QUOTE(limeuu @ Nov 8 2011, 11:36 AM) Is that just a bedroom? wow..... Added on November 8, 2011, 1:41 pm QUOTE(xcullen @ Nov 8 2011, 01:24 PM) You'll be paying more on rents, food and transports. How much more on those figures? Those are Jan 2010 figures.......I don't know about Social and Entertainment, could be more than your food/transport expenses. It would be more than $1500. QUOTE(Hikari0307 @ Nov 10 2011, 09:06 AM) Course fees and Tuition fees are the same~~ You just pay the amount of tuition fees like it's showed on the university's website and that's it for your uni fees. Thanks for the clarification........language is a wonderful thing when we understand it.... Then budget all other stuff like rent etc. |

QUOTE(limeuu @ Jan 10 2012, 04:22 PM) 1. tasmania is NOT a city, but a state and an island.... Thanks! 2. it is expensive, due to it's isolation....if you are talking about capital cities, adelaide is probably the cheapest..... How come the fees for Tasmania U are so much cheaper than the mainland? Whats the budget for room, board and other expenses in Adelaide yearly? Thanks |

QUOTE(Draig @ Feb 14 2012, 12:03 PM) Im not too sure about life in Perth/Brisbane though. But i could give out some words at Melb. Is that all MONTHLY costs?Accomodation (staying at City) - approx. $900 - $ 1200 / month Food (City Area, assuming cooking during weekdays and eating out during weekends) - approx. $ 150 grocery + $ 100 (eat out) Transport (Travelling around City Only) - approx. $7 for a whole day or $3 for transportation within 2hrs. Communications (varies) - Economical, approx. $ 49/month with a new smartphone plan or approx. $29/month without a new smartphone plan Utilities (inclusive electricity, gas, water, internet) - $ 200-250 / month Others entertainment (Individual Preference) Added on February 14, 2012, 12:06 pmThis is a very brief approximation only. It depends on the individual anyhow. The communication expenses may vary with different network services. The one i commented was for Three/Vodafone. Food at $250 per month sounds pretty cheap? |

QUOTE(giomanach @ Feb 15 2012, 04:01 PM) I can do per week for Perth. It's just a rough estimation. Note: I've already estimated it to per week. Thanks!(a) $200 (b) $130 © $8 (d) $10 (e) $20 (f) $50 I really don't know what others are you referring to. So, I'm just giving you a rough estimation of what I would use. Thats fine. Its much more accurate from real life ! |

Noob question:
Why is it some universities require 5 years for an undergraduate engineering degree course while others, 4 years? For eg Curtin is 5 years, U Western Aus is 5 years resulting in Masters, University of Queensland is 4 years |

QUOTE(podrunner @ Mar 5 2012, 03:16 PM) Curtin and UQ : undergrad engineering is 4 years. Perhaps go to each uni's website and have a read at the course details to gain better understanding. i went to the Curtin and they showed the course duration as 5 years albeit instead of Chemical eng, they had chemical eng and something else.......ahhhh beg yr pardon...think its a double degree Indeed chemical eng is 4 years http://fees.curtin.edu.au/documents/Intern...Fees2012-UG.pdf whereas Queensland U showed 4 years for chemical eng. UWA had a engineering science degree taking 3 years and then masters in specialised engineering such as chemical eng, another 2 years. 5 years for engineering degree is just too long! Seems very commercialised to fleece the students! QUOTE Course description, features and facilities The Engineering Science major provides you with fundamental engineering knowledge and develops your scientific, communication and problem solving skills through a combination of theoretical foundations and practical, hands-on courses and industry projects. In your first and second years of study you will complete a strong, broad foundation of engineering and science units, before moving into your third year to study a more specialised area of engineering. You will then have the opportunity to gain deeper understanding and application of this specialisation in the postgraduate Master of Professional Engineering* where you can choose to specialise in one of the following areas: Chemical Engineering Civil Engineering Electrical and Electronic Engineering Environmental Engineering Mechanical Engineering Mining Engineering Software Engineering^ The Engineering Science major is developed in consultation with a wide range of industry leaders and provides you with the opportunity to work on creative real-world projects from concept through to design and client presentation in modern learning environments such as the Monadelphous Integrated Learning Centre and Clough Engineering Student Centre. http://www.studyat.uwa.edu.au/courses/engineering-science |

QUOTE(podrunner @ Mar 5 2012, 04:24 PM) If I'm not mistaken, UWA is going the graduate entry route for its courses in phases. Maybe check UK for undergrad engineering, and I think you can graduate with honors in 4 years. Yes...the graduate entry route which seems to be slowly the trend.Good for commercialism .....and profits for the universities but unecessary expense for the students. 4 years to graduate as an engineer is far too long....let alone 5 years |

QUOTE(StarGhazzer @ Mar 19 2012, 09:53 AM) Areas near the various Monash campuses have lots of similarly set-up accommodation but they are pretty much almost double the price. Most of the people I know who share rooms need at least 500-600 monthly. Don't even think about living near the CBD with those prices... A two-room unit can easily fetch AUD2000-2200 monthly for rent alone. Isnt it better for 4 persons to get a two room apratment unit at $2000? Those rooms in Melbourne are expensive! How much is an aprtment in those areas near the CBD? |
