not all laptop are design for user to do maintenance such as cleaning the dust

especially HP laptop, to open their laptop is very very hard, while dell i'm not sure

most of the manufacturer will have their user's manual writen, "blow it with compressed air", and it doesn't really clean even with compressed air

most of the gaming laptop or high end laptop model is easier to take out the fan/heatsink to clean.

just be careful when you open it up, dont forget the position of those screws

depends on your notebook,
as for my acer, I need to open every single thing just to reach the fan laugh.gif
*
dont know why, but most of the mainstream laptop also like this, have to open up the bottom, take out everything, then open up the keypad, then only can reach the fan shakehead.gif

One shop in lowyat told me minimum is RM150. A ripoff for what you can do youself.
*
with that price, i better do it myself and save the rest of the money to give myself a better meal later biggrin.gif

*
V3000 suck, i owned it last time and it is dam hard to open, to reach the fan is like dissemble the whole laptop shakehead.gif

QUOTE(123joe @ Dec 29 2009, 04:10 AM)
clean to make sure the fan not stuck with a lot dust. cq still got intake vent. or u can post ur pic here, we help showing u the area. smile.gif
*
i dont have CQ40, i just see it from my friend's one, my friend's dv4 and dv6 also dont have the intake vent directly under the laptop

QUOTE(Spade @ Dec 29 2009, 11:38 PM)
Man! This is the last time with HP. Their design is so stupid (or good, depends from where you are looking) that it is so hard for us to clean up the fan. Or they just want out money when the PC died of ever heating because of a clogged fan?
*
i see so many mainstream laptop, their design looks good, but to open up and take out the fan to clean is actually very hard, not maintenance friendly at all

now using sager np8662, reaching the fan is never a problem for me, take out the heatsink and everything is just as simple as a desktop one thumbup.gif

walau, cant believe u can reach the fan... i cant even open the damn casing, too many screw... opened 3 times and all fail. then give up. now the laptop dead...cannot on anymore.most probably is mobo problem. trying to get a S42 as replacement ^^
*
i cant actually reach the fan of V3000, i just use ear bud to clean it through a small hole and give me a glimpse of the fan, i take out the keypad then at the top left corner, below the power button, there should have a small hole there, you can see a bit of the fan, from there clean it using ear bud

Perhaps you can share more about your notebook. Thank you in advance.
*

Pictures of your easy-to-access fan would be nice.
*
here is the bottom of the laptop, you can see the large cover with lot of ventilation hole and a small fan there
user posted image

unscrew the screw that secure the cover, take it out and you will see this, everything is inside
user posted image

both are not my picture, but is similar to mine

if you can figure out how to take out the larger heatsink on the 2nd pic, do tell me, i've take out all the 6 screw at there but still no hope, i scare i will tear the card to 2 pieces if use too much force.

Thanks for some very nice pictures.

As for the heatsink, you mean the one that get air blow from the fan?
*
the one at the top right side of the picture, with the X pattern aluminium securing it

since the heatsink are join together as one, so need to take out the fan and the two side first, but somehow cant take out the GPU part.

what is the easiest notebook to maintain? noneed to clean the fan or minimal cleaning?
*
maybe a netbook, or find some laptop that is without fan, i doubt there is one.

QUOTE(Spade @ Jan 2 2010, 01:37 AM)
I can't really tell from the picture. I think it would be better if you wait for other to help instead of do some trial and error.
*
people who use sager is rare, people who use the same model as mine is even more rare laugh.gif

they wont teach you how to take out the heatsink, only teach out how to open the cover and clean the fan, i believe every laptop manufacturer will do the same

By the way, what is the main reason you want to remove the heatsink?
*
for fun

i want to take out the heatsink, and clean since i spot some dust inside, and if possible polish it to become mirror shine

If it is just for fun, I think you better off not to venture further or it can quickly turn from fun to tears in one fell swoop. (Unless it is your experimental notebook).
*
follow the basic rules and you will be fine, at least all the time tongue.gif

1. no water
2. no electrostatic
4. observe the inside surrounding
3. be gentle

sometime too gentle then cant do anything, at first i wanna use more force to pull it out, but then i see there is a connector there, so sayang sayang slowly put it back tongue.gif

QUOTE(csneo @ Jan 4 2010, 10:39 AM)
for those user who use high pressure air to clean the fan unit, please beware. I have a friend who's IBM T60 fan broken caused by he clean the fan using high pressure air... In youtube, there is many guide on opening nb casing. View through those video, u will be expert on opening nb casing...
*
i've heard some people said also, but i think is because the distance between the compressed air and the fan is too close, if i'm not wrong, should be at least 3-5cm of distance.

QUOTE(gunjack @ Jan 4 2010, 10:58 AM)
