regarding the Audio thingy..

I've tried running dirt 2... with all low settings and native resolution... CPU usage was only around 75%.. GPU is around 80%.. with FRAPS reading 35 average

hmm.. does it means problem with the audio driver?

and about AMD overdrive.. how do you tweak the memory clock speed??
from everest.. the memory clock shows 666MHz.. i guess that optimum right?

im gonna try out windows audio driver and see how it goes..

I am gonna try

Added on January 6, 2010, 12:13 pmEDIT: @Najmods

how do i install the windows audio driver.. aiseh.. the computer keeps detecting the VIA driver..
*
Yes 667MHz is the correct speed, in OverDrive go to Performance Control and click on Memory. Tweak it, if you know what they are that is. There is tons of guide online which you can use, I gain quite a bit of performance and reduced loading time by maximising the bandwidth. I'll post the picture after testing the battery life

I just uninstall the VIA driver, and on the next restart it uses the stock Windows driver

EDIT: Done browsing battery life test, now it exceeded 2 hours of usage with dGPU mode. I set the reserved battery at 7% and it has been used for 2 hours 7 minutes and with 7% more battery its estimated it could last about 9 more minutes if I continue. So total battery life is 2 hours 16 minutes. Not bad thumbup.gif

Here is the memory tweak, remember its only for reference

hw is the performance of Athon64 X2 QL64 processor compare to the new turion x2 RM-75 processor? and is it worth it?
*
The people who using it don't post any benchmarks. I assume its just only slightly faster because of its 100MHz speed increase. Battery life could increase as well because of 3 power planes. Worth it? If you already using QL-64 I wouldn't lose my sleep at night because of it. But if you buy new one, its worth to hunt for it

Thnx for the reply, argh.. nw i m choosing between K40ab/UL30vt/ UL80vt.. I know there are different types of laptop with different price tag. ><
*
Its up to battery life, the UL uses Intel ULV which offers very long battery life. But this is k40/k50AB thread, if you want you could ask on laptop recomendation thread smile.gif

Latest ASUS driver should have HD3200 driver as well. Like 8tvt said, go to BIOS and select PowerXpress. Now I wanted to test with PowerXpress is selected to check for battery life with internal HD3200

@Sertek
It should have an internal microphone you could select, but I don't know why its not there

@Najmods.

even after uninstalling the driver.. and restarting.. still VIA driver is installed.. no idea how it got it.. i even deleted the driver from the computer.. the installation driver i mean..

hmm.. one weird thing i notice.. after the VIA driver installation.. CPU usage shoots up to 100% and doesnt go down.. had to restart..

i am unable to use the windows audio driver.. so i couldnt test out..

so far.. in dirt 2.. native resolution with all low settings.. i am getting average of 35 to 36 fps.. with memory overclocked to 570MHz..
CPU usage stays around 75% while GPU 80%...

well.. thats all i can provide.. does lowering the resolution help in utilising the GPU??

Added on January 6, 2010, 10:34 pmhmm najmods.. i cant understand anything in the overdrive thing.. so should i just follow ur settings?
*
Thats weird, when I uninstall the audio driver it automatically install Windows driver on the next restart

I don't know about DiRT2, even I haven't finished the first game because my cousin took my steering. Its normal for some games to be that way, don't bother with GPU usage too much. Just make sure that CPU usage is not bothered by any other thing when gaming to ensure smooth framerate

You could just copy what I do, but without knowing what that do is dangerous. Different module have different latency, even from the same brand. Basically lower bus clock (latency) is better but there is a limit on how low it could go. Be careful as it can make your system unstable as well

hmm... so much about overclocking.. aiseh.. not easy to become an advance user..

i guess i'd better let it stay as it is.. afraid to smoke this lappy..

hmm.. meaning.. on 75% CPU usage.. is it normal?? i get the smoothness with all settings set to low.. with overclocked GPU memory speed.
*
There is plenty of guide online, just Google for Memory Timing, if you want to know the specific just Google the name. Since the memory of stock is usually the same you could probably try it

Some game don't fully utilise the CPU, if its smooth then its fine

Guys...just posted how to use 4MB RAM on Win 7 32bit OS on our ASUS K40AB here:

Computer may be but as for laptop you need to be crazy to get it shutdown, as usually they could take a lot of heat to shut t down

QUOTE(Muhammad Syukri @ Jan 7 2010, 11:31 PM)
I'll post the benchmark later with my roomate lappy.
*
Thank you smile.gif You should test 3DMark06 and probably GTAIV as well,(as for GTA set everything to low and lowest resolution, I wanted to know the framerate) because these two games/banchmarks are CPU dependant, any changes in CPU would result in performance increase

Hi guys !

Otaiboz, update your bios with the lastest version it's stable and it doesn't cost anything, but i think you should send your laptop to warranty in order to be sure that's not a hardware issue.

Well, can anyone tell me the name of the internal microphone of the laptop? I can't manage to find it, i think it's because i use XP, a screen of the panel would be appreciate ! Thanks!
*
I don't use XP so I can't help you but is there any device that don't have any driver in device manager?

CULV based. 11.6" acers, timelines, or Asus UL series
*
Yep, I strongly suggest Acer 1810tz, my father bought one. I like it, small, lightweight but even this have HDMI and SPDIF out. Battery life is astounding, about 4-5 hours maybe more. But one thing I don't lke Acer is their plastic looks cheap, at least in k40/k50 it does looks cool despite its cheap tongue.gif

Hmm, I been thinking of buying Turion Ultra ZM-84, that's gonna boost some frame in games that are more CPU dependant like GTAIV. Plus the 3 power planes will ensure better battery life as well

Easy, check the device manager. If all the driver are properly installed there is no exclamation mark on them

Offtopic:
Damn, after seeing Alienware M11x I fell in love with them, its like a dream come true cheap Alienware with all its bell and whistle drool.gif.... The only problem is the screen only 11 inch and I think the price would reach 3k or even more sweat.gif

Anandtech says that it will cost about USD 1000 or less. Never expect alienware to launch laptop in this price range. Imagine Starbuks being invaded with aliens.

What happen to Turion Ultra ZM dream?  laugh.gif
*
Turion Ultra ZM-84 only costs about RM350 at eBay so its no problem buying that but I think a lot about upgrading this lappy, buying Turion Ultra + 320GB 7200rpm harddisk and low latency 800MHz DDR2 memory but still the major slowdown in games is not those things, its the HD4570 DDR2 memory doh.gif

Personally I think its not worth upgrading to Turion Ultra. I'm sorry to say this but arrandales had created a wide gap between even AMD best Turion Ultra.

Those on die switchable graphics are the real thing not like the buggy stuff we are having now.

Boy oh Boy the GT335 sound so delicious.
*
Yes the gap between Athlon and Turion weren't that big, I don't think there is much difference clock per clock. That is why I don't bother to upgrading or any sort, its better to buy whole new laptops

The major thing I droll about is of course the graphics card, if it does indeed have 72 stream processor that is amazing, and I think its a GT240 cutdown, I guessing somewhere around 28 texture units with 8 ROPs

But since Alienware has made up a whole new 'genre', which is a sub-notebook gaming laptop I expected other companies will follow this suite. Maybe we will see this more soon? Time will tell...

When i overclock my HD4570 at 700Mhz/600Mhz, in Colin Mcrae Dirt, i have badder results because by doing this, my CPU sometimes goes from 90-95% to 100% (80-85% when HD4570 not overclocked) and it creates a huge slowdown followed by a game speed increase, so it's less playable with HD4570 overclocked because of my f***ing RM-74 xD
*
Hmm, that is a good way of finding bottleneck in a system. I assume you use RivaTuner to monitor GPU load? I'll test on the game I play and see whether its GPU or CPU limited. If its CPU limited I might as well buy Turion Ultra, as this is not an ordinary Turion Ultra... brows.gif

Maybe he complain about screamyx slow.

Anyway I read that CCC 10.01 will support mobility cards if the laptop manufacturers allows it. (I guess that's a no from Asus).
Guess we will know in few days when its official.
*
Mobility modder is there if it doesn't. I still use the ASUS driver since I run PowerXpress mode. I could get 2 hours 30 minutes of surfing time if I set it to minimum brightness.

I plan to buy new laptop for more battery life, maybe with Intel SU ULV series CPU. The UL30XX looks good, so does Alienware M11x but its boils down to either bigger display or much faster graphics card tongue.gif

My sister will be using my k40 after this, so I revert everything to stock except for fanmods. Even with back closed it runs at cool 50C in idle smile.gif There is an intake hole at the top of the wireless card but because this hole indirectly provide airflow for the CPU HSF its rather ineffective even if you use notebook cooler

amd turion or C2D??

If you want to ask general question please do so in recommendation thread. I want to keep this thread clean. The answer is of course C2D, AMD CPU in mobile market is slow and only be used in budget notebook

The last unit in all IT has being taken by some one. Even the last display unit K50ab already taken by someone. There is another K40ab on display in a shop next to startec. That model is did not come with the new RM-75 processor. Price is 1899 without OS.

Ask around lowyat all also say no stock.
*
It seems like this model is indeed still a hot cake despite the introduction of newer laptops:D Or is it ASUS have phased out this model for newer models? hmm.gif

BTW guys, I found more tweaks for GTA IV to makes it smoothly, I run at 1024x768 with 16:9 aspect ratio, turn off reflection, shadow and texture quality to low (other setting medium for water quality and highest texture filter quality). View distance at 15, detail distance and vehicle density 25 while shadow density is 0. I got average of 20.12fps, which is quite smooth for me biggrin.gif

Nice! I really REALLY hope the new k42 would have at least GDDR3 memory for its HD 5470 or better still GDDR5. But as I've seen 1GB I supposed it would be GDDR3
