Hi, I'm currently studying in Australia, I'm going to graduate at the end of this year but my student visa only expires in the middle of next year.

1. Can i apply for a TR after i graduate even if my student visa has not expired?

2. I can only apply for a TR if i study 2 full years in Australia right? Any less then that and i can't, is that right?

3. Also, I can only apply for a TR if i manage to get a job right? i need the employer to extend it am i right?

4. I can only apply for my PR after i get a TR and a job to improve my chances right?

Thanks very much guys. Really appreciate it. smile.gif

Hi guys, i need some information here.

I want to do Australian Degree Program at Inti@Nilai. The problem is they only have 2+2 option.

In order for me to get the 1+3 option, i would have to contact any Australian Universities that i prefer to go and ask them whether if i can enter in the 2nd year of my Australian Degree program.

So, is this the right path ? And which is the best/good university for engineering in Australia ?

Thanks. icon_rolleyes.gif

Has anyone taken FOUNDATION courses in Australia?
Hows the courses like compared with O, A Levels?

Unfortunately it seems my son's science subjects aren't great in UEC/SPM year.

One path is to go through the Foundation courses in Oz.

Anyone here done that?

Thanks

Thanks alot for the reply. It really helped. Just wondering, if i manage to secure a job and i have enough points to apply for a pr, what are the chances of me getting a pr?

Also, basically the sole purpose of a TR is just an extension of your visa to let you stay on for a little longer to either get a job, or to just enjoy a while longer before you go back to your home country right? Thanks.

You can also check out the Yr 12 high school course, in addition to the foundation courses. I guess it depends on the Uni courses he will be applying to after that. MUFY is not bad, and that's run by Monash College in Melbourne CBD.

Oh. My parents told me to study at least my foundation here and then go so would be easier.

a 2+2 twinning programme is NOT a foundation.....you will need to have a recognised pre-u to enter such a programme....

your parents are likely misinformed.......

I mean they told me to do my "foundation in science" and then go overseas.

But i prefer twinning program like the American Degree / Australian degree.

Still trying to figure out the increasing popularity of Foundation in Science. I still think SAM and AUSMAT would be better pre-U courses, if one is Aus-bound.

A Level or IB would not be a poor choice if one could afford the extra time, which would be 100% unless one accelerated their A Levels.

Although, Australian Pre-Us are after all more in line with Australian schooling than primarily international Pre-Us, and whether or not this is advantageous for an Australian university education, they would do the job as TER requirements for most courses aren't that high.

there is no such thing as an 'australian degree programme' at inti....

since you mentioned engineering, there is NO twinning arrangement between inti and any aussie uni.....

thus, it sounds like credit transfer, and that is a big no-no.........you can well be left hanging and dry....

your parents' intention for you to do 'foundation' and go is exactly direct entry into aussie unis.....

i sense a severe case on lack of understanding.....which is worrying for someone contemplating engineering....

For engineering Degree, it is better to take full course in 1 uni because the board of engineer may nt recognise twining Degree when u apply for professional engineer, u should check the professional body before u go

Anyone with experience can pls fill in the blanks for budgeting
per week

a) Accomodation
b) Food
c) Transport
d) Communications- H/p
e) Utilities- Electricty, Internet
f)  Others  eg entertainment, clothing,etc
*
hey there,

i can do for sydney. i mean eastern suburbs including kensington, kingsford, neighbouring area of unsw.

accommodation=$400-450 per week for a unit that has 2 bedrooms.
food=$50 if you cook and only eat outside twice per week.
transport=for short distance (mybus1 card) is $16.80 for 10 trips. for longer distance (mybus2) is about $28 for 10 trips.
communications=it depends on what plan do you use. i'm using vodafone $49 per month.
utilities= for electricity is about $25per week and internet $8 per week.
entertainment=cinema ticket is about $12. so, my budget is around $30.

this is from my experience. i live in a 2-bedroom unit with 4 people. so, the budget is kinda cheaper than others. biggrin.gif
