Ok.. The 2 weeks is just a number or are there any reliable references for the processing time? Maybe need to cancel asap already.. PH, Sat and Sun can cut the card?

QUOTE(winner @ Nov 27 2009, 11:13 AM)
Bear in mind that some banks require customers to write in for card cancellation request. Based on my recent experience, HLB requested me to write an official letter to them. The funny thing was that they only called me to verify asking me the reasons after 3 weeks I faxed them the letter. Thereafter, they said they would process my request immediately.
*
The two weeks is more of a normal thing...safe side would be 3-4 weeks. I'm going to cancel mine between now and the first week of December.

I can almost bet you that lots of people will be canceling their cards in the middle or end of December expecting it to take into effect immediately.

take this chance to cancel off those u really do not need first. If there are some cards you like to keep...well, you can try to wait till end of December for any reply from banks on their waiver.

I suppose it is MBB card? biggrin.gif
*
nope, I will keep all 3 MBB cards because the rebate I get back per year is wayyy above RM50 tongue.gif Plus they have been very efficient in customer services...always say take 2 weeks to process but in 1-2 days the work is done.

I'm canceling RHB travelmoney...since I only use it on petrol. And Citibank card gonna cancel when I'm free.

For me personally, I won't keep all eggs in one basket. If MBB system or terminals experience technical problem, all your MBB cards will be rejected. It has always been good to keep a cc from different bank as a backup.
*
yup, MBB will not be my only card...but it is my main card. All 3 cards have use for me now.

Anyway I was talking to my aunt who works at Bank Negara and she says that they have not finalized the "service tax" details yet. I suggest you guys do not wait any longer because this is looking more and more like delaying on purpose...

For me cancelling the Giant-Citibank was the most hassle-free (that's the advantage I see in Citibank), a phone call to them and they will call me back to confirm. When they persuade you just learn to say NO. Simple.
*
really? Calling them is enough? DOn't need to go to the bank?

Hmm okay let say if I cancelled my card before 01012010, but insurance still charge money to my cancelled card, do I still need to pay RM50 tax?
I think there's no correct answer for this now since bank has not announce anything yet...
*
this kind of things dun need to ask. How can you make a transaction to a credit card which doesn't exist? Its like I'm paying for my dinner with a CIMB card...but I do not have a CIMB card. So do you think the cashier will say "thank you, please come again" or will she call the cops?

Assuming of course you do not make the cancellation on 31st December 2009...because obviously machines take time to process.

Added on November 30, 2009, 11:07 amI just called Citibank to cancel my credit card...their customer service so polite...make me feel bad about canceling the card.

Thanks for your reply. But problem is I dont have enough money for now  sweat.gif In the beginning I am going to slowly repay the balance till middle of next year but since the announcement of the RM50 tax, I decided to cancel a couple CCs earlier than expected.

Does applying CC takes a long time to approve?
*
if your plan is to get a CC only for the BT...then go ahead and apply. But I thought we could do a BT at anytime with other cards? I remember seeing this somewhere.

QUOTE(odieseven @ Dec 1 2009, 11:17 AM)
Indeed I do have more outstanding in MBB than Citi. For MBB the cards that I have are Visa, MC & Amex. The one with the outstanding is the MC. I dont think I can afford paying both CC's outstanding in 6 months. The best tenure for me is about 18-24 months. So that means that I have to apply for PBB? Or should I split the outstanding into 2 balance transfers, the Citi to MBB & the MBB MC to PBB? Am i complicating things here? tongue.gif

I'm thinking of using a debit card as well in the future as soon as I get my credit back in check. CCs are way too dangerous for me. sweat.gif
*
wow...what kind of amount you have that needs 18-24 months repayment?? Cancel your MBB Visa and Amex since it doesn't have any outstanding. I agree with your last sentence...cancel off all your cards and use a debit card. Maybe keep 1 CC in case of emergencies but EMERGENCIES ONLY! Get something with a very very low credit limit. Do not go for those with "unlimited CL"...Amex is doing this promotion.

Direct Access enable BT for existing and new customers without any hidden charges for 0% interest for forst 6 months.
*
odieseven...you can give this a try. Might save you a lot. Plus the card is free-for-life and got rebate on petrol which pretty much everyone uses smile.gif

Yep. I plan to get a cc for only the BT. BT anytime with other cards? Any info on this?

The amount is more than 5000. I did some calculations, I could only afford to pay about RM500 per month.  sweat.gif

I have actually just gotten the Amex & Visa for about 6 months. I actually applied for the Petronas CC, but they gave me a normal visa wave one instead. I actually can save a lot by getting the petrol rebate since I am constantly travelling but lost out there.
Already pmed him. I actually misunderstood earlier. I thought that DA CIMB CC only offers 6 months tenure. I'm finding out the details now. tongue.gif

Hope will get this settled soon. It's a race against time.
*
you should've canceled the normal Visa...kinda pointless. For your petrol...Direct Access also got rebate and theirs is cash rebate. I'd say its better than points.

But the 5000 debt is pretty heavy. Each month the interest should be RM75? wow...you knew about this rite? So when u pay RM500...only amount is RM425. Instead of 10 months, you'll be paying 12-13 months.

Bank Negara still haven't finalize anything for the local banks to do anything and its already December. Just go cancel your cards.

well is free for life..you can't really compare with other cards..
*
actually I can compare lots...coz many banks now are giving free-for-life cards. All 3 of my MBB cards are free-for-life. Direct Access also same. Public Bank and HSBC similar but they need u to swipe minimum 12x per year...etc...

btw, anyone here using the MBB SonyCard Visa? Does this have the 'automatic travel insurance' if you swipe the travel fee to the card? I can't find it on the website.

Curious, I remembered here mentioned we can request to transfer MBB Treatspoints from 1 CC to another (when cancel CC), but not sure if we can transfer from CC to MBB Visa Debit?
*
from CC to MBB? What's that? if from MBB card to another MBB card can la. Its automatic when u cancel a card...just remind them in case they forget to transfer the points smile.gif
