There are lotsa counters (probably ~10) at the main exit/arrival hall.. So really difficult to check which one are bad..depending on luck.. even if you get the best car last year from a car rental, dun put a good hope that this year u will get the best also from the same operator..
It's just like nite bazzar there..those companies will shout at any tourist coming out from the arrival hall..so just check & hope to get the newest car..ask around atleast 3-4 booths. the condition almost similar to those shouting games at LCCT arrival halls by those competingt buses, limo & travel agencies..haha |

Just came back from langkawi. My frens stayed at holiday leisure which is quite far from cenang, so i stayed at cenang with my gf. Stayed at kedawang beach inn for 70 a night, the place is quite hidden but its on the beach so to speak, then switch to ab motel for 55 a night, cheap and clean, got tv and aircon but dont have hot shower but nvm its quite hot the weather. Rent a iswara for 130 for 4days. Airport car rental now not cheap after the govt clam down and require them to have license which mean higher cost. I manage to get cheap through a contact.

QUOTE(etigge @ Apr 26 2010, 01:11 PM) Everything's changed now..................sigh. etigge, thanks for the additional insider info...i patron kauboi since my first trip to LGK in the 90s...his prices tho increased but still very much cheaper than many places in LGK. Food is yummy and always get one dish FOC! Wonderland sudah naik kepala after it was featured in Flavours mag's LGK food guide a couple of yers back as being a good and cheap seafood place....probably people have different tastes coz i never liked Wonderland's dishes. Mat Sallehs also like there coz a lot of ppl recommend in some overseas forum...aiseh they really dunno the real Malaysian/Thai food!I never liked Wonderland's food but it was cheap and one thing malays eat there too as the whole cluster of eateries and the next one are all pork free as required by MDL. Kauboi's partner Ah Toong is the nephew of one of the biggest seafood supplier in Langkawi, probably that's why he is cheaper. Since Wonderland is also expensive now, they must have adopted the two tiered pricing, tourist and locals. The stall in front of the masjid (last time it was opposite) on the way to Mahsuri's tomb sells yummy delicacies like kuih muih, goreng pisang (slurp!!! I normally buy RM2 to RM3 and eat all myself until sore throat! >.<) and very cheap nasi lemak bungkus biasa. It started with RM0.10 per piece, now RM1 only get you 4 pieces. Now expanded big big liao...also featured in that Flavours LGK food guide, I showed to that Makcik, she was so surprised and she wanted my copy but soli lor...my only copy and I tried to get her one after back in KL but no more. When I bought that Flavours mag, I half expected her to be in there coz goreng pisang YUMMY! Car rental already became expensive due to the licensing. Last year I go already increased by like RM40-RM50 for the same make though off peak. Last time a lot of kereta sapu one, but now they 'legalise' most of them. Still got some sapu ones but then they make you walk far2 to get the car to avoid detection but LGK is a small place, they can detect whose car in the sapu pool and gang up to retaliate/report to JPJ as told by an ex-LGK kereta sapu guy now working in KL. Added on April 29, 2010, 12:05 amKelvin 5717, RM60 for all the dishes you mentioned at Kauboi, dun think possible. Unless you take out the lobster. I wrote dy the lobster price ma. To be able to taste a lobster, it needs to be at least 500gm coz the shell already damn heavy liao. For duty free, you just drive to the Pandak Mayah commercial area (directions already provided by Etigge) and stop your car near Water Garden (my everyday haunt in LGK). There are a few DFS there...Wawasan, Haji Ismail, Zeno, etc...I always walk around there to find out the best prices, sometimes buying something here and something there. On chocolates, please take note of the expiry date as noted by another forummer....those cheaper ones will expire in 3-6 months, so dont buy so much if you can't finish. Then on the way back to your hotel, got this Teow Soon Huat which once used to be the cheapest but not anymore. Big DFS attached to a shopping complex, can go jln2. I liked staying at Bayview coz just walk out to those shops but coming trip was booked into Awana...super far drive out to Kuah! Those restaurants in Pantai Cenang I don't fancy much also and more expensive. Will still drive down to kauboi....I must have my 'fix' there...XD This post has been edited by McCabePlace: Apr 29 2010, 12:05 AM |

Hey guys, posted this question earlier but here it is again. Please enlighten me.
"What is there to do at night? I know there are daily night markets there, worthwhile? And Pantai Cenang nightlife, what else can you do at night time?" If the price of car rental has gone up, is the TS able to edit the info on page 1. It will help answer alot of car rental questions here. I'm been stalking this thread for a while, planning my trip. Based on the recommendations here on seafood: Kauboi Restaurant (next to Teo Seafood Restaurant in Jln Padang Matsirat?) Orchid Ria Restaurant (in Jln Pantai Cenang, near Meritus Pelangi Beach Resort) Rootian Seafood Restaurant (89 Jalan Pandak Mayah 5, Kuah Town) This post has been edited by skulless: Apr 29 2010, 09:57 AM |

Bro, I give u sample price of liqour, Dont commit first in kuah town. I nearly made that mistake when i thought the price in underwater world was more expensive than kuah. I'd just like to know if wawasan duty free shop is cheaper or not, thats all
Beer can is at 1.7 . Bottled should be 3.9 for hoegardden. Malibu rum at 49. Dimple at 100. Glenfiddish at 165. Ciggies the same everywhere at 64. Cordon bleu at 365. You use those price is listed as base price and check if wawasan cheaper or not The zon was having promotion for australia cadbury bar where 2 is sold for RM 18. I cant find a better deal that that in LGK This post has been edited by idunnolol: Apr 30 2010, 01:43 AM |

I know there are daily night markets there, worthwhile? And Pantai Cenang nightlife, what else can you do at night time?" As for me, I practically do nothing at night except having drinks and lepak. If the price of car rental has gone up, is the TS able to edit the info on page 1. It will help answer alot of car rental questions here. I'm been stalking this thread for a while, planning my trip. Based on the recommendations here on seafood: Kauboi Restaurant (next to Teo Seafood Restaurant in Jln Padang Matsirat?) Kauboi is just beside Wonderland in Klana Mas clusters of commercial premises. 5 minutes walk to Teo Seafood and also Orchid Restaurant. ![]() Orchid Ria Restaurant (in Jln Pantai Cenang, near Meritus Pelangi Beach Resort) This is different from the Orchid I mentioned. This Orchid Ria also have nice food but a bit touristy. The Orchid in Kuah used to belong to them but they have since sold off to another, that's why the name is the same. Rootian Seafood Restaurant (89 Jalan Pandak Mayah 5, Kuah Town) This guy claims to be working for 'Lou Teen' in Loke Yew but after a while of hassling he denied it eventually. My in-laws stays in Loke Yew Flats so I know. His food is so-so only and a bit on the expensive side. His location is the winner actually. His wife is related to the owner of Water Garden, hence the location. ![]() This little gem is not known by many. It called Yong Loong. It is located near Teo Seafood and on the other side facing the main road. Just a few steps from Teo Seafood. Nice food also here and fair price. He is the brother of Fujimaru Sea Safari. ![]() |
