Add a shotgun/rifle to the pic and say you are army brat and i'd believe you hahahaha

hey anyone using ph meter? tongue.gif can advise where you buy, what brand is good and how much etc?

Added on April 7, 2010, 8:07 pmhmnn wierd enuf i went around 5 different lfs who advised that they use the yellow powder also many times, one of them even demo'd me by putting some of the yellow powder into the tank of his own arowana and assured me it doesnt kill beneficial bacteria at all @.@

oh well...guess i'll have to wait and see, cuz they all advised that adding in active carbon is not good for the arowana in the first place :S

haha yah G.I.Moe!!!

hmnn, ...i cant really understand what they saying in Chinese when i asked why but my basic understanding is that it takes certain trace elements outta the water which is essential to the arowana :S

Welcome leggedy smile.gif

Great to see more arowana enthusiasts biggrin.gif

my advise on getting arowana is to take it slow and easy...dont be too quick to buy the aro

If not enough budget then try saving first and then when have enough only buy the arowana you really want, cuz u must remember that the aro you pick is gonna be your long time friend that you will love to care for biggrin.gif
ntg spells love better than pet and master ^^ thumbup.gif

In the mean time while waiting for budget, you can prep your aquarium, ensure you have the right water parameters, select and do background color based on your future aro you want (ie. red aro = black bg, sb = white etc)

By the way, how big is your tank and what type of filtration you are using?

Interested with the bottom dragon fish (Bichir) too? blush.gif hehehe

wah, house lizards even...can share any tips on how to catch cicak?

screw the pellets ler lol, i telling you even the insects (ie. sw and crickets hate them) =.="

for me i indirectly feed via starving insects to eat the pellets and hiding them in the mp's

now i hide carrots in the mp liao lol

some pic of my aro...

something really bad happened...and it's a f!@# up shit...i was taking picture of it..then i opened the cover, and then i heard my ringtone,
so i went for the phone..and forgotten to cover it back...when i reached my phone, the call were hang up..then after putting down my mobile,
i heard some weird sound, "plak plak plak"...and i wonder wat was that?  then i realize my aro had jumped out...WTF....i quickly grab it and put it back into the aquarium...
but it was too late for it's hard fin ray and caudal fin..the hard fin ray was totally torn off..and the caudal fin was torn 70%.. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

oh gawd man....i feel for you sad.gif

i know this is gonna be hard for you but its better if you can just learn from the mistake.

sometimes when i go off for a bit also i worry about the aro jumping out, but its not the case for mine, probly cuz it feels safe (as in no threats).

How did the jump out of the tank relate to the torn fins?

hmnn, if its young then centipede wont fit unless its very small centipede haha. i think you better feed it sw and mp while its recovering.

my suggestion is to seperate the oscars from the aro....i have a bad feeling about the oscar with injured aro :S

on the other hand, guys.....my tank temp is like at avg 33deg.C

how are yours fairing with the heat?

will adding a fan to a 5x2.5x2 tank help to cool the temp down?
cuz when i asked the lfs they say that it also depends on the room temp, cuz the fans can only bring it down to room temp....at least thats what they think >.<

i got no idea, anyone got any experience with using fans to cool the water?

lol its leggedy ler not izwan lol

neways dont use cooking salt bro, better you get those medicated salt from the lfs. A container costs about rm4.

I've used it for long time oledy and been slaping in about 1 soup spoon every 20% change of water or sometimes never bother lol (just take note of the fish breathing calmness...if its not feeling calm in terms of the breathing then add some salt to help it a bit...but plz take note that its not the remedy so dont go jacking in crazy loada salt lol)

not much need for msn ler leggedy, i usually keep this forum page open at my office wan lol so i will reply quite a bit wan unless really busy cuz my work is project basis so there will be free time and there will be hell time...

also you can use an idea i posted a few pages back about keeping a container of worms hanging at the top of the tank under your protective covering of course....
It believe it will help to make the arowana if not even your oscars interested with the container and it will do max jump at the container and not elsewhere.
Works pretty well for me and has kept my aro looking upwards for long time biggrin.gif

yah bro i wud seriously consider putting in a column to separate the oscars from the injured aro :S

i dont know but its just one of those bad feelings....cuz oscars like piranhas are attracted to the scent of blood from other injured fish.
In nature, the injured ones are the ones to get taken down first....survival of the fittest.

maybe its not used to the worms, better if you ask the lfs you bought your aro from what they normally feed it.

If they were pellet trained right from the start you might actually be ruining your chance lol....pellet trained are the most convenient.

Otherwise it cud be that its not adjusted to the environment yet, have you tried crickets? Mine goes bonkers for crickets and sw.
I try to avoid giving the sw and crickets these days cuz mine after taking sw it wont eat the mp, have to re-train it to take mp every so often i feed the sw.

lol if your aro's were pellet trained from the start i suggest sticking to the pellets lol cuz pellets give very good nutrition and are convenient for us to feed them. Most of us have very very (EXTREMELY) difficult time trying to get aro's to eat whats good for them lol

Better ask what type of pellets and try out like small packets of rm15 or so hikari etc

if yours really is pellet trained then lucky you!! lol

Its not too late if they are still rejecting the other foods!!!

@bensow
lol those things cost as much as the arowana itself
mostly bought by wealthy business ppl who wana add fung sui deco around the office to impress clients when they come into their office tongue.gif

oh, haha the hand size wan ar?
tot you meant those bigs ones i saw at mid val the other day at display, crazy expensive lol
I got crystal glass turtle instead tongue.gif bought for rm80 looked really great in planted tank haha, now i just use as paper weight kakaka

@leggedy
both hikari and tetra are good tongue.gif
just make sure you get smallest sized packets first to try out
having a combination of pellet types is good. As for comparison i think its just the taste, the brands all boast superior nutrition but really la...how much nutrition can you really put into those things lol, its oledy damn good either ways imho.

I believe there are also other brands of arowana pellets wan, just make sure to check the nutrition info at the back and compare with others. biggrin.gif
