guys, pls enlighten me how IW will benefit from taking out dedicated servers?

cheese has milked me some infos about this but i still dont get it, why is it so hard for them to implement something that is already great?

to make consoles and PCs look the same? so that consoles dont whine about being minority? equalization? both will have no mods whatsoever?

so that consoles have no possible option to jump the PC boat for optimized gameplay?

"dude, we on PC have mouse, keyboard, text chat and dedicated server!"

pls, enlighten me...

haha, true that. But again, limiting accessibility of a game never wins the longevity game.

As for the steam account, i would only have 1 game anyhow, since i hate steam that much. smile.gif

I only have TF2 in my steam tongue.gif

uh, benefits them in a sense they dont have to release intellectual property that may be host to pirated copies of the game.

Plenty of pirated servers out there for COD4, if you havent noticed.

u think that crackers wont just mod the game and make it "dedicated server read"? Hell, torrents are already out for SP. just give it few hours. we might just see COD6 cracked servers coming up.

Protip: You actually need dedicated server executables for that to work. Changing a few variables/lines of code so games don't run through authentication is miles different from adding in completely new functionality.

True, but again. I'll wait and see. This is turning into some drama IW vs PC users. It just started one day ago. Pc community might start hitting back after game release. (since before game release they tried all petitions, forums, etc).

oh....so its about piracy....

so, from what theyve achieved.. there is no way MW2 can be cracked to be played via dedicated servers la hor...

n yeah, torrents already up and running, theres even 1 with 'no steam required' somore...

Add together the fact that they've encrypted the files, removed a server browser and stored all matchmaking files on THEIR server, it would be likely we'll probably only ever see some 3rd party hack of dedicated servers perhaps by the next MW game.

IW may be ruthless money grubbing assholes, but they're certainly not stupid.

Also don't forget disabling console so the game can't be L4D'd! But it's okay since they disabled the console so "people will play the game the way we balanced it", has nothing to do with anti-piracy. Real subtle there, IW.

Edit: Before it gets too far, despite what I said about "don't buy this game" can we not discuss how to get pirated copies of the game in this thread? Yeah, it's obvious the scene is all over the game, and that anyone with half a brain would be able to google it. Let's just leave it at that.

If you dont buy it now, you'd probably see this game about 100% cheaper in 3-6 months, probably going as low as RM 30 in the budget corner at youbeli.com.my in 9-12 months.

Falk has become a swear word now? HAHHAA

Hope you're right. I'll be holding my money back till IW gives us a Dedi-patch or if the price drops to sub-RM150.

Props to all of you who'd sacrificed your cash on the altar just to give us some review. Hope the cash cows have fun with your money, falk you Bobby Kotick!

I normally dont post in forums but after playing MW2 multiplayer for 15 minutes I found this website.

WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO THE MULTIPLAYER!!!

I buy games to play online and since all the other COD titles were great multiplayer I figured this was a home run. I install...boot up....try to get online and see.

IWNET

What is this crap? I got tossed into a server with 6 people in it. Is this a joke? Is something wrong? Where is the server list?

The game itself looks great but I bought this to play multiplayer and lemme tell you. This aint multiplayer.

I dont think I'll be back to the forums but I wanted to post my displeasure. I wish I found these forums a week ago

I found this post on the official forum, it just amuses me how ignorant people can be. Activition is definitely cashing in on people like him. laugh.gif laugh.gif

After playing a few hours of MP .. I realized that one of the multiplayer maps was directly recycled from Cod 2 ... not that thats a bad thing but ... and most of the maps are full of campfest spots ... and yes expect either tons of fun or tons of lag ... if you;re lucky ur host will be from SG or Mas.. if not ur screwed

OK MP with 1 bar u still can get 1:1 ratio. 2 bars its 1.5:1 ratio... IW servers r not that bad.

By that I mean, I get 1 bar literally 2/3rds the time. Of those, 1/3 is 'still playable although f***ing horrid but I'll still stick it through because I'm a masochist', and the other 1/3 is "look ma, I'm learning how to shuffle on the computer!" and you find out parts the maps are actually made of super-elastic tar, springing you back randomly every few seconds. Thus, the lagometer does absolutely jack - it doesn't even tell you if the game is playable or not off the bat. You have to run around for a while and see if you don't spring back and forth like the Roadrunner on an acid trip.

p.s. nothing to do with IW servers.

p.p.s. it's still complete dogshit I have no idea how you'd put up with it.

Tunnels kinda work because the connection goes to one destination (i.e. Frostmourne, US West datacenter)

With hosts being arbitrarily chosen in all 8 compass directions tunnels aren't going to become nearly as effective.

You realize that most WoW tunnels are carefully selected to give the best pings to one specific location, right?
