Hey, I'm a new Toshiba user. M500-S433. Got mine during PC fair.

So I have this problem, sometimes when I'm using the laptop, the screen will suddenly black out and then recover few seconds later... Then a notification bubble will pop and it says the NVIDIA kernel driver has stopped responding and recovered. At first I thought it was momentarily and one-time only but recently it happened a few times, is there ANY way to make this problem disappear permanently?

Thanks!

Yo icon_rolleyes.gif PF T.J. Lately been busy with some work. Great advice from you rclxms.gif thanks a lot. I did my partition and seems like working fine to me thumbup.gif

Btw, the toshiba pre-loaded software that you suggested to use, which is Toshiba Reel Time and the Toshiba HDD Protection, from my first exploration of the Reel Time, it seems like a history option for you retrieve easily what you had browse or used. Mind to share some info on the usage from your experience, perhaps? And as for the HDD protection, I didn't notice it is loaded in my laptop. Hmmm..... hmm.gif

So far so good with my laptop, been using extremely gentle...guess is still a new laptop afterall...haha tongue.gif Yeah, like what you said, my usage are more to moderate gaming and entertainment plus moderate graphics software usage as well.

Still experiencing with this latest Win7 and i find it interesting drool.gif haha...

Just finished asking Mr. Google on your cooler pad. Wow! Its one big and mean machine! drool.gif
How is it? All the pictures from the internet never show the bottom part of the cooler pad, is it covered up? Is it easy to gain access to the fans? O____O
Anyway, grats on your cooler pad purchase hehe laugh.gif Hope it will serve you well icon_rolleyes.gif

Hihi, congratulations on your laptop purchase laugh.gif
Are you running on 64-bit Windows 7? My gf's M500- S433 doesn't seem to have this kind of problems though. But a quick search through the internet has shown that this problem is actually quite rampant and there's not much solutions at the moment. Some say its because of heat, some say its because of incompatibility with vista/windwos 7, some say its because of some other background programs which clashes with the GPU. I'm not sure.

In my view, perhaps you can wait for the latest driver (NVIDIA G310M) updates or if its not too inconvenient for you, ask Toshiba to switch a new M500 for you to see whether the problem still exist icon_rolleyes.gif

http://laptopforums.toshiba.com/t5/Drivers...Need/td-p/91994

They released a new driver V196.16 if i not mistaken but i tried it as well the only thing diff with the error is the version which doesn't help!

If as you said change a new set, hey i done so i changed my set 4 days ago with the problem still persist. I bought my laptop in Feb and i change it 4days ago! the next 2 day same error

And i believe your laptop is using a 189.78 driver which is standard at the moment

I will be heading down to Teledynamics next week to see what we can do about this problem. It seems like a lot of notebooks are having these kind of issues, not just for Toshiba. rclxub.gif

I think its better to buy after the issue has been resolved.. It may take a while...
Not sure whether the Portege M900 has these type of problems or not since they are using the same GPU rclxub.gif

Always extend warranties to 3 years if possible icon_rolleyes.gif
A reliable notebook doesn't mean it won't spoil haha laugh.gif Most notebooks have a knack of becoming faulty between the 2nd- 3rd year after purchase X___X

The website you shown that doesn't recognize your serial number is because its a Toshiba US website.

So follow this link www.pc.toshiba-asia.com/registeronline

Are you sure you have keyed in all the correct information, especially the model and serial number?
Actually the international warranty no need to register if you extend your warranty, be it local or international, they will do it automatically for you.

Yup, you can also register by showing your proof of purchase to the authorities icon_rolleyes.gif
