Is this methods work? If let say the bank need the p01ice report for credit card lost, then how?

Don't la do funny stuff, if all cc users do what you do then it'll undermind the entire market itself. FYI, I never had any problems with card cancellation via letter even though the bank ask for the physical card prior to termination. You can say that you have physical proof (with fax is possible) that you already sent the letter and if they ignore it then you can report to BNM if anything happens.

I'm happy to say that never I need to do more than just faxing the termination letter.

Hi, for you guyz info, AirAsia is now charging covenience fee to customer who book ticket online using credit/debit/charge card, which is rm5 charged per one way ticket bought.

Is this against the Bank Negara Rules?

Pretty sad with their implementation of this rules.I think BNM should take actions against them, because they are one of the largest creditcard merchant in Malaysia, and it should not be the bad example to others

for more info about this, http://airasiafansclub.blogspot.com/2009/1...-for-value.html
*
I noticed this charge in my ticket too and I thought it was the insurance. I'll report this charge to the bank once I completed my travel - better since AirAsia need to justify this charge to the bank. If I complain now then AirAsia cancel my ticket then I'm doomed! If they think they are smart then I'll report this to Mastercard / VISA International - see whether AirAsia can fight them.

You see ... to a certain extent AirAsia have no choice but to relay on business coming from credit card users. If you shut it down then to a certain extent AirAsia business will be affected as well. Hahaha .... ! Anyone wants to join me and complain to your respective banks ? I have a strong feeling that the final judgement will be on the users side.

Yesterday I called them up to do points redemption and inquire on card termination process.

1st call, took more than 5 mins before I speak to a human being.
2nd call, was on hold for so long till the call ended on its own.
3rd call, more than 2 mins before speaking to a human.
* Mind you this was the Platinum Priority Hotline number.

Even without the service tax issue I will cancel this card coz I don't tolerate bad customer service. Imagine you had to call them from overseas ? The long wait will burn a hole in your pocket due to call charges alone.

so now the government is charging us rm 50 for each card right? maybe they will revise their decision later on?

At least not for next year. The govt factored in the RM500 million revenue from this tax into the budget - do you think they will reverse it ? NO! Govt need this money coz they got no money or loss so much money elsewhere!

if my card expired, and i got a new card, do i have to activate the new card that carried the same number as the old card?  blink.gif

Depends on the bank, some it is already activated and some you need to activate. Honestly, I'd prefer to activate the card via call-in as it is safer and you know the new card can't be abused if lost in transit.

i found in my latest MBB cc statement, the credit point has been deducted.. Maybe they deducted it bcoz they have made 50% revision for the unauthorised transaction... Are they allowed to do that.. ?

Any advice what should i do with the remaining 50% of the unauthorised transaction.. AFAIK, BNM has set a maximum cap at rm250 only but they want me to cover about rm1k.. Its not my fault so i'm not going to pay them that amount..

already lodge a complaint with FMB.. usually how long will FMB solve this bcoz when i ask them they can't give exact timeframe..
*
BTW ... not to jump the gun, can you tell the story behind the scene of your transaction dispute ?

Actually I received a call from HLB promoting this card to me on Monday. HLB has amended the T&Cs where cash back is not based on spending amount of denomination of RM100. You can get 1% cash back for any amount spent, provided that the amount must be more than RM50. Besides, petrol purchases are not included. No reward points are given.
*
I share the same sentiment on HLB - to be cautious of their T&C. In comparison, SCB JustOne give out a rebate of at least 2% (Friday would be 5%) but capped to RM600 per year. Whatever you spend will get the rebate. Points also given - 0.5 point for every RM1 spent.

Cons
- The higher fees for overseas transactions (I think 1.5%)
- RM600 per year cap.
- The annoying "education" that you need to give out to the cashier if they swipe your card. (The CR or DR question)

But when you mail the cheque to them, you also need to pay for the stamp yourself right ?
*
(Allow me to add on) Plus having to deal with the risk of postal delays, lost mails and a whole lot of risk. (Not to mention, petrol and your personal time to go to the bank or post office) RM2 IBG fees is considered cheap than going through all that mess.

At least with IBG, you'll be rest assured that the money will reach the bank within a certain period of time.

This week I was approached by a Maybank credit card agent. She told me that the Amex card 1st year RM50 service charge is waived. Is this true? I told her that none of the banks made any announcements yet, the how did she know 1st year is waived? She replied that this is a promotion or something.
*
Take it with a pinch of salt and bear in mind it is not in B&W. They will say anything to get you to sign up. CC sales have dropped dramatically these days, you no longer / hardly see card agents in hypermart/malls - those who are still around will be hard pressed for sales.

If you have a Maybank account and your salary is credited into it every month, then you are entitled for Maybank pre-approved credit card(s). It is alright even if you only have been working for one month.
*
It is not a certainty, more like a probability. I knew of some friends who got pre-approved MBB cards and only been working for 1 month only. But the approval depends on other factors - in this case I suspect which company you work influences the approval factor. If you work in a big well known company then yes ... but if you work in a Sdn Bhd (and worse if the company is not known at all), the chances of getting a pre-approved card diminishes very quickly.

Yes ... do call back to reconfirm. I think all banks are flooded with card cancellations request. I make it a habit to confirm that card has been cancelled after faxing a letter in - you can even ask for the date that the card cancellation is effective for your own records.

If I'm not mistaken, you'll need to place RM10K for a 12 months FD tenure. (I might be wrong about the tenure) Note that the uplifting period will be longer than usual as well as the bank want to make sure you have paid all your dues after cancelling the card.

PBB is one of them and maybe the folks here can give more idea on which bank that have this facility.

I'm not speculating or anything but if you intend to place a short term FD then this option will not work for you. Thanks to the other folks which confirmed the 12 months FD placement.

noob question...

what is IBG?

omg.... credit card can swipe 150k??? siao lor... buy car use cC?

IBG = Interbank Transfer / In your Internet banking they also call this GIRO but the actual term to use is IBG. The common service platform is actually provided by MEPS to all local banks in Malaysia. Local banks transfer funds via the MEPS network and charges you. (Hope I make sense) The varying IBG charges from one bank to another (RM0.50 - RM2.00) does not reflect the actual MEPS charges. It is banks who decide how much to charge you.

Most banks cap the maximum CC CL to RM250K, so RM150K is just not there yet.

Yup ... CL comes with responsibility. Banks won't be so stupid to just assign you this super CL without thinking of the risks. For example, RHB requires you to have RM1 million in deposit before they give you this CL.

I recently posted a dispute to my bank challenging AirAsia's convenience fee. If that fails then I'll highlight the issue with VISA/Mastercard International and let's hear the official word on this.

Let's see how that will work out.

1 qns for UOB bank epp

lets say i have an installment where i have to pay RM200 a mth for 12 mths and i make a payment for RM1000 will this amount be deducted from my installment for 5 months and not be charged interest for that installment?

i will still make prompt payment for any other charges i make to tht card.

just want to pay RM1000 1st to tahan for 5 mths and then continue paying RM200 after tht.
*
Nope it doesn't work that way for installment plans - not for UOB nor other banks.
If you do that then you are doing a prepayment, means you are putting money into your cc account without getting any interest. For installment plans, banks will actually charge you the installment amount each month. So, they see your extra cash but nothing special happens.

If I were you, I wouldn't bother doing it that way. Better put my money somewhere else.

Thanks for the head up for MC's regional HQ. I wasn't aware that most budget airline now charges this convenience fee and not just AirAsia.

Maybe I was excited because I had an incident which I think they shortchanged me for the holiday package which I booked via them. In their website, they mentioned a free upgrade to Suite if I fuilfilled their conditions (which I did) but I only got a regular room.

In their defense they said the promotion is over but in the website clearly stated that the promo was still active.
