QUOTE(syahrul37 @ Jan 13 2010, 12:00 AM) 1.8 is wider than 3.5....wider means more blurring of background...but use it carefully as u may not get the image sharp enough... i know what it is. juz not sure shud we say 'bigger' or 'higher' or what ;p i think 'wider' is not a good term to teach ppl, since they will confuse with a wide lens as in short focal length |

QUOTE(celciuz @ Jan 13 2010, 07:11 AM) f/1.8 is bigger/wider than f/3.5. as i said, i know what it is, im asking about the termAperture = f/1.8, f=focal length. So if f=50, then the aperture size is 50/1.8 = 27.78mm. Aperture f/3.5, 50/3.5 = 14.29mm. QUOTE(the_tranny @ Jan 13 2010, 10:56 AM) Picture Control ? oh sorry, got wide telephoto lens? example?I put it on Standard then i screwed around played around the adjustment and knocked myself out with it. I guess it is now a customised picture control And i named it TRANNY1. Added on January 13, 2010, 11:06 amSweetie, if THEY confuse those terms with lens type when talking about aperture size which of course would be in clear context whenever talked about, then THEY should really pay attention. By the way, you kinda derailed your own irony there a bit .. "wide lens as in short focal length" ? That does not sound right ... because wide lens could be a telephoto lens and/or a short focal length. So, personally i couldnt really understand you on that last part. However, your concern about the term is understandable QUOTE(luzzio @ Jan 13 2010, 11:43 AM) wide aperture. okay, so i should just stick with wide aperture then short focal length/wide angle. difference. insist they keep the proper term in mind, because that's how all the teaching guides refer. picture control (well, optimize image for me) i just leave at normal. anything else later i decide in PP hehe. when shooting i only worry about composition n exposure This post has been edited by dvlzplayground: Jan 13 2010, 01:02 PM |

QUOTE(the_tranny @ Jan 13 2010, 11:56 PM) Added on January 14, 2010, 12:03 amowhh i hope i understood you just fine when i read you the first time though By the way .... that wide telephoto you asked ... i would say 18mm is wide. So 18-200mm is a wide telephoto lens. Theres 17-50 lens and its called a telephoto lens so i heard. Im sure different people may perceive differently on how wide is wide. I would say anything wider than 18 (17 below) is ULTRA wide .. Ultra Wide Angle. @HiroBoroi / Pleasuresaurus : haishhhhh |

QUOTE(the_tranny @ Jan 14 2010, 03:04 AM) Wide telephoto end ? Is there any chance that you meant that as a telephoto lens with big/wide max aperture ? Because if it is so, then theres quite aplenty of em around .. for example 70-200mm f/2.8. Also if thats the case, then the term is "fast telephoto", not "wide telephoto". Its big/wide maximum aperture allows for fast shutter speed thus it is a "fast" lens. no no, i was confused how can a focal length be both wide and tele at the same time. didnt realize u were talking about wide tele LENS hehehIf you meant something else then ignore me .... |

QUOTE(Suparjo @ Jan 25 2010, 02:28 PM) bird and insect are very different categories for birds i think u need at least 200mm telephoto lens, and a fast one at that insects u need macro lens. close-up filters might do, but less quality lah anyway since a lot of u guys here in this thread got the 18-105mm lens...is it a worthy replacement for a D40 kit lens? i want more focal length for candid shots. currently considering the 18-105 vs sigma 18-200 OS HSM. no money for nikkor 18-200, n dont want to change lenses so the 55-200 is out. i thinkkk 105mm should be enough for me, but im wondering what's the maximum aperture for the sigma at 105mm? i also really like sigma's built quality, dun mind the weight lah since d40 is already light. those using 18-105 now do u feel the range and quality is okay for portrait/candid shots? QUOTE(Klesk @ Jan 26 2010, 05:31 PM) which af area mode do you guys usually use. single area for me. dynamic for moving subjects lah of course. i prefer to select the focus point myself. no no, u cant focus more than one point..normally in auto-area the camera will just select the closest subject n focus on it. that's what i noticed with my D40 la atleast• Single point • Dynamic area • Auto-area • 3D-tracking (11 points) Auto area seems that the camera will focus the subjects if you place them under any of the 11 focus points. So does it allow you to focus more than one subject? What i heard is usually people tend to stick with single or dynamic area which would only focus on a particular subject and use the d-pad to tell the camera which focus point to be used QUOTE(alex_cyw1985 @ Jan 26 2010, 05:40 PM) D90 + 50mm shud be around 3.7k perhaps18-105 kitlens and 50mm got pros n cons. 50mm is 'better' of course, but u're very limited with ur range. for example, for 50mm very hard to use in small rooms. |

QUOTE(@meno @ Jan 26 2010, 06:24 PM) Haha... really? that's cheap. i juz based the prices according to yamiya... d90 body RM3192, 50mm RM419 = total RM3611, so juz round up around 3.7k I know somebody is thinking of DIY-ing one, but so far only talks and no actions yet... Well, if he really succeed in making one, will let you know... How come so expensive? D90 body is RM3k, 50mm F1.8 is RM370. RM3.7k is so expensive... QUOTE(Tenshi @ Jan 26 2010, 08:26 PM) 50mm on DX body will be 75mm. macam short tele already. meaning if u want to take picture of someone, u have to step back quite a bit. in small rooms u wont have space to step backThis post has been edited by dvlzplayground: Jan 26 2010, 09:27 PM |
