hi guys, i'm pretty new here, so hope you guys can give some pointers icon_rolleyes.gif

my brother is crazy into weightlifting. his birthday is coming up soon and i wanna buy him a new pair of shoes thats suitable for weightlifting. his previous pair of shoes were converse shoes, i asked him why and he said that the shoes should be flat heeled? its his birthday and i wanna buy him a nicer pair of shoes but yet "flat heeled" too. i use a pair of puma combat shoes for my taekwondo class ( http://www.shop.puma.com/Jiyu-V-Women'...d.html?search=1 ) , which are kinda flat, but not sure if its gonna suit him rclxub.gif these are the shoes i have in mind for him http://www.shop.puma.com/Jiyu-V-Combat-Sho...d.html?search=1
are they any good? or should i still buy him a pair of converse shoes?

Since he already knows you're getting him shoes, take him to the store so he can try them on in person. Certain things should never be purchased without a trial run!

still wondering, if i were to do weight liftings, and at the same time i do some cardio, say on a treadmill, will it be ok ok if i use my futsal shoes?
i thought i read somewhere saying flat shoes ain;t good for ur knees, since the absorption is not that really good compare with those specially design for jogging. at the same time, i read that if u were to do say asquats or deadlift, it is preferred that u use barefoot or flat shoes..so can someone help me on this, coz at one point, while i was joggin using my futsal shoes, my knees and legs do feel like sharp needle cuck la..sad.gif..eventhough, i take vitamins and calcium everyday..sorry if this question sounds dumb..

if it really causes pain at ur knees, perhaps u should bring two pairs of shoes? one for weight training one for jogging/cardio? i do agree that flat shoes are not so good for jogging, otherwise there wont be nike air/reebok hexride etc..

Puma/converse are more "cross trainer" like
If you want more barefoot style then feelmax, vibrams.
If you want weight lifting shoes, there are many from nike, adidas zhangkong, dowin

Again, are you doing weightlifting as a sport or lifting weights?

What you decide to do will result in a choice/recommendation.
Its like using soccer boots for golf and golf shoes for sprinting.

All have spikes but they're design for the sport.

THIS, is weightlifting.

Weightlifting has only a few shoes worth considering. Adidas, Nike, for the high ends. Do-Wins, Asics for the others. Risto sports have horrible shoes, mine warped

I don't see anything wrong with futsal shoes. I don't think the cause of pain is due to the shoes. Knee pain is also be caused by muscle imbalances, tight muscles, etc. and where is the pain coming from ? upper, lateral, down patella(knee cap)

for instance if its coming from the down part of the patella , tight rectus femoris (maybe) , stretch them. I better stop here. It's dangerous to diagnose online, get help if it;s debilitating.

zzz... pizza is talking about adidas/nike WEIGHTLIFTING shoes, not those common shoes which u see in nike adiddas shop, those WL shoes can easily cost you more than RM400-600. and i think it to be ordered from oversea.

lifting weights then.
Just get a converse chuck or puma which has a flat sole.
This can double up as a running shoe.

Lifting weights is going to a gym and moving some heavy shit around.
weight lifting is doing the snatch and clean and jerk.

I've got a torn lateral meniscus. I'm probably visiting Jonathan in Singapore to ask him about it. IF that's no help, I might find a CHEK practitioner in KL and see what they say about it. I'm going to get a bottle of Sinew-Plex from him when I get there end of this or next month. Previously when it warm, it won't hurt. Now warm not warm, also pain. Squat also difficult. Might need operation if all doesn't work.

man that sucks. Ice the joint, heat the muscle they say. Ice it and aspirin to alleviate the pain. I hope a speedy recovery for you, it gets disheartening at times, I broke my ankle around march this year, it's been a long way rehabbing it and still can't get past the occasional "mind F*ck" during squats.

How have u been training pizza ?

Just train as usual. Hard, heavy and stupid.
When it's warm its still quite fine. Relatively comfortable with the wraps (medium tight) and the sleeves (tight sleeves). May be getting a pair of Tommy Kono Neoprene sleeves if I can contact my Singaporean friend to get it before he gets back from US.
