Canon EOS 550D with 18-55mm kit lens. With Canon Gila-gila sale you should get the price around RM2700-2800, can get a battery grip or any accessories. Depends on your need also. biggrin.gif

Since you mentioned you are not planning to get an entry level DSLR, go for Canon EOS 50D, or probably a 60D after it has officially released. It's a semi-pro body. Canon EOS 550D considered as the best entry level body, so you wouldn't want it. smile.gif

Errr... if wanna learn... then maybe not the NEX.

All the models you mentioned will do fine. Do watch out the weight though if you're coming over from a point n shoot.

Canon 550D or Nikon D90? According the website below, it states that d90 is better. Although it's out of my budget but if it's that good then i might buy it. I don't want to buy something and regret about it. Any advise or recommendation on other canon and nikon camera besides the d90 and 550D?

Hey guys, need some suggestions.

I wanted to get Sony NEX-5 but I just Canon just recently launched G12.

I'm not that familiar with camera terminologies and I'm not sure which one should I get.

I want to use one of these cams first to gage my interest before I get my DSLR. Don't wanna waste my money buying an expensive cam to lose interest later on..

So which do you think is better for this purpose? NEX5? or G12?
*

both cameras seems like expensive.. u may consider very cheap DSLR, Nikon D3000 or Canon 1000D for starters.. at least u can keep the lens for next upgrade to better DSLR..

if you like to do a lot of settings..G12 stands at a SLIGHT advantage here as the NEX user controls are a bit messy..

however if you want a camera which can shoot DSLR picture quality(and even better than a lot of models in the market), the NEX-5 is your best bet.

Hi guys, any comment on Panasonic FP1, is it good? Previously I used Sony DSC W1, the picture is really good. Is it worth to upgrade?

the 18-200mm is more suitable for the NEX VG-10 lo..very bulky when extended to 200mm.

in short, photography is a very very expensive hobby if u cannot resist poison. tongue.gif

For me was exactly the same..I wanted to learn on something simpler and maybe if I am really into photography can upgrade..

I tested the brands you mentioned as well as Olympus EPL-1. In the end I settled on the EPL-1. I prefer it to the Nex 5 especially as I the interface better. Picture quality is very good and for beginner, there are a lot of Auto-modes to play with. Manual is not like DSLR but for beginner there is a lot to learn already. Basically, can take good photos immediately in the many auto modes and can learn and play with your camera in manual modes
