@chef
I like your way of thinking. Never thought of such extreme case yet.
@lustman
Are you selling or buying? What is kpg stands for?
Another question:
Would silver bar tarnish if exposed to air? How durable is the original plastic sheets that comes with it?
Coz a scottsdate 10oz bar has grooves which allow them to be stacked up. So i suppose they are not meant to be kept inside some air tight material.
Hearing from some expert and coming to conclusion.
Silver react to sulphuric oxide in the air and water, which contain oxygen too. That's why they are to keep in "AIR" tite. I'm no expert, but I would suggest many layers of protection for keeping.
1) keep in original packing of air tite or plastic it comes original with
2) put these into ziplock bag, please push out all the air from the ziplock bag, and don't use cheap ziplock, the strong durable one
3) put all these inside an air tight container, if you can suck out the air, even better, if not, throw in a HIPPO in the container
4) Throw in some chalk (I heard it absorb all funny chemical in the air, chalk is suppose to be....alkaline or something? I forgot, failed my chemistry)
5) Put this container in dark places not expose to sunlight and dry place, I think places where you keep your clothes.
6) Finally, some charcoal if you can squeeze in any place else.
7) And those silica gel (the one you get from medicine bottle or japanese crackers, but clean it properly, don't rinse it. it's good for sucking up all water.
HA HA!! I know it's a little extreme, but these are compiled from all the recommendation for storing silver. If all else fail, you can always buy the silver cleaning solution when yours start to have white spot (as soon as you see it)
If you like to stack up your bar, do it occasionally just to feel good, then put them all back into storage, else when it turns ugly looking, well, it will look ugly.

Those vacuum plastic covers are fine but if it splits open, just use cellophane tape to seal it back. Otherwise the area near where it splits may turn copperish.
There is no guarantee though even in tubes or air tites, I have coins in tubes and air tites that developed milk spots. Air tites are better in protection though, but takes up a lot of space when u have lots of coins.
Btw, I got a friend who keeps some silver and gold in his wallet, he got stuck in Egypt during the riot and actually used gold to buy flight ticket out of the country, when credit cards were not acceptable.
There are some country that forbids bringing in gold or silver, or limit the qty, else you are deemed to be importing and they will tax you or something.
By right, I heard another story of a guy used his AMEX PLATINUM card to call for emergency transport due to riot in egypt, they sent him a jet or helicopter (don't remember) and flew him out. It wasn't a marketing ad, it was on newspaper, so it did great service to the card company.
But honestly, it's not something that will not happen, it can happen to any country, so when the country currency devalue overnight, all you have is the food you kept (those can food) and the gold and silver that you have. Think japanese occupation of asia, when they threw out local currency and use their own, and when they lost, we threw out their currency and use our own. But nobody is going to throw out your gold bar!!

Physical gold and silver guys!! don't live life without any.
