QUOTE(McCabePlace @ May 12 2010, 01:13 PM) Berjaya Langkawi Thanks for the detailed review Plus points - Near to Oriental Village, Cable car and Seven wells. Within walking distance but I rather drive out if renting a car. Close to the nature, if you like it. Nice beach. Pool area has a nice environment but maintenance is a bit lacking. Negative points - a bit of a run down, so you don't expect 5 stars tho it is rated as such in some hotel booking sites. I stayed in one unit where the air-cond broke down a few times in the day and they do not have an extra unit to change me to coz it was peak period. Calling the maintenance crew also took them quite some time to come though they came via motorbike. Be prepared to walk for a distance and uphill from the hotel lobby as the chalets are up in the hills. If you want those closer to the main building/lobby area, you will lose the sereness/tranquility of nature. They have free buggy but then sometimes waiting for them is time for the mosquitoes to fest on you. Call them ahead from your chalet and let them know the time to pick you up. Be out there to wait for them, otherwise they will presume that you can't wait and had walked down yourself 'coz I suspect they also collect a few calls before moving coz they usually arrive with people already on baord. If sometimes you walk half way and chance upon them, you can flag them down. From the lobby, they will normally try to wait until the buggy is full before they depart. Car park is far away from lobby, about max 5 minutes walk and it is rather dark at night. So, if renting a car, you can choose to drop off your passengers at the lobby before driving back to the car park, if security is not an issue for you (it is quite safe coz Berjaya is end of the road). But don't come back too late, if peak season, you will be parked at Oriental Village coz their parking is very small and that is very far tho' at times, you might be lucky enough to see their buggy picking up people there and jump in. Taxis (Vans in LGK) also take the opportunity to try to charge more tho the standard rates is already pre-printed in the destination/fare list. This is more prevalent during early morning or evening hours. But if you rent a car, then you won't have this problem but another new problem is driving far2 to eat at reasonable price. Food at the hotel is rather pricey. Definatley gonna rent a car! |

Aseania is not bad & spacious bck in I think ~ 2001/2002, when they 1st started biz. I was there during this time - well at that moment only 1/2 completed. The only bad thing is it's not a Beach resort that's all..Located exactly at the junction not far from the aquarium. but the beach is another 200-300m distance away.
During that time, I got it from those airport/Jetty agents (Haha forgotten liao where I got it) for ~RM120/nite. |

The prices for car rental has definitely gone up. This is the LEGAL car rental approx rates:
City, Vios = RM80-90 MyVi = RM60-70 Viva/Wira = RM60-70 It all depends on your bargaining skills. They will all play dumb and says 'you can ask around but the price is all the same', true enough, I walk to every counter and they offered all the same price. The initial quoted rate are ridiculous, walk away and bargain like there's no tomorrow. You can walk out of the terminal and all those illegal car rental will come to you. They are a lot cheaper but there's a few roadblocks during my 3 days visit there. So it's up to you whether you are comfortable with it. I paid a little over the odds but it was quite a nice car to drive, no problems, car is well maintained and the guy is quite friendly too (TELUK Yu Car Rental). One valuable lesson is to go to pantai cenang and buy all your trips and tickets there, it's so much cheaper than buying at the counter or prepaid tickets. I paid everything in advance and found out the hard way. Pantai Cenang Water Sport Activities: Parasailing = RM50 Banana Boat = RM20 Jet Ski 700cc 30mins = RM100-150 (depends on cc) The best beaches in Langkawi are in Tanjung Rhu and Datai Beach. The worst is possibly Cenang, too much pollution and it is dirty, too commercialise. |

hey guys...
thank God for this thread... it has been so helpful... believe it o not, i've taken bits and pieces from the forums and placed them in Excel as my upcoming trip planner... having said that, i have these plans...we have 6 in the group.. Arriving Langkawi 24-June last flight. Immediate plan is to hunt for cars... and drive down to hotel.. Accommodation: 2 days at Kuah (Langkawi Seaview @ RM 195/night) and Malibest @ RM 150 + RM 120) Plans are still pretty much in WIP... but mostly will be following the suggested itineraries by Lowyatian!... if possible, please suggest or comment if the accommodation above is okay... and any websites to get better rates... I've tried langkawi-resorts, cuti, agoda as well as asiaroom... |

How many rooms, you didn't mention. I would suggest Bayview Hotel, right in the middle of the commercial area. Or maybe this: http://www.lelong.com.my/Auc/List/2007-01D...A-APARTMENT.htm Plans are still pretty much in WIP... but mostly will be following the suggested itineraries by Lowyatian!... if possible, please suggest or comment if the accommodation above is okay... and any websites to get better rates...
