Why u choose this model?
before u bought this have u tried onkyo, yamaha or denon?
*
It was the best bang for buck at the time. Same range as onkyo 608 and denon 1911. It was a toss between this and denon. Onkyo sounded unrefined. Tested all 3 before I got the pioneer plus it also had Malaysian warranty eventhough I got it from sg.

I hooked up the VSX520 to the eGear Miveo m/media player using HDMI.....no problem to play in the surround mode PROVIDED the audio is encoded for multi-channel audio format.

You need to provide the connection of the amp to be able to tell or at least the model.

Got it for 800 sg. However for pioneer there's not much difference compared to Malaysia to other brands. In fact denon n onkyo selling cheaper than pioneer. If u get their bundle more worthwhile ie. 1.4k with 5.1 speakers n bluray player.

they advertise the free things for installment payment only. if you calculate back the total that you're paying for the item, you're actually paying more for the price of the free items itself.

So, i finally got a vsx520 with infinity speakers.

have not setup yet coz need to clean up the living room.

quick question though, do you guys switched it on all the time coz ill be connecting the BD player, Astro, and TV and all the audio will going through the AVR.

so, any precautionary steps that i should take? I know that i should not cover the top with any cloth and have it locate at well-ventilated area.

any advice would be appreciated.

thank you in advance. biggrin.gif

hi all 820 users,

i just got the 820, i have 2 minor problems, appreciate if somebody can give some insights.

1) i manage to set the remote to control my toshiba lcd. if i need to use it to also control my astro b.yond decoder, which function should i set it to?

2) connected it to my dell studio hybrid via hdmi, can't seem to get 5.1 audio. from windows 7, it reporting that the device is not hdcp compliant (can't remember the message). everything works fine using optical.

thanks & regards

in my case...nope....
dvd (via RGB & digital audio cable) & media player (via hdmi) connected to the amp....so i must switch on the amp if playing item from these two...
For astro, since I don't use b.yond, I connect it from the decoder to the plasma, and then another connection from plasma (out) to amp....so for normal tv watching, i dont need to switch on the amp, unless certain programs that really need some kick for audio

I put everything through the amp. Since the macc auto tuning is there might as well use the amp for better sound. If put direct to tv you only get sound from the tv speakers.. No match for a good speaker setup even if using stereo sound.

Yup, agreed. But in my case, I'll have the option whether to switch on the amp or not since the amp will get the audio signal from the plasma audio-out port. I'll switch on the amp when watching HBO, but of coz the plasma stereo speaker is enough for my kids to watch Astro Ceria wink.gif

I take it fans of pioneer AVRs hang out here? I have a few questions to ask and hopefully you guys can help me with some of them. Looking at the vsx series due to the ipod integration and feature set.

1. Is the only difference between the vsx1020k and the vsx920k the number of hdmi inputs as in 6 opposed to 4? The reason i'm asking is that i can see myself running out of hdmi inputs - astro, ps3, 360, dvd/cd player, laptop possibly and god knows what else. So ultimately this decision will be based on budget which brings me to the next question.

2. What is a good price i can expect to pay for the vsx1020k and the vsx920k? Already got offered to buy the vsx1020k at RM2,500 - is this an ok deal?

3. Are there any good recommendations for floor standing front speakers at the RM2,500 or below range that would go well with the pioneer avrs? I have quite a medium to big living room (open plan house which shares the living room with dining and kitchen) and i will be using those speakers for gaming (I play a lot of rock band so music is quite important for me), tv and movies. Speakers that have audible speech at low volumes would be great as well due to upcoming lifestyle changes.

4. I will of course be using the AVR to power the speakers and pairing it with a 46" bravia (EX). According to auto calibration on rock band, the tv has audio lag of 80ms and video lag of about 45ms. Does running the video through the AVR add significantly to video lag and will there be an improvement on audio lag. (this question is more for the gamers out there)

5. Recommendations of retailers would be appreciated.

Sorry if any of these questions are frequently asked questions but after going through a few pages of these thread, it's quite difficult to sort out the kopitiam style chat from the genuinely useful info.
