hi guys, I am currently in the midst of trying to lose weight. I drink a lot of milk for the protein(up to 2 packs a day, have reduced it back to 1). Dropping milk completely out my diet is not really an option as the majority of the protein I take comes from milk. I was thinking of replacing it with soy. I know that soy protein is not as good as milk protein...

The soy milk we have in the market are sweetened. That means they add sugar.
And drinking A LOTTTTT of soy milk can increase your estrogen level --> man boobs. (This one, I am not sure. I'm just throwing this out so that you can go read more about it.)
Well, that's what I read in one of the issues in Men's Health. It mentioned about a guy with man boobs for drinking tonnes of commercial soy milk daily. But then again, that's the US, with their GM soy and different soy milk processing.

Yea, I have heard about the moobs thing too. However there are vegan bodybuilders who take soy, and they don't have moobs. Dunno whether want to take a risk or not QUOTE(iamyuanwu @ Oct 29 2009, 09:53 AM) The soy milk we have in the market are sweetened. That means they add sugar. By the way, even last time i buy those soy powder from the market, the carbs and protein ratio is crazy, is almost like 2:1 carbs: protein. Why dont u consume meat or eggs???

If you rely on the 36 measely grams of protein in a brick of milk as your main source of protein then you are under-proteinized. Take 3g/kg of BW!

Soy products contain ESTROGEN. Thats why you can see out there many man have man boobs. Its recomended by health and fitness experts to consumed 2 serving of soy products PER WEEK only. Even ladies, like me avoid soya bean. Your testosterone level will go down and estrogen level will go up.

HL has 50gm per pack. And I do take about 200gm of protein per day. BTW my weight is 115kg, so 3kg is too much. The reason why I take milk is bcos of convenience. Added on October 29, 2009, 5:58 pmYea, that could cause a problem. Maybe should take zinc to balance the effects of soy (zinc helps increase testosterone) QUOTE(tennis4life @ Oct 29 2009, 02:28 PM) Soy products contain ESTROGEN. i have no idea what made you think taking soya milk will make you slimmer and what is the reason you take 200g protein if you are not the bodybuilder
and if you want to lose fat, please take lesser milk.
there is alot better option.

If you want to lose fat, your body doesn't recognise if it's soya milk or cow milk, it only recognise how much calories you are taking. The more calories you are taking, the more fat you are going to build if you don't burn them away.
Protein is protein, which is just chains of amino acid. From where did you read about the protein in soya is not as good as milk's protein?

i remember darkie or pizza or someone else in this forum mentioning that its not possible to get moobs just by drinking soy milk, because the estrogen amounts in it are wayyy negligible.

Correct, you'll need to drink at least several gallons a day to notice the difference!

I've been taking soya milk regularly because of it's high protein content, it's better compared to teh tarik/milo ais in terms of sugar/carbs. If you think soy makes you to menstruate or have boobs, your loss. http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Does_soy_contain_estrogen

Buy unsweetened soy milk from the market, and you don't have to worry about sugar content.
