Top 10 is just beside Tesco Puchong, corner lot.
Perfect Lighting is at Uptown Damansara facing LDP, u can see their signboard got a big yellow bulb there. The map http://wikimapia.org/#lat=3.136456&lon=101...91&z=17&l=0&m=b
I found Perfect Lighting prices are cheaper even though Top 10 more famous, but Top 10 have more choices for hanging lights and ceiling fan.

Square type is more expensive than Round type, and some square can put 2 bulbs.
There are alot of combinations, square/round, size 4"/6", got cover/no cover, material aluminium/chrome/metal/stainless steel, with balast/no balast.

Functionality is more or less same, appearance is subjective. Of coz personally i feel square type is nicer and stainless steel is better too but higher price.
Practically and $$ wise, i prefer round shape 4" with no cover and no balast.

Reasons?
Round shape - Square shape is harder to cut the plaster ceiling compare to round (contractor might charged higher for installation)

No cover - If got cover, it is hotter, ur bulb life might burn easier. Harder to change bulb coz need to open the cover and normally cover will trap alot insects inside.
4" - Subjective choice coz i think 6" too big tongue.gif

No balast - Generally light with balast will last longer but harder to change. And if u do looping wiring of few lights, one of the balast spoil, u need to troubleshoot which 1 spoil coz all the lights can't be turn on. If no balast it is easier to change urself if anything wrong but the life is shorter.

Material aluminium - Stainless steel too exp, metal will rusty, so i get aluminium.

For energy saving bulb, u have 3U or spiral light. 3U is cheaper price. Normally the wattage is around 18W-20W, of coz if u want brighter u can buy higher power.

Brands u got Philips, Osram and GE, of coz those cap ayam brands also. Personally i prefer GE becoz the quality is better but more pricey. It is harder to find in light shops too. Most will carry Osram and Philips. If u want save, buy Philips, this batch Osram really screw up in quality, the bulb burn frequently, ask in those lighting shop u will know.

Color, u got white, cool white and warm white. In laymen term, those yellowish light we saw is warm white, white color is white and cool white is like those Mc.Donald restaurant light, in the middle of yellow and white. I prefer cool white but the only famous brand has cool white is Osram so I give it a miss, unless u want try those cap ayam brand. Else, u might try to mix some white and warm white.

Thought shapes with curves is always more difficult to cut? Anyhow, this is just a small issue, doubt there'll be much difference in price when cutting square or round. Even if cut round, u can fit in square downlights & vice versa.
About cover, some of the downlight cover is provided because it cut down the glare if we stare it directly, ie when we lay down. Notice some cover have been blurred out? My observation is cover type is suitable for residential while the opposite is for commercial.

is L-box different from Light trail??

was earlier given a quote for RM15 per ft run for L box...

after installation done, contractor says these are light trails not L-box, and price becomes RM23 per ft run

also paid RM3.50/sq ft for plaster ceiling works...apparently, they used 12mm boards, and not 8mm boards...he shud've let me choose cos i'd chosen the 8mm board if it's cheaper...dunno what's the extra 4mm for...

including curtain pelmets, 3 man hole, box ups & false beams, in total, paid rm6225 for 1000sq ft...which i think is a total ripped off...altho the workman ship was very good & i really liked the design..

btw, no paint, no lights...those are charge differently...

I had asked few contractors and lighting shop, all told me square shape is harder to cut. Some wireman might charged higher for square light installation.

Ya, the good points of the downlight cover are nicer and able to cut down the direct light which will be too strong if we stare directly for too long.
However it got alot of cons too as i mentioned previously.

I think both types are suitable for residential, just a matter of preference.

L-box and light troughs are different things. So is the price.

Added on January 13, 2010, 9:19 pmfor square downlights...i assume that the main "problem" that many plaster guys is the alignment issue. Hard to get alignment perfect straight.

@harrychoo,
The square downlights apparently are easier to change these days; just pop open the glass panel on one side; it's no longer a dead fixed.

Am actually looking at getting the square ones for my new home but it's kinda pricey. Maruzen @ SS2 is looking at charging about RM62 p/light *gulp*

havent heard of light trails though. rm3.5 is almost the ceiling price for end users. thr is a difference btwn 12mm n 8mm boards. if the ceiling area is large enough, u will see the 'waves' using 8mm boards. ppl hardly use 8mm boards. also, boards and plastering r changed separately. 6k for 1ksqft is quite expensive. mine showing us some pics?

It's a Chinese contractor and it's very friendly, you can talk about anything with him so i decided to put out his number so you guys can try to have a deal with him.

His number is 016-3597215, Mr Liew.
The price for whole renovation for my house is just around 7K and i think it is worth because of his workmanship and his service.

i also engaged him to do plaster ceiling for my house. he did the job within 3 days for total area of 900++sf. the workmanship is very good. i got several quotation from another contractor and i chose him because his price is the lowest + friendly. rm2.20 psf for flat board & rm3.00 pfr for cornice. dont forget to mention my name, saiful from bukit antarabangsa if you nego with him. i believe he will give u further discount.

for light ..me choose round w/o glass...color light..mid...cool white (between white n warm) does not glare..but advice to try out in area u want to install as it does effect on the color scheme of your wall...

for kitchen better use the warm color..or cool white not the daylight as it turns your food pale..most kitchen use cool white or warm color...more presentable food show...

me using the 'Luminious' brand...smile.gif..spiral type...18watt...so far ok..even make comparision on the other said brand 'Os..' and 'Ph..."...using lower amp power...smile.gif..got warranty...

I just bought another condo at taman desa and i asked Mr. Liew to do it for me and he finished it within 3 days. The price is still reasonable compare to the price i quoted from other contractor. His service is good, you guys can try to call him. 016-3597215

Maybe you guys can tell him my name. My name is de yang.

Anyway he just told me that he have a 4 inch square downlight single philip bulb including wiring and installation which is only RM55 which other contractor quoted me for RM85.
