Recently I tried to cancel my Standard Chartered Visa Business Platinum.  Today SCB called me back and said according to the terms and conditions, all SCB cards cannot be cancelled for the first year.  So I guess I'm stuck with it until my card reaches 1 year old which is August 2010... bye bye RM50...
*
wtf?? Anyone kena this before? I wanna cancel my Citibank card liaoo...

I'm guessing next year they'll impose the RM50 immediately when you sign up for a credit card. Btw, who do we pay the RM50 to? Banks or income tax? Or mail cash to PM's house? lol

next year will be like that? how about i sign up a new credit card now? when do i have to give the rm 50 then?
*
obviously Jan 2010. Anyone holding a credit card in Jan 2010...dun care how long you've been holding the card (for now) will kena the charge.
We need to wait for the banks or gov to announce more details on this service tax...but thus far...everyone's assuming the worst since gov only gave us the Jan 2010 date.

do you think the bank will do something for it? or else ppl will start canceling their credit cards then
*
they will do something but I'm not sure how much they can do to help. They'll lose A LOT if they pay for everyone the RM50. Not to mention gov may 're-act' if the banks actually pay the RM50 for everyone.

We still need to cancel off those cards we are not using. It is a good chance to 'flush' out all the unused and unnecessary cards we have. Like that guy who has 9 cards but only uses 1 laugh.gif really dun know what he's thinking

wtf...newspaper say 9 only =.= lol
either way, its a good practice for us to discard what we do not need. Don't you agree? Although I'm pretty sure that is not what the gov was aiming for laugh.gif

MBB TreatPoints are evergreen (i.e. does not expire)

RM50 is firm, not waiver or anythin such as more treatpoint etc that kind of thing from banks. Da only qeustion is, charge at anniversary or on Jan every? May likely on the anniversary.

You do not need to take any action now as we are obtaining further guidelines from the authorities on this matter. As the annual service tax is only effective 1 January 2010, it is best that you retain your card to enjoy the many Card privileges. Be assured, we will advise you accordingly upon receipt of further direction on this.

So any of you guys still believe that its still in discussion?

All the cards center that I called gave the standard answer which is We havent received any direct order from BNM regarding this. Please continue using it for the meanwhile.
*
I suspected just as much. BNM is delaying...not the banks. Gov taking full advantage of the situation being close to the January 2010 dateline.

I suggest the mod opens a pinned thread with most updated news from the banks themselves with regards to the RM50 tax. At the moment, the information are everywhere throughout this forum.
*
really? There's only 1 official credit card thread...others are sub-threads.

whatever banks you're easiest with usually. In terms of going to the bank to pay statement or online payment.

If not...Direct Access is a good choice. Citi-Shell...not so.

any reason for the rejection? Which bank he applied for? Maybe international banks will have better acceptance rate for foreigners.

hmm...just remembered ALL IT Hypermarket puts it on the receipt as "admin charges" but actually...anyone can use those spy pen or a tape recorder and record the cashier's words on the charges. These alone are sufficient to be used in court, not to mention make the Dewan Rakyat start their own investigation.

dun need to wait for latest statement la...just ask for the transaction history on the card and pay accordingly. Or you could calculate how much u used in the past month and pay that much...round up the figure if not sure if sufficient.

I submitted my cancellation for nearly 2 weeks but the card is still showed at M2U and the TP are not transferred to another card.
*
I had the same problem earlier this year. Had to go to the counter and ask for them to "remove from list" or sth like that. Either way the card is already canceled even though it still shows on your M2U. As long as its not on your statement its ok.

yeah, other co-branded cards aren't doing something like this at all. Or is Citibank restrained from doing similar promos by the gov? With them being an International bank and all...

So by clearing all my payments without the statement out yet. I still can cancel my card?
*
theoretically...yes. Although I haven't really tried it myself. Already was not using my cards when I canceled them. Plus, some banks may be the annoying kind and tell u all kinds of nonsense so that u keep the card. Just be persistent that you do not want the card and they'll have to comply. Not annoying...but persistent smile.gif

To be on the safe side, its better if u go cancel your cards earlier. In December I suspect lots of people will be canceling their cards and there might be backlogs...means your application will only take into effect 2 weeks after application.
