some laptops are hard to open whilst some are easy. don't force urself if u cant manage to open ur laptop, one piece rosak u will regret.

I have read the manual. It seems that HP CQ40 design makes it pretty hard to clean up the fan. Hell, even Acer easier.

Man! This is the last time with HP. Their design is so stupid (or good, depends from where you are looking) that it is so hard for us to clean up the fan. Or they just want out money when the PC died of ever heating because of a clogged fan?

i see so many mainstream laptop, their design looks good, but to open up and take out the fan to clean is actually very hard, not maintenance friendly at all

now using sager np8662, reaching the fan is never a problem for me, take out the heatsink and everything is just as simple as a desktop one thumbup.gif

Perhaps you can share more about your notebook. Thank you in advance.

both are not my picture, but is similar to mine

if you can figure out how to take out the larger heatsink on the 2nd pic, do tell me, i've take out all the 6 screw at there but still no hope, i scare i will tear the card to 2 pieces if use too much force.
Thanks for some very nice pictures.

As for the heatsink, you mean the one that get air blow from the fan?

the one at the top right side of the picture, with the X pattern aluminium securing it

since the heatsink are join together as one, so need to take out the fan and the two side first, but somehow cant take out the GPU part.

I can't really tell from the picture. I think it would be better if you wait for other to help instead of do some trial and error.

they wont teach you how to take out the heatsink, only teach out how to open the cover and clean the fan, i believe every laptop manufacturer will do the same
*
By the way, what is the main reason you want to remove the heatsink?

for fun

i want to take out the heatsink, and clean since i spot some dust inside, and if possible polish it to become mirror shine
If it is just for fun, I think you better off not to venture further or it can quickly turn from fun to tears in one fell swoop. (Unless it is your experimental notebook).

follow the basic rules and you will be fine, at least all the time tongue.gif

1. no water
2. no electrostatic
4. observe the inside surrounding
3. be gentle

sometime too gentle then cant do anything, at first i wanna use more force to pull it out, but then i see there is a connector there, so sayang sayang slowly put it back tongue.gif
Yeah, you are right. But if you already know what to do and where to apply more force and where no to, then you don't have to worry about the need to handle it too gentle, right? But I guess for this particular notebook you don't know yet.
