Hi buddy ~
Just return from Langkawi and as promise an update of the current place ~ I'll start with car rental 1st.. dunno where i put their name card but is something call colour holidays or what, i will update correct name later, Got a car from them wira (M) - RM170 for 4D 3N, never tell me that i should return on the same time i rent that is 12pm, then i return at 1.30pm they charge me Rm10, lazy to talk just pay them only. Card condition is ok but the both front auto mirrow down only got passenger where we are only travelling 2 person + lock also problem so no good to me.. Get island hopping for Rm30 per pax but saw in pantai cenang all agencies selling at Rm2 but got underwater world for Rm26 which they are selling Rm28 & cable car at Rm14 where u buy at oriental village cost Rm15. So not recomend them unless u just wan to buy the underwater & cable car ticket from them. 2nd - Accomodation Holiday Villa for 2night which is good, book deluxe room an got upgraded up to studio room (pic provide upon request) cox i'm a hotelier. the room is spacious, clean and facilities is nice but since i'm from shangri-la group i wont call it 4 star but only 3 star, staff are friendly but poor in communication and whole company employee are only malay (not racist but found it strange), i also drive around to check nearby hotel which is the same range, Awana, Lanai, Asiana,Frangippani are no match for Holiday villa in terms of rooms spacious & cleaniness but Franggipani is like a challet type, Awana has the best seaview the rest sorry..but for rooms it will be definitely Holiday Villa. 3rd - Meals My bad did not recall if it's Orkid Rea in kuah or Pantai Cenang end up in Pantai Cenang which cost both of us Rm131 meals, cut throat really a tourist trap. Try out tomato for lunch, nth special just enviroment, tomato soup are just so so and cannot compare to the one in Shangri-La Rasa Sayang Feringgi Grill Restaurant and tomato cost Rm100. Last try out Kauboi which is at Rm77 but meals like for 3 person, we can't finish and it's nice Update for idunnolol, 18 y old glenfiddisch.Rm165 at Wawasan kuah the chepest among all Dimple Rm100 at Wawasan Kuah the cheapest and Johnnie walker gold label also at wawasan kuah the cheapest Rm150 with box & Rm130 without box, if i'm not mistaken, i wrote it somewhere and place it inside my envople with all my receipt but it's gone now |

Frangipani used to be a no star rated resort & previously known as Langkawi Village resort. I was there during the late 90's. The room actually very spacious but very dull looking & the aircon- my god..ancient 700HP wall mounted type..damn noisy...I like the beach & the tiny swimming overlooking the beach.. very picturique. However since the name change, the rate & the star rating also change..haha..Last time only RM110/nite!

Dimple Rm100 at Wawasan Kuah the cheapest and Johnnie walker gold label also at wawasan kuah the cheapest Rm150 with box & Rm130 without box, With or without box, something I will avoid next time. They are collecting empty boxes again! whole company employee are only malay (not racist but found it strange), 95 percent population in Langkawi is Malay. So it is not suprising. Glenfiddish is 165 both in the zon and cocovalley, while the dimple is same price with cocovalley. The only alcohol that is cheaper in wawasan would be johnnie walker , It is cheaper at Rm 5. So i guess if your in pantai cenang and is not adamant to go to kuah for shopping, It can be done at underwater world as 2/3 selected liqour is par price while the other is only RM 5 cheaper |

It was taken over by some other company and refurbished and now it is a super duper expensive resort. Check their rates. I think they cater to overseas market more since I rarely see their ads locally. It used to be a 'projek' venue because you can sneak into the rooms without the front desk knowing. |

I heard some news from other forum. They say those JPJ caught a lot of those illegal car rental. So now most of the car rental have permit (Although still got some is non permit).
Then they say as the government starting to control all the car rental in Langkawi, those rate become fix. Can't up or down. <-- Not this is this is real or not. Example: Rent a Kancil(M) for 3D2N - Min RM120. I think this will be the minimum rate for the small car. |

QUOTE(apisgogo @ May 11 2010, 05:51 PM) Bro, Berjaya Langkawi appreciate if you can give a little bit review on your stay @ berjaya langkawi. Im going there end of the month Plus points - Near to Oriental Village, Cable car and Seven wells. Within walking distance but I rather drive out if renting a car. Close to the nature, if you like it. Nice beach. Pool area has a nice environment but maintenance is a bit lacking. Negative points - a bit of a run down, so you don't expect 5 stars tho it is rated as such in some hotel booking sites. I stayed in one unit where the air-cond broke down a few times in the day and they do not have an extra unit to change me to coz it was peak period. Calling the maintenance crew also took them quite some time to come though they came via motorbike. Be prepared to walk for a distance and uphill from the hotel lobby as the chalets are up in the hills. If you want those closer to the main building/lobby area, you will lose the sereness/tranquility of nature. They have free buggy but then sometimes waiting for them is time for the mosquitoes to fest on you. Call them ahead from your chalet and let them know the time to pick you up. Be out there to wait for them, otherwise they will presume that you can't wait and had walked down yourself 'coz I suspect they also collect a few calls before moving coz they usually arrive with people already on baord. If sometimes you walk half way and chance upon them, you can flag them down. From the lobby, they will normally try to wait until the buggy is full before they depart. Car park is far away from lobby, about max 5 minutes walk and it is rather dark at night. So, if renting a car, you can choose to drop off your passengers at the lobby before driving back to the car park, if security is not an issue for you (it is quite safe coz Berjaya is end of the road). But don't come back too late, if peak season, you will be parked at Oriental Village coz their parking is very small and that is very far tho' at times, you might be lucky enough to see their buggy picking up people there and jump in. Taxis (Vans in LGK) also take the opportunity to try to charge more tho the standard rates is already pre-printed in the destination/fare list. This is more prevalent during early morning or evening hours. But if you rent a car, then you won't have this problem but another new problem is driving far2 to eat at reasonable price. Food at the hotel is rather pricey. |
