I am planing to get a HP Pavilion dv3-2111tx laptop..Is it a good laptop ?..any advice ?..or are there any other laptop to be recommend ?..my main use for the laptop is for online, assignments and occasionally gaming. Budget below then 3k

Define your GAMING pleasure...well,there are a lot of type of GAMING...hardcore (intense GC usage), mild (just need some mid/low end GC) or light (online gaming)

If you a light/mild gamer than Dv3 would be quite nice for you but if you a hardcore gamer than Dv3 is not a wise choice...maybe you can consider getting Dell Studio 15 instead (well, with your budget this is the best gaming laptop you can get)...want something that is much more cheaper than Asus K40Ab/K50Ab would be a good choice too....

*GC = Graphic Card

***just my 1 cent

Added on October 20, 2009, 2:00 pmanother suggestion would be BenQ S42 (comes with P8700 & 9600M GT)~price RM3250--->john-jay2 promo...market price = RM3399

Ahoy there mateys. (insert pirate accent)
In my quest for a new laptop, I need yer help.
Here are my requirements:
1. Brand - Not picky.
2. Budget - Rm 2500 or less
3. Specs - I'll be using it mostly for watchin movies, listenin to music and the occasional gaming. (RO, CS-Source, and depending on how good it is, I may purchase better games accordingly)
4. Size - Well, some spaciousness will be good since I'm gonna use it to watch movies and stuff.
Cheers!

Up your budget a bit and get Dell Studio 15...if want something cheaper than Asus K50Ab is a good choice also...

thanks for the info there bro  notworthy.gif
really open up my choice
actually i've already stated that this lappy is for my bro
he will be generally doin office work and surfin with it
i cant think of any special requirement that he required  whistling.gif
and yes, it would be a long list to do if u just take RM2.8k into consideration
that why i ask for recommendation = meaning, what u all knew/experienced that has a good review
thanks to u 2, now i have 2 choice to consider
1. Dell Studio 15
2. BenQ S42

anymore guys?
*
With your budget i guess none can beat both model that you already listed...

My choice would be S42...better in performance if compared to Dell...but Dell wins when it come to warranty icon_idea.gif (i'm not saying BenQ warranty is bad~its also thumbup.gif)

K40Ab uses HD4570 while G450 uses G105M...which K40Ab is better than G450..

so if i get the 3299 studio 15, it will be better then u80v?
*
Yup, its better than U80v...the main factor here is the warranty...with U80v, you can get 2 years International Warranty while with Dell Studio 15, its only Global Warranty unless you picked-up the 3 years warranty to make it Internationally nod.gif

How much weight is your lightweight?? 3KG is not lightweight i tell you, its more one the light-heavyweight side..

I guess Studio XPS 16 (1647) is the one you should go for....9 cell battery would go maybe around 4 hours ++ with least configuration (well, just assuming though because not really sure)

Added on January 19, 2010, 7:55 amAnyway, can give us your specific usage of the laptop...since you already mention about traveling a lot...might as well, consider one laptop with integrated graphic (which can save much more battery life)...but for sure its a big NO when you game also...Studio XPS 16 would be your best choice smile.gif

SU proc still loses to any T/P proc whether its higher clocked or not (which is SU is lowered clocked one laugh.gif)...

Those slim type laptop are more on battery life rather than performance...its quite rare to see those slim laptop that is on performance level smile.gif
