depends on your laptop. i have dell e1505 (inspiron 6400). only cleaned the fan twice when it's blocked by dust and fan cannot blow properly. look up tutorial/guide on the net if you really want to DIY (when your laptop is out of warranty of course). otherwise, you can send to computer shop.

not all laptop are design for user to do maintenance such as cleaning the dust

especially HP laptop, to open their laptop is very very hard, while dell i'm not sure

most of the manufacturer will have their user's manual writen, "blow it with compressed air", and it doesn't really clean even with compressed air

most of the gaming laptop or high end laptop model is easier to take out the fan/heatsink to clean.

just be careful when you open it up, dont forget the position of those screws

oh no.. mine is hp 6910p
i don't think by blowing air towards the ventilation hole can help anything
it's like blowing the dust back in

if send to shop, roughly how much they charge? RM20? RM30?

you can try do by yourself if you have confident that you can do it. else leave to the expert. i dont want you to accidently break the ribbon wire or any small component inside loL.

and some notebook are real easy to get into the fan area for cleaning up (like Alienware M15x and Alienware M17x), so its depend on how complicated the notebook place their fan too.

dont know why, but most of the mainstream laptop also like this, have to open up the bottom, take out everything, then open up the keypad, then only can reach the fan shakehead.gif

I have read the manual. It seems that HP CQ40 design makes it pretty hard to clean up the fan. Hell, even Acer easier.
