yep totally agree....dont bother with the ph so much. Ph stability is more important than achieving and maintaining desirable ph for the certain aro.

Our water ph is naturally avg 7.5

so keeping it in that range is easiest and trouble free. in my past i oso panic like siao cuz my ph was 7.8 and now after 5 months oledy its dropped to 7.6 (verly little) and getting closer to my tap water ph which is like 7.4-7.6

so yah, just let it go down....for me all i do is just keep a bag of cc in there and thats it....just a handfull only for ph stabalization. i used to care about dkh and ph and even calcium levels =.="....now i just dun care at all...so long as doing wc every week is good oledy. and wash filter every 2-3 months

for me i add azoo aro vitamin soln to boost appetite

so whats your current ph? so long as it is swimming around and the breathing is not like rapid and is calm is ok oledy wan. If your ph is like mine which started 7.8...just leave a bag with handfull of coral chips in there is ok oledy wan...it will slowly drop.
The cc is there is just make the ph drop slowly only

the coral chips can get at lfs wan, most of them give you free.

but just a handfull is enuf cuz like mine your ph is also on the high side.
Cc will only make ph of water maximum 8 as thats the ph value of cc.

So since its already on the high side, it wont go up any higher, best time to put in the cc....just a handfull is more than enuf...i put like as much as my one hand can grab only.

The salt and the kp leaves extract no issues. but i wont go into using those in my personal opinion cuz its troublesome since it directly affects the ph of the water at almost instantly. You gotta be very very careful adding those in...and you'll need a ph pen and meter to monitor it.

Mine is a cr/br aro which i never put those things. Just simple blue salt and thats it lol.
Sometimes i will use azoo arowana live water conditioner lol. but frankly i dont see any differences so i dun plan to purchase any of that anymore lol

In terms of nutrition i percieve it as cost effective....but its not necessary la imo, just safer and more nutritous than live foods and of course easy to feed with lol.

Mmm i think all aro vita's cost about the same, on avg its close to rm50 i think. I have to go back and check if the price tag still on my azoo aro vita bottle lol. I'll post it when i get back.

the current in water will definetly give it some excercise but dun go overboard loe, just like us human on a treadmill jogging oso we need to have rests, cant be jogging all day long 24/7 rite lol.
In terms of increasing its hunger, i guess it wud, and yeah it shud affect the growth rate but not to any significant degree....i'm guessing it wud become leaner and muscular (see how you want it to look like bruce lee or hulk hogan loe ) but with regards to growth on length i believe that comes in time and genes, not by the excercise.

As for the aro going beserk i'm not much of an expert here cuz my aro is calm but only will get a bit intimidated if i wave my palms around the glass.
In your case, maybe it needs to settle in and have to give it some time to get used to you.

other factors can include the lighting - try to give it some rest with the lights. Like mine the lights are timed to turn on at 12pm and go off at 11pm. Therefore it gets the lights off during night time , i sleep it sleep

Also the noise level or human traffic around the tank
kids are very scary !!


Other than that you can try adding in some salt to help its repiratory functions.

they make the aquarium a little bit like moon light shine lol.

guess diff aro just diff behaviour guah.

mine is generally calm and relaxed ever since i got it....ph was 7.8, no blackwater etc.

Bro frenly, i use ph pen lol

for me performing wc is totally almost effortless.
i sweat only cuz its hot ">.>

to be frank with you, i dun really get the 1/2 tank fill thingy, if thats the case then you definitely gotta climb higher and reach lower which ya...is definitely tiring. just try to slowly increase the water volume weekly. like increase it by 10% every week while performing your 20% wc....conitinue till its like your 90% of volume capacity for your 522 tank.

My wc procedure is like this...
1) i use the water sucking pump tube thingy and connect it to my window, so the water is being sucked to the outside and fall on the road to the drainage pipe around the house.
2) once 20% wc is done, remove the water tube sucking thingy and then add in the correct dosage of ac for 25% wc (please note that the 5% is to account for the extra 5% water i'm adding in later for water evaporation case)
3) after adding in ac, i will wait for 1-2 minutes then go to my toilet next door and take the 12 ft pipe connected from my tap connected from the water reserve at the roof of my house and then pull it to the aquarium and at the end of the tube i attach a holder ( you can get this at lfs, rm15 i believe..its blue and works like a screw clamp)
4) after attaching the tube holder and clamping it to the glass side, i will turn on the water from the tap and let the water flow in.
5) once the water has reached the desired water level. i will turn off the tap. unclampt the tube/hose holder and detach it and bring the hose back to the toilet.


and thats it...done. there was no carrying buckets or lotsa climbing or sweating at all.....the most i had to carry was the 'water sucking tube thingy' and the water hose.

ya, slowly week by week increase the tank volume...

i dont get why they insist to have 1/2 tank or something with regards to acclimating aros...its really nonsense to me...
when i got my aro my tank was 90% water full all the way and the aro was calm as anything totally zen mode

maybe its cuz i'm using azoo arowana live water? lol no idea


what i did discover was that if you leave the aquarium lights on at night, and turn off the lights in the room outside...it will start to panic....

I was driving back home and thinking of my lovely arowana....
and how it was starving since i've been trying to get it to take the hikari aro sticks with no success for a week oledy and it was breaking my heart doing so

so i decided to go and kepo kepo at the lfs which i always do...and tot wadahek might as well try a diff type of pellet type food...
so since i felt azoo brand is good i bought azoo arowana 9 in 1 foodsticks...
reason was cuz that there might be the case that my aro just totally doesnt like hikari taste/smell at all...

ok so when i got home...i threw in one azoo stick....totally ignored it lol =.=" i was like farrrrkk...
then i noticed that my kerai fish which are usually very piggish will sure eat anything oso not taking notice of it....
maybe its totally new lol they dunno tis food yet hahaaha...

so i threw in a handfull...and can see a bit of the oil comming out from the sticks on the surface (which is what is supposed to be attracting the fish to come eat it)....and sure enuf...after a few minutes the kerai started to attack the azoo sticks...

then guess what....my aro cudnt tahan the smell and oso went to chew chew chew!!! i was like...."Yataaaaaaaa!!!"

but then i noticed it was chewing it till it was all in peices lol, not really eating it...just chew chew chew and the peices flying out of the mouth lol...
i was like faaaaaaaaaaarkkkkk....

oh well...at least its progress...

oh ya i got the azoo sticks instead of hikari cuz hikari arowana food sticks apparently not much lfs sell it anymore due to fail with sale...

some of the lfs i visited around my place said they wont ever order and sell again...only hikari orlanda for goldfish and koi hikari they will continue but not for arowana...

so i tot wadaheck i better get something more available then having to drive all the way down to xlsa to get more hikari lol...


however if you ask me, feeding forzen bloodworms cube to live ghost shrimps, and then feeding it to the aro directly (make sure you break the razor horn) is by far the most nutritous food you can feed your arowana...but its obviously costly and time consuming la..

the left over ghost shirmp fed with blood worm you can just dry freeze them and feed them the next day wan....least thats what i used to do on weekeds when i'm free...

but for the moment i'm gonna stick to azoo foodstick for a month or two till it really accepts it readilly then only will go back to giving it that too.

well, those breeders have huuuuugggee ponds and natural living habitat which provide the nutrients and lotsa excercise. Thier pond water is also dark and thick like; ie green/brown mostly...

where as ours is in a aquarium which is less swim space and water is impossible to immitate like those at ponds.

same like us humans...
naturally we can eat raw food like meat, insects and vegetables. In fact if we live that way we might actually live longer and healthier...just not as beautiful...and in the wild we have lotsa excercise, like hunting, scavenging, building place to stay and protecting territories etc...

but we are living in modern-conditioned enviroment...and our foods also changed...we now eat cooked food...cleaner...safer...less prone to disease....but we excercise less of anything physical...and get fat easily and live shorter life...etc lol


so you see...its the same thing haahaha

i have observed comparisons with dogs...

my friend feeds his dog with pedigree and other ready processed foods....

my dad feeds my dogs with house made foods....which normally human consume...

the difference is my friends dogs look healthier and are more active...
mine...slobbish and not active =.="
and funny thing is if i total the cost up...my dog eats at higher cost than my fren's dog which eats cheaper with the ready processed foods...

well...this is my theory tho...just my 2cents lol but gonna try it anyways...cuz i believe its safer and easier...and more convenient.

Daniel, judging that your aro jumped out it cud be trying to recover and its sign of swimming against the bubbles cud mean that its trying to get more o2.

try increasing the aeration in the tank if possible.

do add some salt ya...i dunno about cooking salt but i use those blue medicated salt (can be scam or not with the blue salt as in no diff with normal white salt but i seriously cudnt care less as its only rm2 extra, and i like the color anyways lol)
