While talking on the phone with a battery of 50%, the iPhone went dead. Nothing.. No sign of activity even when connected to the computer or the charger.

This is bad. Have to go Maxis center today.

It is 3Gs model. Got it in mid September. So it is less than 60 days. Tried all sort of stuff, including soft and hard reset.

Went to MAxis Gardens and they told me to wait to get replacement set from Singapore. And they told me to wait for 2-4 weeks...

Added on November 12, 2009, 10:09 pmI wonder how many people have this problem with a dead iPhone....

That is what they told me but I asked them how sure are they it is not a refurbished unit.... The answer is not certain.

They would prolly have to invite you to their manufacturing facility just to convince you its not a refurbished unit.

@CLL,
So it's confirmed as a defect and not just battery indicator issue?

I talked to a guy from Switch earlier. Apparently during their training prior to the launch of the iphone, they were told that any warranty claims by the customers regarding the iphone will be dealt on a 1 to 1 replacement basis on the spot.

However, due to the current low volume of stocks, that is currently not possible...customers still have to wait for any warranty claims.....

1 to 1 replacement yes...but not on the spot (according to Maxis)

They want to send to Singapore Apple to verify it first. And then they will send one over (according to the Maxis CS guy)

@tinkerbel
Not a battery issue. I tried all sorts of nonsense. If it is battery, maybe battery just died which is possible but I think a bit unlikely.

my friend had the same problem, sent it back to Maxis, and waited 4 weeks, got a sms/call from Maxis asking him to pick up, and sadly he got back the same set of his, reason is because he jailbroken his iPhone and void the software warranty, so he got back his old same set without fixing the problem.. so thats a waste of 4 weeks..and what he has now is a faulty iPhone....how sad..

Under those circumstances, it is your friend who is at fault for not restoring the phone before sending in for warranty claim. But what I don't understand is why it took Maxis 4 weeks to return the unit.

Not totally in defense of the iPhone but from experience, the other equivalent and I use this term loosely, phones have more problems which are even more difficult to rectify most times. Tell me also, which other phone has a one-for-one exchange policy?

Lastly, if you actually know what to do instead trial and error, there should not be too much problems affecting the iPhone. In any event, which phone, for that matter, product which does not have problems?

Don't be scared of such problems. I am sure mine is the minority and the majority of iPhones out there are fine and stable. Sometimes, you just can't tell. It is an excellent phone and an excellent smartphone. Just that in my case, something went wrong someway... rclxub.gif

True, that's a nightmare for any Maxis jailbreak users. If they can't even bootup to restore in the first place, then it's big risk to take.

Then isn't it a non starter by sending in a jailbroken iPhone for warranty claim?
