well, the thing is m15x itself also gaming notebook laugh.gif
and you get more performance from sager NP8690 with cheaper price tag than basic m15x smile.gif
although m15x should do fine,
the i7 version of studio xps 16 would be better choice than the basic m15x, cheaper and better spec, you can use the remaining budget to up the warranty to 3 years smile.gif

if you do choose m15x, do note that its weight 4kg.

Ouch .. 4 kg guess i really have to consider your suggestion smile.gif .. coz now my old one is about 2.8 ++ kg and it`s really inconvenient to bring doh.gif

like that, you can drop the sager as well smile.gif
well, normally 15'' is around that weight, studio xps 16 is around 2.8kg..
if not that particular about gpu power and only needed cpu power for your application usage, consider studio 15 with i7 or i5, it weighted at 2.5kg although its 15''
else, studio 14 with i5/i7, much lighter~

well, it should be manageable, so far no complaint about heat from the user that had bought 4740g laugh.gif

must say, acer has been improving their quality, especially with their gemstone and timeline series...
my acer still alive till now and still using it laugh.gif

Ferrari models are known to be hot..well, i still got one Acer Travelmate that is still running fine and the heat is manageable to me (well, almost 5 years now my Acer tongue.gif)

Acer products quality are improving by the day, as we can see from their Timeline, Gemstone & Aspire Series...rarely now we heard any major complain about Acer laptops smile.gif...

About 4740G, so far no users complain about the heat (meaning that it is manageable heat nod.gif)...so rest assure icon_idea.gif

Hi

I need to buy a laptop but not sure which brand is good.

1. Brand

Anything is ok except Acer

2. Budget.

RM2500 - RM3000

3. Specs.

500gb HDD
2GB RAM at least
Windows 7
HDMI port (if possible)

4. Size

13" or 14" monitor
Weight doesn't matter

5. Usage

30% Surf internet
40% downloads,
10% burn DVD
5% photo editing
10% normal use of MS word/excel
5% gaming

My friend who is working for Dell says that those who returned faulty laptops/monitor/etc under warranty will get a new one BUT they repair those faulty ones and resell as new. Staff also will get chance to buy repaired ones at very cheap price if they cannot sell them.
That is why I try not to buy Dell if possible...but very tempted by how nice they look lol with so many colors.

I have friends who recommended Toshiba but I checked the website, there are so many range and many different names under Toshiba. Not sure which is good.

Help!

if strictly toshiba, value with performance would be toshiba L510-S4318B (new model) or toshiba l510-s4314 (old model)

Its the bad perception of acer 3-4 years ago?.. LoL..

and the knowledge of OEM parts are still quite low for the newcomers of the mobile computers.. Thats why we in here must educate people that Brand dont matter except the part of the Service and Warranty.. But parts wise.. they are OEM and ODM smile.gif

My friend bought acer once, spoil the same day lol
But that was a few years ago ler..

Lenovo is china production company which bought over IBM Thinkpad rights, correct? And the tech support still from IBM but I read somewhere that it ends in 2009. Now dunno how is it like...

Anyway hopefully the laptop won't will remain in good condition forever and so, no need good support also alright...

Dunno where is the best place to buy in Penang..
