they are still in the process of finalisng the program.

It had always been a rush for most people. The irony is they call this the Jam Buster. They had used lines like, "Why get caught in traffic jam? Join us for the MPO Happy Hour". The problem is people who dont work near KLCC will have to beat the jam to get there. biggrin.gif

la Bella,
We will meet at the queue to get in the Box A. If I remember right, we had to get in 15 minutes before the concert. So we will meet at 6:15pm. I will confirm the time again after looking at the ticket on when we should enter the concert. Since this is not your first time at MPO, you should know what I am talking about.
*
dun worry... ppl like me will come early b4 the jam begins and perhaps b tipsy b4 the show... LOL rclxm9.gif

QUOTE(empire @ Nov 14 2010, 11:39 AM)
subangman...my Guzheng player needs to change the entire set of 21 nylon strings. What brand is good...and where to buy? How much per set?
*
Dunhuang Type B... its a professional set. I got Mei-mei's one from Sound of Asia; US . Carol charged me ..US$45/set of 21. the bass ones
really BIG and tok-kong. .... + postage US$13.95; will arrived less than 10 calender days.
I've been to so many stores around in Klang valley ... no chance; some even haven't heard of it ... SHAME !
Even Singapore Eason dun carry it. http://www.eason.com.sg/products/pluck_access/mz13-33.jsp
I still got a brand new set of Scarlet Bird Zhuque Professional strings ... US$59.60/set.... intend to put into mei-mei's 4th guzheng...
but if u really need it ... I can pass to u. Honestly I dun know how it sounds..... but heard its pretty good.

places for good strings.

1. http://www.sogoeo.com/folk-musical-strings...4efj6i3ro22a5a1

2. http://soundofasia.com/accessories.html .... apparently she also out of stock.... I have ordered 2 sets from Dunhuang Shanghai.... next yr
only arrives to KampungKUL.... 1 set for brudder faceless.

--------------------------------- else if u cannot tahan get the Dunhuang normal ones ...

1. Go to the Pudu area...(behind the market ... near the carpark area) same row with the famous Thai temple
there is a chinese instrument shop...only one there only.... with lots of other goodies. better than lots of places i've been so far.

2. Alan place lor.... i dropped in there last week to look see look see wats new stuff he got..... nothin !

3. SS2 "Dunhuang" .

4. Sunway mentari.

5. Euphony .

if u intend to change them b4 concert i advise u pls do it ASAP... need some time to let the strings to 'open sound' else she
needs lots of practice.

...................... honestly most of the stores in SEA selling exoctic musical instruments sux; min. capital max profit only.

how often u see a full concerto harp ? u seen any yani sax around in MY ? seen any jade Dizi ?

I intend to buy a highly praise Scarlet Bird #10B from USA and ship back to Kampung by FedEx..lucky the cost of shipment less than US$200/=.

at present only 3sets of SB #10B been produced ... 1 set is in Shanghai... became shop billboard while 2 are in USA. doh.gif ...
soon its going to b mei-mei's if she gives me the grenn lights.

to get one... must order thru authorised dealers and the waiting list is 4-6mths.... !so i choose the best and the easiest way !

I have restringed my Scarlet bird after one year. then I have put on Yuesheng strings and my bird sounds muffle and muddled after a half year.
It depend on the string brand how long they are lasting. Yuesheng strings don't brake fast but the got very fast a muffled sound, and the go out of tune the first weeks very quickly.
If you want bright, loud and clear strings, wich are also have a punchy bass and are soft to bend, I can recommend Scarlet Bird Professional strings.

I recommend to replace the yuesheng strings, since they don't have a good sound and they are hard to bend. When you change the strings with a better brand You will hear the difference immediatly.

Wow...thx Subangman for your very detailed explanation. I dont think my band member's Guzheng need expensive strings for our concert on 8 Dec in MPO concert hall.

I'll see what other options there are on-line.
*
actually they are not really expansive about as about RM10/string .... normal ones RM5 to 6 each alridi. The problem they are very rare.

online purchase u need to rush up quickly... i got another option... mei-mei's teacher going to singapore on wed... i can get him to
get some for u provided u know wat u after mate.

its' adviseable to change the entire set of strings .... tat's why i normally got a spare set @ home in case mei-mei needs it.

empire u free tmw afternoon?

Empire,
I think buying online is too much of a rush at the moment. I think you are better of using the existing stock that Subang has. There is also the following problem to deal with.

When I purchased my guzheng it was untuned. I brought it to my teacher. He said you can have it in two weeks. Very puzzled with his statement, I asked "does it takes two weeks to tune a guzheng?". He said, "new string under tension, you should know since you played the guitar." Once a string is pulled to the right tension, it will loose tension again as a new string. It need constant playing & tuning for two to three weeks to "season" up.
*
tat's wat the say 'open sound' ... but anyway if u really need it i can pass them to u.... i think by then u are the only person having these set
of strings in KampungKUL as Zhuque Xian is a rare name in SEA and these set only goes with their high ends guzheng only.

after i put in the Dunhuang Type B into mei-mei's guzheng then only her teacher realised tat there are 3 type of strings produced by Dunhuang
.... tis ah pek not a guzheng player knows more than dealers & teachers ...... hmm.gif

just like the old kungfu times..... when ones kungfu not really good but with the aid with a good sword things can be changed !{mei mei} flex.gif

but when a good swordman got a good sword things will be excellent {shanghai angels}..... just a few bucks more lar... not enough for Faceless &
myself to quench our thirst if u take up the tap...... right faceless bru ! thumbup.gif LOL!

i need to test my AKG C411 and Barcus Berry 4000 lar so tat if the DIY is good i make one too .. then the Barcus berry stay @ home with the piano
or the future harp.... another rare gem i found.

C411 will pair with the DIY for the guzheng or cello when requires... or pass to the Yangqin gal when she needs it.

Great! How the Shanghai Angels had become swordwomen. rclxms.gif Hey, the string is only a scarbard lah. tongue.gif The guzheng is the sword. You know the cheap metal sword the normal soilder during the manchurian rule uses. Imagine carrying one of those sword using the scarbard of the seven star sword. biggrin.gif As they say in mayalsia "tak boleh tak apa, gaya mesti ada".

So when you trying our the "pickup". I really want to see the DIY that Empire has and how it measure against the Berries.  drool.gif

Flore, I dont play the yangqin.
*
faceless .. the strings and bridges of the guzheng cannot be consider as scarbard lar... the are in fact part of the whole sword.
the scarbard is the kaki (stand)for the guzheng.... laugh.gif

i was talking our 'friend' the guzheng master ... in fact the bridges do make a hugh impact when producing a good sound.
He normally travels with a set personalised custom made bridges. Good guzheng or normal guzheng doesn't bother him much.
He only put in his bridges and performs.... tat's another thing i'm aimming to hit next... hahaha. Scouting for ivory bridges
just like a koto. ....mayb lucky to find it from Bang kok... cannot afford to get it from Japun.......LOL!

I am worse than a hardcore fan !

Hi Everyone,

May I know, is RM2,500 for "Shanghai Dunhuang African Sandalwood 21# Guzheng" with product code 696D expensive? It is a brand new one and recommended by my teacher. Do you know the market price? Thank You
*
.... ok u wan to hear the ugly truth .here it goes. Kind of extravagant; try to nego down say to RM2,000/= else ask the dealer
to give u a 3 piece kaki on top of the normal 2set kaki.

Sound of asia only selling US$398 + $180 FedEx < RM1,800/=
http://soundofasia.com/duafsagu69.html

else go to Singapore Eason :-
http://www.eason.com.sg/products/guzheng/tbz20.jsp < RM1,600/=.. take bus or drive down also cost less than RM2,000/=

but if ur teacher is sellin the guzheng to u then its entirely the investment of a relationship between the teacher wit u.
.......... I'm not capable to judge it; no comments.
