Yeah..Android runs on Linux kernel..Linux has the cpufreq selectors which can be adjusted accordingly..What you guys didnt know, for those using Hero's Teknologist' kernel, the CPUfreq is clocked at its maximum speed..Even the minimum clock is set to 527Mhz tongue.gif This way, the Hero runs at its maximum speed at all times..But the surprising part is that battery, instead of drawing more power, gave more juice and was able to run at longer periods..That explains the excitement in my twitter a few months ago when I was talking to teknologist..We had trial and errors and it turned out to be a lot of fun smile.gif

Thats why, what CPU has become today is not what they used to be in the older days (like ARM etc) smile.gif

I'm still reading reviews here and there, watching review videos etc. Quite a mixed review I would say. I'm comparing between HD2 and N1. Nothing much on hardware difference, almost identical and each has it's pro & con, but nothing major.

One of my primary reason to get a PDA phone (also come out as the highest percentage of usage rate in PDA survey) is GPS. Seems like Android support only Papago, but wonder when will it be available for Android 2.0?

Other than that, apart from faster (almost instantaneous I say!) response time, while HD2 still suffer some lag issue. Not as bad as HD, and in fact was a significant improvement from HD I say. But in terms of photo browsing, file browsing, switching tasks, there is noticable lag, nothing irritating though, just a gist of lag when compare with N1.

Again, I'm not familiar with Android, much has been said about its ability of customization. But seems like users need to go through a lot of (maybe endless) troubleshooting. Seems like the problem on the same model can be sooooo much different than other phone. It's not consistent can seems like there is not general rule or set of rules which can be use in troubleshooting this kind of problem(?)

Anyone has any say about this?

Astro and EStrongs File Explorer is great and free too. EStrongs also can access your windows share file/folder ( probably using samba ), very nice when you need it.

About the cpufreq, if you can access the terminal, can yoy run this for me smile.gif

# cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_available_governors
and
# cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_governor
and your current cpu governor is
# cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_governor

BTW, this is my GNU/Linux system, and might be slightly different from the Android. Anyway,
and you can check your current cpu speed and features with
cat /proc/cpuinfo

There are several types CPU scaling/speed controls, such as conservative, userspace, powersave, ondemand and performance. where you can manually assigned to kernel buy echo the governer name to the this /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_governor

Cool eh... you can use UNIX command in your phones, and can do anything you want. smile.gif

Thank you.

First, Google map is only for map viewing, not navigation. And to use it, you need to have data connection. Meaning it's not free browsing. I have subscription to data plan, but knowing our Malaysia 3G connection, it's not always consistent. Some location if you can't have signal, or only edge or gprs reception..... seems like its going to be a painful experience. sad.gif

For file exploring, erm, I think it's a basic need. Not exactly something to shout-about for existing WinMo user, but for Apple user, its a huge leap. Poison from N1 not strong enough.. laugh.gif laugh.gif

Now, that's amazing... hmm, hopefully someone can share his experience as soon as he gets the phone (shahz!). Then again, it maybe limited to few big city (for malaysia). And map updates, who's doing it for Malaysia?

We have a lot of one-way street, fly-over/underpass, road closure, and some roads junctions are just plan messy. I've been using Garmin for some time, there are minor occasion where I still took the wrong turn. IMO, it's excusable, considering I will probably get lost.

Some reviews from Malaysia road user would be nice...... smile.gif biggrin.gif

Google maps of coz as the navi is based on it. So you can be sure it's gonna be updated all the time.

I have a garmin 350 in msia, but found that it'll take the longer route for some reason lol. Maybe it's becoz i'm using the free malsingmap. No complain about reliability though, it'll get me there for sure.

I myself am still thinking about this or droid. Touch choice lol. Gonna wait for some more detailed reviews

I have Garmin XT in my E52 and Garmin Nuvi 755T with Malfreemaps (MFM) maps, and for navigation purpose, I''ll pick the NUVI for better accuracy and faster satellite signal lock.

Anyway, GPS in handpone also comes handy if your are in very needy/emergency situation. Example, find the nearest police stations, hosptals or 'mamak stalls'

Thank you

p/s: To Garmin nuvi users, please try MFM maps which are TOTALLY FREE with no limitation and updated WEEKLY!!! (on Monday). You also can get Indonesia maps and soon Thailand's maps too. IMHO, MFM is THE BEST mapping community ever smile.gif.

Google navigation is only available for US at the moment, no word yet when the service will be expanded to other part of the world. There is a hack version at XDA that can be used in Malaysia but the Malaysia Map data is not always up to date ( since it is not officially supported yet ) and there are some minor UI issues too.
