QUOTE
Scam victim seeing red over bank’s lack of urgency

I HAVE been a victim of an Internet scam. Upon realising an hour later that I had been fooled into paying US$1.88 because I was unable to find the website, I immediately made a call to Maybank.

I had to wait for more than 30 minutes before my call was answered. This was way past midnight. I was then redirected to the credit card department and during this time, I had to wait for another 10 to 15 minutes. A woman staff then informed me my card had been charged three times within an hour amounting to RM220.

This was the point where the frus tration began. First, I was advised to check with the merchant if they were fraudulent. Further to that, I was asked how I knew the website would use my card to do any unauthorised transactions, and how they could know my security pin.

The call centre then proceeded to tell me that all Maybank online transactions require a password, which I am not familiar with.

Finally I conceded to pay the abovementioned charges, as all I wanted was for my card to be cancelled to prevent further unauthorised transactions. Now here’s the cherry on top of the whole debacle. I couldn’t cancel my card because it was not lost and because I couldn’t prove that fraudulent charges had been made to my card.

I now had to tell her that I had just dropped my card in a drain and wanted to report a lost card. Five minutes later, her superior told me he had to charge me RM50 for losing my card.

Where is the comfort of security for credit card users after they suspect they had been duped? Plenty could happen between midnight and 8.30 in the morning.

What’s the purpose of a call centre if I still need to make a formal complaint at the nearest Maybank? Is this standard procedure?

D. SOON,
Kluang.

1 question here, 5x MR for Amex Gold CC promo is it applicable for Jusco departmental store? As I noticed the T&C says Jusco Supermarket
The 5x MR for AMEX Gold credit card for certain transactions is not a promotion. It is a permanent feature of the card.

Does purchase cinema tickets online thru tgv n gsc entitled for 5x MR as well?
They are not in the list. So i guess no. You will not get 5x MR.

Anyway, i didn't know TGV and GSC actually accept AMEX. Anyone can confirm this because i think they accept only VISA or Mastercard. Cathay Cineplexes is the only movie theatre in Malaysia that accepts AMEX.

Any news recently on what Amex is going to do to keep their members happy?

Just the ongoing maximum RM150 rebate per month per card member until early next year. But bear in mind they are giving out RM4 million only. Still better than nothing thumbup.gif

Amex gold as primary and MBB petronas as backup. However considering that I do not shop at petronas, i might switch to Sony Card since I'm more likely to purchase from Sony than petronas... but lets wait and see how CC taxation is going.
This is exactly my plan. Erm ... or was. I planned to apply for AMEX Gold credit card, AMEX Gold charge card and SONY VISA from Maybank next year once my HSBC VISA is 1-year-old but our brilliant government ruined it all vmad.gif

But is that Sony Card is that a gold card? I plan to switch from petronas to sony too.
The SONY VISA is just a regular credit card. Meaning it is a classic card. I certainly do not mind about that smile.gif

sad news...

just now checks with Singapore hotel, they prefer Visa & Master.
The big hotels in Singapore all accept AMEX such as Grand Hyatt, Meritus Mandarin, Sheraton Towers, Hilton, Crowne Plaza Changi, Swissôtel etc.

I thought Amex is widely accepted in Singapore, including all 4 and 5-star hotels.
Indeed they do. And American Express collaboration with Singapore Airlines also helps a lot.

QUOTE(vin_ann @ Nov 19 2009, 03:12 PM)
they do accept Amex, but prefer Visa & Master over Amex.
What if you insist to pay them in AMEX ? Are they going to charge you extra ?

I'm just wondering why and how Amex can give so much promotion compared with other cards. None of the cards I've been using a number of cards but Amex beats them all in terms of promotion. Isn't the US going through some kinda economic crisis now?
The high merchant charge can easily offset their losses in giving out better benefits to their cardholders. It is the same in the States. While acceptance in USA is also not as well received as VISA/Mastercard, American Express is actually the largest card issuer in the States by sales as all the super rich people rely mostly on American Express charge cards. But i guess we won't be there yet anytime soon.

for amex 15% cash rebate, i bought jusco voucher rm2k (Nov RM1k, Dec RM1k).
Are you certain the Jusco vouchers are entitled for 15% cash rebate ? There are T&C stated that purchases made in certain sections of Jaya Jusco won't be entitled for the 15% cash rebate.

When you buy Vouchers, transaction will be gone thru Jusco Department instead of Jusco Supermarket.  tongue.gif

btw anyone can confirm we cannot use m2u to pay bill online by amex cc?
only way to pay bill is @payment counter & pre-reg auto-billing?
What do you mean ? You mean you can't pay your AMEX by transferring money directly from your Maybank account via M2U ?

Anyone got their 15% rebate yet ?? Or know when it will be paid back?

I spent almost 1k in the selected shopping centres in early Nov but still have not seen any sign of the rebates. Checked through my MBB2U but don't see it yet too.

For my other credit cards , it usually shows in the online account transactions shortly after the purchases ......
It will only be credited into your account after February next year. It is one of their tricks so that majority of current AMEX cardholders will not cancel their cards by year end.
