Subang,
I guess you will still go ahead and try the high end strings anyway. I think you will still adopt  the "belum cuba belum tahu" appraoch to this matter.

Wow, very well said. Only another ah pek can understand ah pek  nod.gif

The other issue is the parents will be worried sick if they learn of such thing. To solve the problem let them tag along  tongue.gif

Subang,
You got nobody in your office that can speak mandrin meh? I thought you done enough business in china to know mandrin. I had a weird way with mandrin. When I hear mandrin I must see the chinese character in my brian. By the time I can picture the character, the speaker would had spoken one paragraph long sad.gif

Carol from Sounds of China is a nice lady and very professional. I almost purchase my guzheng from her. My main consideration was getting the cheapest set because it may end up being a furniture. Her cheapest set was USD300 but transportation cost was USD550. It does not make sense to buy a set like this unless I was there for a visit which I intended to. I ended up buying from Macau because my sister wanted to tour Macau. Furthermore touring USA does not interest me. I am more in favour to go to the lands where dragons roam (I am a weird banana).

I still have not decided to buy a higher end guzheng if I did I will likely get a custome made Scarlett Bird from Carol. As it is now I am playing like I have no eyes. Cassie please comment. Each time I am in situation like this your comments lighted the way.

I dont have home minister like you but it does not mean I got big VISA. I have Empress Dowager, wor. I can get a lot of nag nag nag.
*
my personal things and business work no mix one.. i won't ask my PA to get info unless i am can't or not free to do it.
I thought i can managed; keah kiang.. end up kaput.

She told me she got 2 new arrived #10A and another 2 #10 in her shop now... drool.gif drool.gif

weird banana... same here... mayb me & my gals been living in kaw loh place for too long... not really even keen to go back for tour... i prefer 3rd world countries... my gals different. *sigh*

Dun worry Empress Cixi likes to have her cup of tea and grand kids.... hahahaha.

Hello, i learnt guzheng in JB.
Im currently in Grade 7 and i moved up to Subang Jaya to further my studies.
I would like to ask whether any of you knows where to learn guzheng with an experienced teacher?
I've heard of CCMA in Mentari Court, Bandaran Sunway and Dunhuang Music Academy in SS2, PJ.
Anyone knows which one is better? smile.gif
*
hmm.gif ur Grade 7 is from which syllabus ?

how u define or classify that u r in Grade 7 ?

U got it right .. CCMA is in mentari and "Dunhuang Malaysia" is in SS2.

which is better ... whistling.gif how many strings are ur guzheng and it's made of steel or nylon?

Last year i passed my Grade 6 with merit. Im currently learning Grade 7.
Is in Central Conservatory of Music, Beijing, China's syllabus.
Mine is 21strings, but im not very sure is steel or nylon.
Do you have any teacher to recommend with is near subang area?
*
Ok.. sori i couldn't managed to reply earlier as I was away from KampungKUL.

Since u cleared ur Grade 6 with CCOM then u should forget about SS2 "Dunhuang" as they use 23 steel strings... exactly like the kapok guitar steel strings.

Ur is a 21 nylon coated steel strings... more mellow than the steel{veri sharp pitch}.

So when u will be in Klang valley PM me. I can recommand my daughter's sifu to u .

r u a student studin somewhere near Subang ?

Subang,
Your daughters performing in the talent competion? I have a guzheng feista after class. One of those informal eating session at cheap roadside food. They use to do it after class every week. Very soon it just fell out of fashion. My teacher kinda miss the pig out session and decided to do it. He is calling some old students to make it look like a reunion. Looks like I will have to give supporting your daughters a miss.

Hi, Subang man. Mine is 21 strings nylon. Because i've complete my 6grades in CCOM, i know that Dunhuang doesnt offer that syllabus.
Im a student in Subang, taylors. Therefore, transportation might be a problem for me to travel around but im still very keen to continue my guzheng.

Alright, can you give me your daughter's sifu's contact number? I'll pm you if im at Klang Valley.
Do you know any teachers who offer house teaching? Which means they come to our place to teach?
Thank you so much for your reply.
If you're willing to give me the teacher's number, email me. Thanks alot smile.gif

DunHuang Malaysia SS2 got their own syllabus ... but not really affiliated with the DCMA;(DUNHUANG CHINESE MUSIC ASSOCIATION) or Shanghai Conservatory of Music.

Correct me if I got the wrong info... as they using the 23strings.

So u r on my turf now or going to b there soon ?

He normally teaches from a music center in Taipan Subang..nearby lar. but if u like him to go to ur place i need to check with him.

he used to come to my house teaching my daughter but I perfer the class conducted @ the center since my gal having another class (her latin right after the guzheng class)... easier for her and myself as well ...both inside the same building.

Btw; there is one also @ SS15 near to Maybank .

Subang,
I am very lazy to read through a string of chinese text. I only saw the big texts saying 9 month 5 day. So you will be at Shaw Parade Sat 4 Sep from 13:00 to 18:00? I can make it on 4 Sep. Since it up 18:00, I will most likely drop in on Sunday after my makan session too. I am not sure what time that will be but lunch-do cant go into 18:00. Can have dinner already lor.

Here is one poem. The other one still a challenge translating.
夜筝
紫袖红弦明月中,自弹自感暗低容。
弦凝指咽声停处,别有深情一万重。
This is the poem on mei mei guzheng at the "head". The other stuff written there is the author signature. It says something like Bai Ju Yi, a poet of the Tang dynasty. 夜筝the title is probably not carved into the guzheng. It was not carved in for mine.

My translation
Purple sleeve and red strings in the midst of a bright moonlight.
Strumming in solitude, I felt an inclination to be filled with obscurity
The sounds from the pavilion deep within transfer through the fingers into the strings
To magnify the deep emotions that weight heavily liken to 10 thousand-fold.

Cassie,
The other key to playing with feelings is to be in the right environment. Go take your guzheng out in the open sky. Just outside you house will do. You dont have to go to rivers and lakes like what I done. Perhaps you can redo MJ's "Thriller" in our fullmoon setting biggrin.gif Furthermore we have many things roaming this season tongue.gif
*
bru.. thx for ur hardship translating the mandarin poem. THANK YOU again.

Wisma Shaw is on tis Sat & Sun. 28th August & 29 August ...........2pm to 6pm.

Klang Parade is on 5th Sept 2010.

------------- waaaahhhh under open sky full moon plucking guzheng wat a good suggestion rclxms.gif ... u wan nice Pur-E tea and mooncake as well? thumbup.gif

How did mei mei fair for both the competition?
*
The Sunday after we met was the most hectic one but anyway Mei mei tied with the YangQin guy 钟音翔 扬琴 乡村抒怀; Cert. + Hamper + RM100.

The winner there was 王仙福 中阮 睡莲
and 1st runners up 颜文庆 琵琶 十面埋伏

basically she just hopped into the car from Times Square and completed her guZheng competition within 10mins and back to Times Square again for her next competition.

That day i really hope u were there as she didn't even tune her guzheng... and I dun know how as well. She just bing bing bong and left.. rclxub.gif

For Klang Parade; 16 solo chinese instrument contestants; some from Shaw parade competition fellas also took part.... she pocketed another RM300 + hamper + cert.

For the group there were 7 teams .. quite impressed with them; overall not bad.

Got some clips of her performance but paiseh to put it here.

Faceless,
Apparently condition © 参赛者可安排一名同伴作伴奏让演奏更丰富。
Participants can arrange a companion for playing accompaniment to richer; thus he walked free ... but he is good in YangQin.

Tat guy playin the pipa is good too. He was playin a G8 above pipa song . (十面埋伏)

IF you like to watch the clips pls let me know or I can post it here.

Empire : Yeah lor... weekend I am worse than my driver... where at least he got paid for driving.
Waking up early morning and normally my gals time set often challenge my driving skills and knowledge towards all the detours whenever there is traffic jam in KL one.

That morning I've only 15min to ferry them from Subang Jaya to Times Square..... luckily it was early sunday morning... so not tat bad lor and i make it without any delay.

This weekend I'll b in KLPac for my son cello thingy... another rclxub.gif 12pm to 2pm Sentul KLPac ... 3pm to 5pm Bandar Puturi Puchong- modern Ballroom... and this will b my routine for awhile every Sun. sweat.gif sweat.gif sweat.gif

Empire,
You band is playing, I will do my best to support. Let me know when the date is firm up. I will try to reschedule myself for it.

Subang,
Here is the poem on mei mei guzheng. That is only part of the poem. There 3 lines above it and six line below it. For now I only manage to translate what is on the guzheng. I am not too sure of the first sentence here. It seems to me like it is trying to related to the Ming Dynasty.

甲明银得勒,柱触玉玲珑。
猿苦啼嫌月,莺娇语(讠尼)风。
移愁来手底,送恨入弦中。
赵瑟清相似,胡琴闹不同。
慢弹回断雁,急奏转飞蓬。

Translation
The first Ming silver piece gets a strap
The pillars can stir up an exquisite touch
The ape resentfully weeps to the moon
The tender warblber * cries into the winds
Gloominess makes it way to the finger tips
Transferring the heart felt hatred to the strings
With the clarity of tone that match the Zhou Se*
And incomparable to the volume of the Huqin*
Its slow rebound could snap at the tuning pegs*
A hasty play produces specs of dusk.
Notes
Warbler is the burung kakak tua.
Se is a standing instrument. It looks like the guzheng except it is fretted. Zhou must be the place that is famous for Se.
Huqin is a type of Erhu. It is most likely noted for its loudness.
The tuning pegs of the Huqin are called goose leg 雁足
