hi all since this topic is about paint .. wanna ask how do i remove oil base paint from doors ?? ive tried sanding it down but takes too long .. ive also looked for paint stripper gel/chemical in ace but it cost RM80+ for a can ... any cheaper alternatives ??

You've got to sand down the doors before repainting anyway before repainting or staining the doors. Not too sure if paint stripper gels or chemicals would negatively impact the timber.

Have you tried using turpentine to soften up the paint?

Try turpentine, would most likely be your best bet and it doesn't cost too much. Use a little on a discreet location on the door and test its effects before you go all out. Just in case blink.gif

Why you need to completely remove the oil paint on a door?

Just scrap down the lossen parts and light sand paper to the whole door. Then it is good enough for you to repaint with new oil paint.

Hi there,

Im planning to paint my Double story hse with jotun paint. From what i search, im going for the midrange majestic true beauty series. Now I hope the sifus can help me with these:

1. What is the diff between the majestic true beauty sheen and true beauty matt in terms of look. Is true beauty sheen really very glossy compared to the matt finish?

2. My contactor says going for matt finish is safer since the sheen series is not good if the wall finish is not good. Any opinion on this?

3. Anyone got knowledge of good pricing for the true beauty series(sheen and matt). So far the best price i got are for several colours are:

true beauty sheen 5L = apprx rm128 - rm136
true beauty sheen 18L = apprx rm310 - rm330

So far i didnt get price for matt series. If anyone knw place to get good price for jotun true beauty pls let me knw. Thx.

I not sure Jotoplast Max is used for finishing or not.

All depends on your decision. Jotaplast M is a water base Paint which is a lot cheaper compare with acrylic Paint. If dusty mostly due to 2 reasons. Wall Moisture content high or painter mixed excess water with the Paint.

Does anyone know how to strip off old paint from the existing house interior? I plan to apply sealer before putting on new coat of paint. I have no idea how to strip off the old paint? Do we use sand paper?

Just use scrapper to scrap off the loose paint. It is not required to strip off the entire old paint to apply sealer.

It will have the uneven surface between bare cement and the old paint.

Try use the paint stripper. It come in a can. Apply with brush, wait for few minute and scrap it out.

But I not sure the paint stripper can be use on the emulsion paint. Have to try it out. Cause mostly paint stripper selling here is for oil paint.

Last time I still can buy the paint stripper for emulsion paint. Very fast to strip out the paint completely. But I don't no where to buy now.

The question is, is it necessary to remove the "good condition" old paint in order to repaint an existing wall?
Old paint will not create a visible uneven surface. Cause the thickness of paint film is in micron. If got uneven surface probably is due to skimcoat or cement plaster peel off already.

No need if the existing paint adhere strong to the base.

Exactly, that is why no need to headache and spend time on how to remove the "good" existing paint.
The meaning of good, means a good substrate.

Your contractor is right. Go for the matte finish. Sheen is a gloss type paint, any imperfections on your wall such as wavy surface, indentations, etc... Will all be very visible especially when under lights.

Some can accept the small imperfections but if your wall not at least skim coated before painting true beauty sheen, imperfections would almost be a definite.
